Created in conjunction with Cindy Blackman.

Developed in conjunction with Cindy Blackman, the 22" K Zildjian Dark Medium Ride is designed to perform in rock and jazz settings with equal effectiveness. This cymbal features a large bell for excellent projection in rock settings, and special hammering and lathing to open up the cymbal for broad tonal complexities in jazz settings. Exclusive "pin" lathing enhances the crashability and gives the cymbal a distinct appearance reminiscent of 1960's era K Zildjians.

Comments about Zildjian 22" K Dark Medium Ride Cymbal:

If you're a drummer who enjoys playing multiple styles of music (sometimes in the same show), the last thing you want is to have to drag 10 different ride cymbals with you to the gig to change out between sets. Save yourself the money and the hassle and get a universal ride, a veritable chameleon of a cymbal that can fit into really any musical setting and support it wonderfully. An example of such a cymbal would be the highly underrated Zildjian 22" K Dark Medium Ride. Being a K, it has an inherently dark sound overall, but a very unique one to my ear. I'm a big fan of dark cymbals, but this one has a bright initial transient that quickly gives way to a dark and smoky, warm undertone that blends with and supports the music (as opposed to cutting through it like a light saber). The heavy use of hammering and pin lathing not only gives it a retro look, but adds a complexity to the wash and allows the cymbal to open up quickly and easily without sacrificing stick definition. Once you get up and riding, the edges wobble beautifully, making it very sensitive to your touch. If you crash on it, it explodes, but gets out of the way quickly so you don't have to wait 15 seconds to resume your ride pattern. If I was to describe the stick sound on this cymbal using a syllable, it would definitely be a "tah." I find it to sound very much like old 1960s era Ks and also Jeff Hamilton's Hammertone cymbals by Crescent.

So the dark characteristics obviously bode well with the jazz community, but that bright initial transient that I mentioned makes it fit well in other styles of music where you need a little bit more cut. On top of that, this ride has a VERY clear bell. It's not an ice cream truck, pingy bell like you'd find on a heavy ride, but a defined bell sound that has a little smoke and character to it. It's great for funky ride patterns or Latin music.

All in all, this is a great universal cymbal for the gigging drummer. Works well from jazz trios to big bands to anything in between! Highly recommended!

If only one, this is it

Comments about Zildjian 22" K Dark Medium Ride Cymbal:

I have a 22" A Custom Medium Ride and it's just too controlled, not loud enough and not enough wash for some applications, though it's a great all-round cymbal. I've had a 20" K Custom Medium Ride and loved it but not quite enough ping and volume. This cymbal has those qualities with the same great overall sound. So if I could only have one ride for all genres (except metal etc.), this would be it. Has the look and sound of a K I bought new in 1967 except shinier. Using it as a left-side ride and crash. Lovin' it. Got it for a song here "used" since it had a tiny burr on the edge I easily removed (otherwise new). Thanks

        Really great cymbal.

Comments about Zildjian 22" K Dark Medium Ride Cymbal:

This thing sounds awesome. Opens up really well to crash on. Pretty crisp bell that cuts through fine. Not too overpowering either, quite often with rides I've had a big difference in volume from crashing on a ride, then going to a crash, with this it blends really well. After reading FHA Drummer's review I'm a bit worried though! I doubt he'll read this but I'm wondering if he had much luck with his 3rd one.

I think I've found THE ONE

Comments about Zildjian 22" K Dark Medium Ride Cymbal:

After years of searching, I think I've finally found my soulmate. The one I want to spend the rest of my life with. My other half. You get the idea. This ride is the sweetest sounding cymbal I've ever heard, and one of the most versatile as well. It has the best balance of a semi-dark ping, a smoky "tah" sound, and a bright, loud bell. I'm using it in indie type rock/soul music and in a late-era Beatles cover band and it blends perfectly but speaks clearly. I could see this being at home in almost any style of music from fusion to country to blues to all styles of rock. It's probably a little heavy for straight ahead jazz, but it is a dark K so it still has that jazz voice. If you're like me and you're a (not too heavy) rock player who just can't help but covet K Zildjians, your search, like mine, may be over.

        a fluke?

        By Yap.

Comments about Zildjian 22" K Dark Medium Ride Cymbal:

Well, let's start with the sound. It sounds GREAT. Very dry sticking, with a defined pingy sound, but just enough wash to not disappear immediately. It has a pretty darn good bell- big enough to reach easily, and probably the most "defined" bell you'll find on a medium K ride. Sounds amazing as a crash, lots of sustain and easy to get moving. Compliments a Sabian 20" evolution ride VERY well. *** MY PROBLEM *** Is they seem to break really easily? I mainly crash, admittedly. I bought one in...November and broke it by January. Then broke the replacement in TWO weeks!! A fluke? I'm not an amateur I know how to hit a cymbal. I'm gonna give it ONE more shot. Just keep this in mind if you are a crasher- it's a little expensive to replace 4 times a year =/

        beautiful tamed beast

        By Palmtrio

        from Minneapolis, MN

Comments about Zildjian 22" K Dark Medium Ride Cymbal:

I've had the K Dark Medium for about 6 months and I can honestly say that this is the best sounding, most versatile, and overall most fantastic ride I have ever owned. It weighs in at 3085 grams, a little heavy for a 22" medium, but that heft makes for a clarity that sings out over the LOUD rock trio I play in. From edge to bell you can find different voices with a beautiful dark wash of undertones. At lower volumes the ping is sweet and clear and when the volume goes up the bell rings out above the white noise. Crash (and yes, you CAN crash it!) it and you get a wall of sound that never interferes with the other instruments. This is a rock ride with a sweet jazzy side, a jazz ride with a beast lying in wait.

        GREAT CYMBAL! HUGE BELL SOUND!!

Comments about Zildjian 22" K Dark Medium Ride Cymbal:

Great cymbal! Works great for just about any kind of music. Huge bell for rock. Works great as a crash because of overtones. A little expensive, but not a cymbal that you would replace in two years. Definitely an investment. It's kind of disappointing that it's only the 124th best selling Zildjian product.
