- Thin Out-of-round Shells

Comments about Yamaha Rock Tour 3-piece Shell Pack:
High expectations for these Yamaha Drums were dashed as soon as I opened the box, removed the bass drum heads with the cardboard and saw the bass drum was at least half an inch out of round. The rim made it obvious as there was a large gap between it and the shell in one area. Then looking at how wafer thin all shells were, I called Musiciansfriend and they graciously set up a return. No need to unpack or examine further. No plans to ever order Yamaha Drums again. In my way of thinking; wafer thin shells with no reinforcing are not durrable.

Where to begin...
This Drum Kit is phenomenal!! Yamaha thought through every detail. Starting from the ground up, the Big Leaf Mahogany is warm, deep, and present on stage. The matte black is amazing to look at, and you can feel it. The wrap has a texture that you want to run your hand across!
The Kick - The spurs conveniently click into place, with markers around it for help in positioning, the lugs on the bass drum are rubberized where it touches the hoop, so no matter how low you tension the head, no metal rattles (Which is true of every metal aspect of this kit, no rattling whatsoever). This 22x18 bass drum commands any setting, and demands attention. The lack of a mount for toms does more for the quality of the sound of the bass drum than you would think, not mention forcing you to look like you know what you're doing. The exclusive Rock Tour logo is nothing if not appealing to the eye. The battleship chevron logos, though small, give it a little extra something. The Rack Tom - The 12x9 rack tom is nearly perfection. The YESS mounting system is the next best thing to suspension mounting. The mount is pulled away from the shell, minimizing contact, and what little contact there is is rubberized. The mount is positioned as to where the screws are on the nodal point of the drum, so as to choke the drum as little as possible. There is a felt pad on the shell right behind the mount, so the bar running through won't scratch the shell. The drum sustains beautifully, with warmth and welcomeness. I have a Remo ambassador on bottom and a Remo Black Suede Emperor on top. The badge is in two places, so that if you're set up with the 10 and 12, or the 12 and 13, you have a badge showing. Rack toms come in 10x7, 12x9 and 13x10.The Floor Tom - Deep, warm, and juicy. Resonates beautifully. It resonates forever; you can't seem to stop it. Comes in Yamaha's largest size, 16x14, with the smaller available. Overall, a beautiful kit, nearly perfect. Only things (and these are nit-picky) that I would change. An 8x5 tom, so my OCD will be happy with an 8, 10, 12, 14 and 16 setup. Maybe even an 18?No mounts on the toms; just that extra step!I wish there were a 24" kick choice. But that's just me!
This kist demands to be played, recorded and beheld. A fine job by a fine company. This is the reason that Yamaha is on top!
Where is the 6th star?
