I have been a professional drummer for over 30 years and have found the perfect ride for my style and technique. I have played just about every make and model of ride cymbal and currently own about 30 or so high end cymbals. What stands out to me most is the feel of the cymbal allowing my technique to shine through making patterns and grooves swing like never before. Other players notice this cymbal and the deep grooves that can be brought out from the beautiful sticking sounds it produces. If you get the chance to play this cymbal in a band setting, that will be your true test of what it can do. The tone is low pitched along the bow and crashing is short dry and full with no overtones. The bell is small but cuts easily and this cymbal blends and compliments without ever being over bearing. Of all the drums and cymbals I own, this instrument truly inspires me and helps me play better grooves and have a lot of fun doing it. And that's what it's all about...really!

Zildjian K Custom 21" Special Dry Ride

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Special Dry Ride Cymbal:

The ride cymbal very much defines the personality of a drummer's playing. Every drummer has that quintessential ride sound that defines them and their playing style. For some, it's a heavy "ping" with lots of sustain and overtones. Others may prefer a lighter, crystaline "ting" with good stick definition, or maybe a direr, smoky "tah" with lots of wash. It all depends on a drummer's personal preference! I found that quintessential ride sound in the Zildjian K Custom 21" Special Dry Ride a few months ago, and I've been nothing but impressed by it so far. I have found that the Special Dry ride combines many of the above listed sounds into one very unique package. Through the implementaion of Zildjian's radical hammering and lathing techniques, a ride cymbal is produced that has a solid, clear stick definition at virtually ANY dynamic level, which I find to be a great characteristic for just about any genre of music, especially jazz. As is the case with most Zildjian K's, the Special Dry Ride has a drier, darker timbre with nice, mellow overtones that won't build up into an overpowering wash unless the cymbal is crashed. As it is a "dry" ride, the crash is fast and explosive, meaning it won't ring for eons after being struck. The bell offers a bright, cutting "ping" that would be well-suited for Latin, Funk, and Rock music. As a whole, I have found the Special Dry Ride to be a very versatile ride cymbal that's great for studio playing and live gigs, be them big or small. It cuts through just about anything with its uniquely clear stick definition and offers a beautifully dark, mellow overtone that will never overpower your drums or any other players. As it is a Zildjian K Custom, it isnt' cheap. Nonetheles, you get what you pay for - a phenomenal cymbal made by the people who defined and continue to define the instrument.

        Amazing ride!!!!

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Special Dry Ride Cymbal:

This ride is a beauty... Don't listen to this ZHawk417 guy below me... You have to realize that this ride is to be used in special situations... It's not meant to project over blaring guitars in a stadium rock setting... It's a great studio ride... Dry, but nice overtones, great medium short sustain. Awesome bell too.And as far as price, you have to realize that each cymbal is one of a kind and takes many hours of hand hammering, lathing and work put in by very experienced cymbal-smiths. You're paying for the best in the world. It's an investment. This cymbal will only get better with age. Trust me, it's a beautiful multi-purpose ride.

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Special Dry Ride Cymbal:

I received this cymbal as a Christmas present and I couldn't be happier. This cymbal has an amazing bell that has a bright/mellow ring. Its not overwhelming, in fact this cymbal isn't loud but provides the perfect equalization among your other cymbals. The only con first and foremost is the price. The price is honestly pretty ridiculous but it is worth it in the end.

        Great Ride

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Special Dry Ride Cymbal:

I recently purchased a small set compared to my current set-up and decided to keep it simple with the cymbals. I chose a 14 K Light set of Hi-Hats, a 20 K Custom Left Side Ride, and a 21 Special Dry Ride; I couldn't be happier. I had read and heard great reviews on the Special Dry, but was hesitant making the purchase expecting something really dry with sort of a "tink" sound, but fortunetly to my suprise, no tink, only great sound. This is a great, versatile, well-rounded cymbal. The bell sounds wonderful, as well as the ride (which when played around with has many sound abilites), and the crash... get out of here... she EXPLODES. Granted the cymbal is not very loud, it still fits perfect into every situation I have put it in. Get this cymbal, you won't be dissappointed.

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Special Dry Ride Cymbal:

Iv owned this ride for a year and a half now and its been an awesome addition to my kit. When i picked this ride i wanted something versatile and then some. This ride has been used for everything from blues rock and classic rock to metal. I'v also used it for jazz and some 40's swing in a musical that i played in.There is nice stick definition all the way up the shoulder and a crisp, but full bell sound. A thick wash can be formed about 2" from the edge or a moderately clear sound up further with a heavier stick.Over all, a great cymbal. But like any musical interment, it takes time to really know this cymbal.

        One of Big Z's BEST!

        By Monday317

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Special Dry Ride Cymbal:

Since 2004 or so, Zildjian has been making these RIGHT. This is a very dry, but musical cymbal, that has many "personalities", depending on where it is struck, and with what. With a typical jazz 7A/nylon stick, it is dry and classy played near the bell. Lay into it with one of those Rock Stix bats, and it will bellow quite nicely. Smack the edge with a 2B, and it will make the Oriental Crash of Doom fold its tent and go home. Probably the best setup you could ask for would be to have two of these, one for a ride, and one for a crash! Or just have one for use as a crash/ride, it's that versatile. prior to 2004, some of these sound like cheap, knock-off trash can lids, but now they are almost all sophisticated, versatile instruments. Don't like the look? Get it chrome plated if you want, just get it! ...get it?

        ONE CYMBAL THAT ROCKS!!

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Special Dry Ride Cymbal:

I know this is a jazz ride it is amazing when playing rock with this cymbal. Especially when playing YYZ because there are a lot of fast ride sections, and this cymbal produces loud clean sounds right when you hit the cymbal. If you are thinking whether to buy this cymbal or not don't hesitate because you will definitely get your moneys worth!
