OVERVIEW

One of the world's most popular vocal mics.

The Shure SM58 mic is legendary for its uncanny ability to withstand abuse that would destroy any other microphone. The Shure SM58 has not only helped to define the sound of rock vocals on stage, it's also been used as a hammer to build stages and gone on to perform flawlessly later at the gig. Using a club's house system? You'll be singing through an SM58. And in the studio? Daniel Lanois always uses the SM58 or Beta 58 on Bono's vocals.

The Shure SM58 mic is world-renowned for its distinctive upper-midrange presence peak that ensures an intelligible, lively sound. Perfectly fits a performer's hand, balanced for total comfort during long gigs. Frequency response is a smooth, vocal-tailored 50Hz-15kHz, and the price is a bargain considering its life expectancy.

FEATURES
  • Performance tested, industry standard
  • Uniform cardioid pick-up pattern for maximum gain before feedback and excellent rejection of off-axis sound
  • Tailored frequency response specifically shaped for vocals, with brightened midrange and bass roll off to control proximity effect
  • Advanced pneumatic shock mount system that minimizes transmission of mechanical noise and vibration
  • Steel-mesh grille and enamel-coated metal construction resist wear and abuse
  • Effective built in pop-filter reduces undesirable wind and breathe noise
  • Furnished with zippered storage bag and break-resistant stand adapter
  • Extremely durable under the heaviest use

I bought one of these SM 58 microphones, even though I don?t think they sound near as good as an EV N/D767a, Audix OM5 or even a Shure Beta 58a. I bought the SM58 because I?m sick and tired of getting flack from sound guys at a gig when I tell them I want to use my own microphone. I don?t like putting my mouth on a microphone that may have been used by someone that was sick with a cold or something. Anyway, I think all these sound guys are really used to the SM58 and have become too lazy to re-adust the settings on their sound board. It would just be sooooooooo much more work for them if they had tweak a knob. Poor guys. Because they are lazy, I had to buy a SM58. A microphone that sounds like a blanket is over it. The SM58 is way overrated. I don?t care how legendary it is considered. It does not sound as good as other microphones. Take your best microphone and put a heavy beach towel over it, if you want it to sound like an SM58.

    Comments about Shure SM58 Mic:

I have used this mic for gaming, and video voice overs and it is very good. The price is very much worth it. I am using it in conjunction with a Beringer Xenyx Q502USB mixer. I did have to set tha gain a bit higher than expected but they are working well togather.

      Comments about Shure SM58 Mic:

I've been in 'rock' bands since 1965 (still am); had many mic's. This is the one I keep reverting back to, over those years.

      just can't beat them

      Comments about Shure SM58 Mic:

The SM58 is a great, all purpose mic. Its still a good idea to try a specific mic out for your own voice, but an SM58 is the "go to" all purpose mic for live purposes. Don't think there is a more durable mic anywhere and the tone is something you can always count on to be the same in all SM58's. Musician's Friend is consistantly great for getting a piece of gear out fast and very pleased with my purchase.

        Comments about Shure SM58 Mic:

I have been using the SM58 for 35 years. While there are some microphones that create a custom sound (at four times the price), nothing performs like old reliable. I work as a solo musician these days and carry two with me at all times. I have also used them in the studio as well but they shine in live performance.
