I have a Stagepass 400 portable PA and this mic took a great Strat sound and made it phenomenal. The most exciting part is the amount of depth and clear bass frequencies it brought into play. My PA does have the add-on bass cabinet but this mic is what is getting all that great sound into the PA for reproduction. To put it plainly, I hooked up my rig for the first time with this Sennheiser e609 Guitar Amp Mic and was astounded and could not stop playing. The only negative this mic had was that it was virtually impossible to fit the mic into the clip that came with it but that is no problem for most as the mic is designed to hang over the amp in front of the speaker.

I'm comparing this mic to a 57. I often use both for recording guitar, and mix them together. For distorted guitar, it seems to lack the balls that the 57 has. It does a better job than the 57 for the high end, which is good for clean sounds, but in my opinion it doesn't sound that good for the distorted sounds I've used it on. It's probably better as a live mic or maybe a live recording mic if you want to cut down on bleed.

I used an SM57 for years, and it was good. But, I recently bought the Sennheiser e609, and the frequency response seems so much broader and deeper. It gives my little Fender Blues Junior huge tone through the mains! Very pleased!

Comments about Sennheiser e609 SilverDynamic Guitar Microphone:

Much slimmer profile for placing in front of a cab or combo. The old SM57 sticks out so far with the cable attached. Our sound guy told me after one set he noticed a nice change in the sound of my amp. I use an AC30 so this mic helps smooth out the highs very nicely!

Comments about Sennheiser e609 SilverDynamic Guitar Microphone:

I haven't used this in a live situation but due to its design I believe it would be great for one. The sound comes threw very nicely. Compared to an sm-57 it is a little sharper but lacks in fullness I would say. When I record with this mic I have it paired with an sm-57 on my amp and it sounds great.
this is what I hear with my own ear and threw my experience.

Comments about Sennheiser e609 SilverDynamic Guitar Microphone:

Live and in the studio, I've been using some small clip on Sennhieser tom mics. I liked them because they easily clipped on the rim of the drum out of the way of the striking area. They had nice positioning options and worked fine. But I bought the E609's recently and although I've not used them live yet, in the studio, they improved the sound of the over all kit noticeably. They are an excellent instrument mic and the black side isolates very well. So depending on how you place it, it can really be sweet. For example, you have any mic on the snare then you put one of these E609's up vertically on hi hat cymbals close to but facing away from the snare and you get beautiful isolation from both instruments. They can be positioned flat above drums and still be out of the striking area. I recommend them for sure. Peace

Many reviews already on this mic. I'll cut to the chase. Found the sweet spot and marked it, hung this mic over the front of my cab, ( MARSHALL CLASS 5 ) and play.
Whatever tone you produce with your guitar/amp/effects, go to the board, just the way you hear them off your amp.
On stage or in studio, you cannot go wrong with this lightweight compact and durable mic.

Comments about Sennheiser e609 SilverDynamic Guitar Microphone:

I have been gigging regularly since the late '70s. For the last 20 years, I've been running sound from the stage for my 3 piece country band. I've never liked the sound of running through a direct box, and I don't like lugging around an additional mic stand for small gigs. Drooping a traditional mic across an amp does not provide an optimal sound. The E609 solves all of those problems. I just hang it over the front of the amp and get a great sound. I ran sound for a five piece band recently, and was very pleased with the tone and clarity of the guitar. I could hear every note. I wish I had bought this mic years ago.
