Amazing value in a powerful intermediate set.
The Tama Superstar Hyper-Drive SL 6-Piece Shell Pack includes a 22" x 18" kick drum without tom mount, 10" x 6-1/2" and 12" x 7" rack toms, 14' x 12" and 16" x 14" floor toms, and a 14" x 5-1/2" snare drum, as well as tom adapters and clamps.
The Tama Superstar Hyper-Drive SL 6-Piece Shell Pack provides all the power, projection, and durability you expect from professional drum kit, but at a price that's much less than the traditional intermediate drum set. In sound, features looks and quality, Superstar breaks through the price barriers and delivers the goods—all the sound and all the attitude you ever dreamed of.
These Superstar SL shells are 100% birch. They are incredibly resonant and focused for stage use, and have a uniquely warm character for studio applications. The shallow shell depth makes for more head resonance and easier tuning. Precisely cut bearing edges bring out the great response and powerful resonance of these superbly crafted shells.
Star-Cast Mounting System
All Superstar rack toms are fitted with a Star-Cast Mounting System similar to Starclassic drums. This unique system offers total tom isolation and unhindered shell resonance without the adverse effect on tuning or complicated head changes found in less advanced suspension designs.
Die-cast hoops
Superstar shells are equipped with the same zinc die-cast hoops featured on Starclassic drums. Die-cast hoops not only make tuning easier and more consistent, they also provide crisp attack, clear and resonant highs, and much more powerful rim shots.
Sound Bridge high-tension lugs
The Sound Bridge high-tension, low-mass lug was specifically designed for Superstar. Sound Bridge's unique structure looks much like a traditional high-tension lug, but the body of the lug floats over the shell to minimize shell contact so the drum can resonate to its fullest. Sound Bridge still offers all the benefits of the traditional high-tensionlug—it offsets the tension of the batter-side and bottom-side heads, reduces stress on the shell, and provides greater protection to the drum shell during transport.
Power Craft drumheads
All Superstar's Power Craft drumheads ensure a great sound practically right out of the box. Batter-side heads are made of Mylar film for richer tone and greater durability. Ring mufflers on bass drumheads remove the need for extra internal muffling.

Tama has always been my favorite drum company, and they pulled it off yet again with the Superstar SL Hyperdrive. My first kit was a Swingstar and I later moved up to a Starclassic Birch. I had to sell the Starclassic for personal reasons and it's been six years since then that I have owned an acoustic kit. I needed a kit with tremendous value that had amazing sound and I found that with this kit. The look of the kit with the dark mocha fade is unbelievably gorgeous. It makes my Starclassic look like a Swingstar. If you buy this kit, you will instantly fall in love.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

The sound is bright and punchy. I'm going to try some new heads at some point to get more open ring. I really dig the birch sound. I matched my set up with Paiste 2002 cymbals and now I'm ready to gig again! Thanks Tama!
I just picked the six piece kit up in dark mocha fade at GC's memorial day weekend sale. I'm a drummer that sits low and likes to play drums that are as low and close to me as possible. My other kit is an older ludwig rocker kit from the 90's with very long toms. As much as I liked the sound, I could never feel like I was playing like I wanted to. With the Tama Hyperdrive kit, I finally feel comfortable! It really makes a difference to me. The drums sound so nice and bright too. the two small toms are quite loud so you don't have to worry about sacrificing loudness for how short they are. I set my drums up a lot differently then shown on the pictures. I only use the 10 inch tom in front, then the 12 is placed low as more of a floor tom. then I put the 16 inch floor next too it. I put the 14 inch floor tom on the left by my high hat. It really looks very cool but most of all, the comfort of having the drums so close gives you the feeling that they are really an extension of yourself. The quality is absolutely awesome. I love the Dark Mocha Fade finish. I've never seen such an attractive kit. All of the hardware is top notch. This kit really matches up to the best of them. I added a kick port to my 22 inch bass and it really hits some deep lows!
Tama really did it right including die cast hoops that are the same ones used with their star classic line. They tune easily and rim shots are really loud and pronounced. The black chrome is tasteful. I really thought I wanted regular chrome but when I saw it in person, I liked it a lot.
Hands down, this set is the best in class. Once again, die cast hoops don't come with budget sets. I picked this set because I really needed short toms. I'm not disappointed in the value and the quality.
