What a great mic! I also own a Baby Bottle by Blue, which prompted me to take a chance on the Encore. Love the look, but also love the way it sounds. I purchased the 100 and have been using it for about a year for live performance. Our band has a full complement of SM58's, like most folks. The Blue gives my vocals a more rounded bottom end, and at the same time,a more lively overall sound than the SM58's. It has a very open top end and is quite smooth, but detailed. It performs very well live and have had no problems with feedback or other anomalies. I have let others use it, when doing sound for small gigs, and everyone liked the way it made them sound. It is offered at a great price point and competes easily with the SM58, if you are looking for a more lively articulate sound. I generally leave it on a stand, so cannot comment on handling noise. The construction is very sturdy. Its built like an old Buick, but looks like a Corvette. It has a truly been a joy using it and based on experience over a year, I'm considering adding an Encore 300 in the future.

Really a lovely mic with exceptional clarity and detail except on one major point. The output of this mic is a little weak to work with a loud band or in noisy surroundings. That means you have to crank the gain on your board which puts you at risk for feedback. I'm going to get a encore 200. The phantom power solves the problem. If you don't have phantom power, you should be able to use a stand-alone mic-pre. Some of the cheap ones have tubes which may be a plus for some. This mic is so responsive and detailed you could use it for a home studio if you don't expect too much.

Comments about Blue enCORE 100 Dynamic Vocal Microphone:

This enCORE 100 is comparable to the SM58, and XM8500. One definitely plus that has it standing out among these competitor mics is a greater vocal presence in the lower (baritone / bass) range. Built like a rock to withstand abuse.

Comments about Blue enCORE 100 Dynamic Vocal Microphone:

I bought these because I had read reviews that said they were both adequate and great. Plus they were 2 for 1 so I figure even if they weren't great, paying half price for a decent vocal mic is still a steal. A couple of weeks before, I bought the EnCore 100i instrument mics. These were pretty good. Brighter and hotter than an SM57, but not very well shock mounted. The EnCorr 100 is about the same as the 100i with the exception of the finish being glossier, and the output being a little less, so you will need more gain at the mixer.

I A/B'ed it with my Sennheiser E838 and it was similar in the air qualities, but again, a little more handling noise. IF Blue did a little better job with isolating the capsule, these mics would be stand outs.

But, for my purposes of micing up rock cover bands, I think they will work out just fine. Others have said they like the soft bag it comes with, but I don't like the design as it is just a flap that you have to squish the mic and adapter through. It's kind of a PITA! But overall I would recommend this mic to anyone looking for an alternative to the Sennheisers or the venerable SM58.

Comments about Blue enCORE 100 Dynamic Vocal Microphone:

Very detailed and quiet. Would be a great mic for comparatively quiet applications. I found it problematic in noisy rooms. Not enough output and when I pushed the gain it was likely to feedback compared to the Sure 58s, Senn e835s and AKG C3000. I also didn't seem to get the dynamic response I would have liked. The mic has great attributes but not for me. I gave it to a friend.

Comments about Blue enCORE 100 Dynamic Vocal Microphone:

I was tempted to only give this four stars but ultimately decided on 5 because the price and sound quality. Very nicely ballanced sound. A real step up from an SM58 for the exact same price. The carying bag is a bit of a joke. Durable enough but hard to get the mic in and out of. Really, we couldn't spring for a zipper or some velcro? The holder came with a loose pivot screw and the mic fell out first time out of the gate and hit my foot. That's when I knew I had a heavy hitter. Dang, that hurt. But it also pointed out another potential flaw. Don't you DARE try and put this thing in the holder at anything less than 90%, because the clip holds it loosely. On the other hand that makes it perfect for the lead singer who doesn't play an instrument and wants to remove it from the holder and put it back in on the fly. And the pictures don't do it justice. This thing is really pretty. Nice chrome basket. Love it, you just have to be aware of those couple of things. I thin I will eventually put one of these on the other two singers in the band. I can't wait to try this out on a snare drum or guitar cab in the studio. Super clarity for a hundred buck mic. And I proved right out of the box that it will take a beating. Wish I could say the same for my foot.

This is a good buy for the money.
The sound is clean, low self noise, low handling noise.
Frequency response is perfect for vocals, with a strong proximity effect.
It actually sounds better than the Encore 200 model - which is more expensive.
Construction is very solid and durable.
