OVERVIEW

Low-profile instrument mic.

The TSM411 is a compact and rugged dynamic microphone designed for high-impact sound sources such as snare, toms, congas, guitar and keyboard amps. The supercardioid pickup pattern rejects unwanted ambient sounds and focuses on the sound source directly in front of it for a cleaner mix. The microphone’s new duo-point suspension’s secret is an internal polymer floatation device decoupling the rare-earth assembly from the metal enclosure greatly reducing unwanted mechanical sounds from microphone stands. The included rubber mic clip provides additional isolation. Excellent for snare drum, mounted toms, floor toms, guitar cabinets, brass Instruments and more.

Comments about CAD TSM411 SuperCardioid Dynamic Microphone:

I got this mic when it was on sale for the SDOTD. I needed a workhorse instrument mic for my home studio and thought it might fit the bill; and the price that day was right!

Packaging was minimal; just a little white box with some bubble wrap, the mic and its stand mount, and a 1 page spec sheet from the manufacturer. It arrived in perfect condition, although the color of the mic is a bit darker in person compared to the pictures online. The darker color looks better anyway IMO.

The rubber holder/stand mount works well and i feel that I'll never have to worry that this mic will fall out of its clip... ever. The rubber part completely surrounds the mic so you have to remove the cable to put it on. In my situation, it will literally live on the stand full time, so this is a plus for me.

The mic itself is heavier and more solid feeling than I imagined. It doesn't feel cheap at all and seems like it will withstand years of earsplitting solos and whacks with drumsticks!

First thing I did was to audition the mic with my voice through my DSP and some headphones. First impression was good. My speech was loud, clear, and balanced sounding. I added a long delay so i could hear only the reproduction.

Later, I recorded an acoustic guitar track I've been itching to get down. Good results again in this application. I did have to boost the lows a little bit to get a balanced sound, but only a tiny bit. The mids and highs were very well defined with no EQing. After adding some effects (EQ, reverb, doubler, hint of chorus...) the track was starting to sound better that I expected!

Overall, I am pleasantly surprised with the performance of this mic! For SDOTD the price, it cant be beat! Even at normal price it would make a solid home studio mic and it would be great back up for live use. It is meant to be a drum mic, but I cannot comment about its performance in that context.

All I can say is "wow!" I replaced an old AKG mic I was using on my amp for live performance... this one is twice as loud and the tone crystal clear. Haven't tried it on other instruments, but on a guitar amp, I've verrrrry pleased!

Comments about CAD TSM411 SuperCardioid Dynamic Microphone:

To avoid the onstage clutter of an additional mic stand, I used a multi-clamp and flexible gooseneck to mount the mic to my bongo stand. The included rubber mic holder helps isolate the body from unwanted noise from the stand. The added gooseneck with a slight bend also helps. The bongos sound excellent through the PA. Would buy again

Comments about CAD TSM411 SuperCardioid Dynamic Microphone:

I bought one of these to use on a cajon--I place it on a short stand in front of the drum toward the top, along with a bass drum mic mounted inside. The combination of the two mics gives me a great sound. I didn't know what to expect, as I have a couple of other CADS that I would describe as cheaply made, but the reviews for this were good and the price was right so I took a chance. Turns out that this is a well-built, sturdy mic with a good sound for my purposes and a small footprint. The mount is especially well designed for keeping the mic right where you want it. I choose it over an SM57 for my live performances. After gigging with it regularly for a few months I like it enough that I just ordered a second one. I do agree with others that it would be nice if it came with a bag or case of some sort, but for this price I think I can find something to put it in.

Bought this one as an evaluation unit.
                    Plan on getting several more.
Can buy 4 for the cost of an sm57.
Put mic side by side to sm57.
                    Close enough for horseshoes.

These mics work great on drums. Small format means the drummer hits them less often. Well built and durable. Did a direct comparison with an SM57 on a guitar cab. Better highs and definition. A great value for the price.

good, low profile on your toms. I didn't need the more expensive condensers, and I didn't want a 57 on the toms = Too much length with mic and cable. Of course, I do like the 57 on the snare!
Seemed to give our sound man what he needed to eq my toms live. Used them with the Audix D-Vice clip, mounted on the rim. Pleased with the product.

This is the second of these CAD mics I've purchased. Excellent value for the price point. I prefer this mic over an SM57 for guitar cabs. SM57's are a standard, but because they are such a diverse mic and have a broader spectrum of tone, they require more EQ to dial in that punchy mid range on an electric guitar cabinet. I really like the smooth quality of this mic and it's also a little smaller up against the grill of an amp, so if you're in a tight space it helps give you a little more room.
