OVERVIEW

The SHŌGUN® series by Vic Firth features Japanese oak for powerful cut and stout durability.

Featuring a more rigid response than hickory, the dense Japanese white oak construction of Vic Firth's Shogun 5A sticks provides added weight and power for a full drum sound and strong rhythmic projection. The hardness of the wood tip in oak creates a brighter cymbal sound and provides excellent definition during intricate ride patterns. This unique wood also produces an incredible cross-stick tone that really cuts through.

The 5A stick size is ideal for versatile percussionists with styles ranging from orchestral to light rock. The 5B stick size is ideal for percussionists seeking mid to high volumes - namely in marching band or rock applications.

Most sticks are made of Hickory. This is only Oak Stick I have and use when song requires a lot of cross sticking, i.e. Sambas

Comments about Vic Firth Shogun Japanese White Oak:

The sticks felt great, nice balance, weight, and response. However one stick from the pair broke in under 2 hours of practice (not playing even close to full power). I have been using Vic Firth 5AN hickory sticks for several years and I do chew through them fairly fast, but I usually get several weeks of practice or a two shows. So I was dissapointed when these did not last one day. I wouldn't count these sticks out because of this one experience, but I can say that I will be switching to Promark shira kashi oak for my primary sticks.

Comments about Vic Firth Shogun Japanese White Oak:

I love Vic Firth! Been using them ever since I started band back in middle school. But prior to the Shögun series, I had to use Pro Marks japanese white oak sticks, which were also really nice, but never gave me a Vic feel. So as soon as these came out after NAMM, I rushed to get a pair of 5a and 5b and I'm really impressed! Super smooth finish! Almost feels like a Vic Firth Titan stick. Really durable as well: Don't worry about beating the heck out of your drums and riding your crash cymbals cause these sticks can take it! Love love love them! Vic doesn't disappoint!

Comments about Vic Firth Shogun Japanese White Oak:

Solid well matched sticks - oak is a little heavier in the hands than hickory but
these sticks will last a long time.

Comments about Vic Firth Shogun Japanese White Oak:

I've used hickory sticks for years; most recently the Vic Firth Buddy Rich Signature Sticks. After chewing through and breaking a few pairs recently I started to look for something else. I went to the local music shop looking for oak and tried every pair in the store. The SHOGUN 5B's were my favorite.

I've been playing them for a while now with no flaking or splitting like I used to get on the hickory's.

They play great on the pad also!
