I've had a 21" and 22" in these A Custom Medium Rides now. In my opinion, you need to try these at least minimally somewhere (tapping in a store would even help). I think you need to know what sound you need for what you're playing so you can choose the right one for you. The 21" allows a player to find a clear, sharp bell with ease. The ride pitch is lower than the 20" but higher than the 22". For me the 22" is better because of the lower pitch and potential for greater volume if needed (for Jazz, Classic Rock & Blues-I'm an old guy, been playing a long time). It's not as easy to locate the clear, sharp bell-sound on the 22" but I don't need that often anyway and it is there once you find it. I used to think of A Customs as Rock cymbals but they are great all-round. When recorded, The 21" sounded almost just like a 20" K Custom Medium Ride I used to have except the K was barely darker. I used to play 60's Zildjians and I'll take these A Customs every time over that "much-desired vintage sound".

I got this ride with the A Custom cymbal pack. At first I thought it sounded great, probably because I was upgrading from ZBT's. After about a year and a half of playing with this ride, and hearing dozens of other ride cymbals, I decided that it just wasn't quite what I was looking for. I went to my local music store and tried some more expensive rides, and fell in love with the K Custom Dry Ride. Overall, though, this cymbal is good quality and sounds pretty nice.

Great all-purpose ride

Comments about Zildjian A Custom Medium Ride Cymbal:

I have both the 20" and 22". Both have just enough stick definition and wash to be excellent all-purpose rides. Short decay. Not as tinny-sounding as the A Series or as dark as the K. The 22" has a lower pitch but it's slightly greater wash and volume gets you heard where the higher pitch of the 20" accomplishes this. Either may be used for everything from jazz to classic rock. But you'll need more ping and volume for metal, etc. ... or, as so many seem to do nowadays, just thrash on a crash cymbal and call it playing ride.

Comments about Zildjian A Custom Medium Ride Cymbal:

I've had this cymbal for a few months. It sound great when crashing and it's pretty articulate to for like jazzy stuff. It's really loud too! The only thing that disappointed me was the bell on it. My zbt ride has a better bell but other than its great.

Great all around ride

Comments about Zildjian A Custom Medium Ride Cymbal:

I own a 21" medium ride and have owned a 22" as well. The 21" has a nicer ping, clearer bell, and an amazing crash sound. The 22" has a great wash along with the ride sound, but doesn't sound as good as a crash, the bell is a little dead, and the volume can be a bit out of control. Altogether the 21" is one of my favorite rides, great for louder music and even good for some low volume music.

Comments about Zildjian A Custom Medium Ride Cymbal:

This cymbal may work perfectly for you but it doesn't work for me. I got it as part of the A Custom Pack, which is still a good deal even though I don't like the ride. This cymbal is very high pitched and has long decay. For the first several weeks I kept trying it thinking, "I must be missing something", until I finally decided that I just don't like it. I've tried it with different kinds of sticks and with moongels and I couldn't find a setup I liked. In my opinion the Sabian AAX Stage Ride 20" fits much better with the A Custom Pack.

amazing ride.

Comments about Zildjian A Custom Medium Ride Cymbal:

I searched all around for a versatile and all around great sounding ride for a long time, and this was the best one I found. I own a 20 inch, and it is one of the best sounding cymbals I've ever played. I play lots of styles, and this sounds great for all of them. It also has an awesome bell that is really cutting and clean. It's a little pricey, but I recommend it strongly.

Great Cymbal! Well Worth the Money!

Comments about Zildjian A Custom Medium Ride Cymbal:

I got this cymbal (20") about 2 years ago and have loved it ever since. It has a great sound on the bell and everywhere else! I have even used it for crashes with great results. It excels at all types of music: punk, jazz, funk, rock, everything! It is a great cymbal and well worth the price. Of course, the size does make it a bit dangerous ... make sure you have that double braced boom or you could suffer a head wound... Great cymbal, highly recommended. A customs are THE best.

Not For Me

By The Truth-4XuAz

Comments about Zildjian A Custom Medium Ride Cymbal:

I have the 20" and it just sounds like crap. I didn't buy it separately though, it came with a cymbal pack. It's really just too loud and it's pitch is nothing good. It doesn't fit any style of music I play and definitely not a jazz one either. I don't like how it's so thick, and the bell (though it is loud) is very small and sometimes I miss it. I would not recommend this ride to anyone.

An awesome ride

By drummer-BEA4o

Comments about Zildjian A Custom Medium Ride Cymbal:

I got this ride like 4 months ago, and I'm really liking it. It's a very versatile cymbal, in that it has a lot of defined ping, but it's also got a certain amount of wash (which makes it great for crashing in loud/live situations). Just a word of warning for you though, if you are buying this because you heard it crashes very well, it does, but it is a very LOUD crash. Yes, it sounds good, but it is still a ride and it is going to be a really loud crash (which can be good often). I still recommend it, though.
