I've taken it out to 2 events in two weeks, an open mic and a jam session. Other players have given several nice comments on the new acquisition.
Electronics took a bit of fudging to get a good tone. I am using a small, battery powered amp (also new) and I found I had to turn the uke's tone to full bass and the amp's tone to full treble to get anything remotely pleasing. This could have as much to do with the amp as the uke. The pictures did little to prepare me for just how small the fingerboard really was, but over the course of a week, several chords which took some doing at first became second nature. I find that a few chords still will have one string pulled sharp or flat by the way my fingers have to squeeze in, but it's getting better. Without my realizing it, the whole instrument driftted down a half step over a few days. I'm wondering about the button for holding a strap. There doesn't seem to be a good place for the other end to attach. But the uke is so light, I only miss the support occasionally.
Very well made, and visually attractive as well as good sounding. Only the electronics' touchiness prevents me from giving it 10 out of 10 for quality.
I was looking at this model for well over a year. I finally jumped at the chance to save a little on a "gently used" item. I figured there was not much anyone could do to hurt an Ovation. But, even beyond my expectations, I couldn't find a scratch on it. It was shipped to me really fast also.

I am an elementary music teacher and I bought this ukulele to plug in and so I could model for my students. I was very disappointed with the poor attention to detail that is put into making this higher end uke (base on MSRP.)

Material was solid, but attention to detail was poor. I purchased the flat black finish which easily marked up. The sound hole decoration was a nice touch, but it looked like who ever made it did not even take the time to sand off the rough cuts.
The sound was weak. I have several ukeleles and by far this was the weakest sounding uke when played unplugged. When plugged in, the volume was probably 10% my other AE ukes.

I sent the first one back on exchange because of the weak plugged-in sound and string buzz on the 1st string due to bad nut.
I was very disappointed when the second one arrived and buzzed even worse. Same issues with the finish easily getting marks on it. Same poor workmanship on sound hole detailing. Same weak plugged in sound.
I had expected more from Applause.
I ended up return it for a full refund and going with something else.

Decent.

Comments about Applause UAE20 Acoustic-Electric Deluxe Soprano Ukulele:

I bought this about a year ago. My friends love it. It is fun to play and projects well. Sounds great with a thin pick. Electrically is isn't the best, which is a reason why I gave it a 4/5 in quality. The highest string (A string) doesn't get picked up well through the electronics. This is probably just the placing of the internals, and might not apply to all ukuleles. Also, the neck isn't really secure. Mine got sat on "gently," and the neck snapped right off. It was an easy fix, but it showed me how it was attached. After I used some wood glue and a bunch of clamps, it worked and sounded better than ever. Be warned, it is very small. Overall, pretty good uke. I would play before I purchase. Also, it doesn't record all that well. If you want a recording uke, purchase a tenor or concert size, which (in my experiences) project a lot better.

Good Value - Fun to play

By Ron-GMZpp

Comments about Applause UAE20 Acoustic-Electric Deluxe Soprano Ukulele:

I've been playing the guitar for 46 years, then one day, out of the blue, my wife buys me a ukulele. My first thought was "Oh well, I guess I have to learn how to play this thing as to not hurt her feelings." I quickly learned that the chord shapes are very similar to the guitar, so it didn't take long before I was playing a tune. Ok, so it was it the wrong key, but I didn't consider this a serious instrument and just wanted to play a song without to much effort.10 months later, I'm finding myself playing the ukulele way more than my guitars. It practically taken over all my playing time. This is a very fun instrument to play.Definitely, one of the best gifts my wife gave me.Oh, and I was wrong, this is a serious instrument.

Brilliant Ukulele

By JayRod

Comments about Applause UAE20 Acoustic-Electric Deluxe Soprano Ukulele:

My parents bought this ukulele for me for Christmas, they ordered it about a month before Christmas and it got here 6 days after it was paid for, and I live in Australia! The ukulele has a great sound with or with out amps & plugs in really well to my miniature amp & works equally as well with a bigger amplifier. Brilliant design, far better than in the pictures, the strings have a great sound, they slip out of tune but that's expected with the original strings. Simple, easy to use electronic controls. Sounds brilliant acoustically. All up a brilliant investment in a brilliant looking and awesome sounding ukulele.

Nice Ukulele

Comments about Applause UAE20 Acoustic-Electric Deluxe Soprano Ukulele:

This is a very nice ukulele. My friend bought me one and I liked it but it was a cheap one so I went searching for a new one. I found this one and thought " Hey this would be nice" so I order it and it arrives. The only problem I found out was that it doesn't stay in tune very long until you've used it for a while. It is also not very loud when you play it without an amp, which is a down side.

Great uke

Comments about Applause UAE20 Acoustic-Electric Deluxe Soprano Ukulele:

While I was in Hawaii I played many Soprano Ukes covering many price points. I found this Applause/Ovation Uke and it was the only one that was properly intonated. The one I purchased was a special edition with Koa wood for the top and palm trees instead of leafs for the inlays but it is the same Uke otherwise. The Koa wood may give it a better tone because mine has great tone unplugged. The neck has a great feel and the tuners are like fender vintage guitar tuners with plastic buttons and a slightly larger shaft diameter for the nylon strings. They work fine but could be damaged quite easily. The Uke came with a very cheep gig bag. I had a hard time finding a case that would fit this Uke because it is a liitle larger than most Soprano Ukes. I finally found a Lanikia soprano Ukulele hard case that was reported to fit the Applause Uke. I bought it and I am very happy to say the Lanikia case fits the Uke great!

Comments about Applause UAE20 Acoustic-Electric Deluxe Soprano Ukulele:

It's great for the price. While there might be some visible scrathing of the finish under the bridge, it dowsn't affect the performance of the instrument. Overall I am extremely happy with it.

Well-made and

By Mad Scientist

Comments about Applause UAE20 Acoustic-Electric Deluxe Soprano Ukulele:

I just purchased this and love it. When I first saw it, I thought the strings looked like fishing line, but after tuning it up, I decided not to re-string it. This uke is nothing like my solid koa soprano and I don't have an amp yet, but it has a sweeter and more treble, fun light-hearted sound. It has a unique look and appears to be well-made. It is exactly what I wanted and the price was right.

Comments about Applause UAE20 Acoustic-Electric Deluxe Soprano Ukulele:

This product is a well made little Uke. Intonation was spot on. I did have some issues. The "Black Stain" color version is not a stain at all as it appears in the images. The images appear to show a wood grain with a back stain on it. It is actually just a flat black paint on the face of the Uke. MF should update the images or description to avoid confusion. There are also specs of rust on tuners on the underside of the head stock. Perhaps my uke sat in a humid area for a while. I am disappointed in the rust and because this is not the coloration i expected. These issues aside, this uke is sturdy and sounds great.
