OVERVIEW

One of the world's most popular vocal mics.

The Shure SM58 mic is legendary for its uncanny ability to withstand abuse that would destroy any other microphone. The Shure SM58 has not only helped to define the sound of rock vocals on stage, it's also been used as a hammer to build stages and gone on to perform flawlessly later at the gig. Using a club's house system? You'll be singing through an SM58. And in the studio? Daniel Lanois always uses the SM58 or Beta 58 on Bono's vocals.

The Shure SM58 mic is world-renowned for its distinctive upper-midrange presence peak that ensures an intelligible, lively sound. Perfectly fits a performer's hand, balanced for total comfort during long gigs. Frequency response is a smooth, vocal-tailored 50Hz-15kHz, and the price is a bargain considering its life expectancy.

FEATURES
  • Performance tested, industry standard
  • Uniform cardioid pick-up pattern for maximum gain before feedback and excellent rejection of off-axis sound
  • Tailored frequency response specifically shaped for vocals, with brightened midrange and bass roll off to control proximity effect
  • Advanced pneumatic shock mount system that minimizes transmission of mechanical noise and vibration
  • Steel-mesh grille and enamel-coated metal construction resist wear and abuse
  • Effective built in pop-filter reduces undesirable wind and breathe noise
  • Furnished with zippered storage bag and break-resistant stand adapter
  • Extremely durable under the heaviest use

I bought one of these SM 58 microphones, even though I don?t think they sound near as good as an EV N/D767a, Audix OM5 or even a Shure Beta 58a. I bought the SM58 because I?m sick and tired of getting flack from sound guys at a gig when I tell them I want to use my own microphone. I don?t like putting my mouth on a microphone that may have been used by someone that was sick with a cold or something. Anyway, I think all these sound guys are really used to the SM58 and have become too lazy to re-adust the settings on their sound board. It would just be sooooooooo much more work for them if they had tweak a knob. Poor guys. Because they are lazy, I had to buy a SM58. A microphone that sounds like a blanket is over it. The SM58 is way overrated. I don?t care how legendary it is considered. It does not sound as good as other microphones. Take your best microphone and put a heavy beach towel over it, if you want it to sound like an SM58.

          Comments about Shure SM58 Mic:

I had a couple Peavey Mics for about 30 years and they performed well for me. When I bought two new mics, I got the Seinheiser 845 mics. They sounded good, but I had to keep my mouth on the mics for the sound to come through. Then, I got a couple Shure SM58 mics based on suggestions from others. The Shure SM58 mics sound good and have a larger pickup range. This makes my voice come through the mix without yelling. This is a very good mic.

          Comments about Shure SM58 Mic:

I'm a professional singer using 6 different mics for performances. such as: sennheiser e835 evolution, beyerdynamictgx 580, peavey pvm 22,, rhode s1, but by far my 2 favorite mics are my SHURE SM58 and my SHURE BETA58 which clearly sound better to my hear and to all the sound engineers i've worked with for live and studio recordings.

            Comments about Shure SM58 Mic:

This mic is everything that you've come to expect it to be. I have a few others including a Sennheiser e835 and an AKG D5 and the SM58 fits somewhere between the two. Not as punchy as the D5 and not as warm as the e835, but a perfect reproduction of vocals somewhere between the two. It took me some time to get around to buying this, but I'm glad that I did as I now have another option when deciding on which vocal mic to use for any given song.

Still the best microphone out there. Used it in my younger days in bands and using it now in my older days in a band. One thing, you must re-eq it, do not use the EQ from your previous mic. This way you get the best of your SM58. Still the best!
