I bought this mic because of the cost. I was used to SM58 but needed a decent mic to replace a broken SM. I am very happy with it, it has a full sound and is similar to the SM in sound quality. I still prefer the SM overall but this is a great mic if you're tring to save a little money. The switch is ok but I've always associated on/off switches with cheap or non-professional mics. This mic is used with a professional karaoke system so we'll see how it holds up. I hope its as tough as the SM.
The quality is very good for an inexpensive mic.
I was very pleased with the value for the price.

I have the SM58 mic and purchased a pair of PG58's. The build quality comparing to the SM58 is night and day. The sound is a lot weaker also. With the Shure brand, I'm surprised they have reduced the quality of their product this much. I'm glad I was able to exchange for another pair of SM58s.

Comments about Shure PG58-XLR Dynamic Mic with XLR Cable:

I ordered three of the mic's. I belong to a gospel group. We go to churches when requested. Wanted to try out the mic's to see if we could get better sound than the one's we are currently using. The mic's did not satisfy any of us at all. The mic's we have are cheaper, but they sound twice as good as the PG58's. I sent them back and ordered three more of the cheaper, better sounding, mic's. The sound quality of the PG58's is bad. And you almost had to eat them for the mic's to pick up.

By far the best value out there for a mic, and the cable is decent too. If you are unsure whether or not to spend the extra $20-30 for a Shure, DO IT. any other mic in this price range (& then some) will break and/or sound like poo.

I bought this pack to replace a few cheap dynamic mics I got with an On-Stage Stand/Mic pack. Let me tell you, this is a great step up.This package is worth every penny. The mic is great, clear highs and lows and has a crisp sound. Feels very sturdy and well made. The cord is very strong as well, but I haven't put it to much use yet. The clip is a clip, can't really comment about much on that.It gets a 5 stars down the line from me. I will always buy Shure from now on, when it deals with mics!

great microphone for performance and recording

            By Tek_Knowledge

Comments about Shure PG58-XLR Dynamic Mic with XLR Cable:

The shure pg 58 dynamic microphone was the first "real microphone" that I owned for recording. (This was before I knew much about audio equipment). I plugged it into the computer with a set of adapters and recorded. At close range, the quality wasn't great, but not bad either. The internal "pop filter" wasn't really worth much. But from about 6 inches, no pops were detectable even without a wind screen, which I purchased much later. However, the internal "shock mount" was great, as I dropped this mic probably 3 times and no damage occured. Later, I bought an audio interface for this mic and was pleasantly surprised with the quality upgrade. I actaully preferred the sound of my pg 58 to the sound of my AKG 100, as it had a much fuller, albeit muddier sound. This was probably due just to the nature of dynamic microphones, rather than the quality of the mic itself. After a while, I finally my pg 58 to rest for recording, but won't hesitate to use it for performance. 3 years and its still holding up. It is a versatile mic and a must have for any performer (unless you have the SM58 of course).

I didn't want to spend that much so just got this mic. When I compared it to my sm58 I was surprised because it sounded great, it seems to be just as loud and have the same quality of sound! Great mic for the price and the accessories are nice too...

            Compared w/ SM58

            By Sprog

            from Vermont

Comments about Shure PG58-XLR Dynamic Mic with XLR Cable:

The build quality looks the same as the SM58. The PG is actually a tad heavier, for whatever that's worth. The published spec. sheets show this mic has inferior response in the lowest octaves compared to the SM58. (The SM58 is flatter down to 100Hz, then rolls off smoothly and fast.) And the SM58 has a smoother bloom in the upper frequencies. The cartridges are different. Probably, the SM58's is more carefully QC-ed. I hear them both all the time, and I can't hear the difference between them. I HAVE experienced the PG58 presenting feedback when used with a stage monitor in front, but I'm a hack so it was probably my fault. The cord is thinner than one would normally buy with a quality mic. Still, it comes with a cord for $40 less than SM58. A great buy.

this mic is really worth the money. It sounds great and is very sturdy. I've been jumping around on stage and had it go flying into the ground but it still hasn't got a dent in it and works fine. I have been very happy with it so far. I did alot of looking aorund to get a good mic for cheap and here is the best. great mic

            It's Pretty Good

            By Chris-D1jw8

Comments about Shure PG58-XLR Dynamic Mic with XLR Cable:

I don't own the mic, but I have performed with it. I, being an experienced vocalist was not too happy with it. It seemed to pick up a lot of ambient noise. I like the brand sure, but this mic is priced based on the quality. It is a good mic if you are a starting vocalist or are intending on using it for PA, but once you have become more accomplished, you realize every stray noise. Buy this mic if you are looking for a solid mic, but think about purchasing the SM-58. It has much better sound quality.
