OVERVIEW

The Delta Frost's bluesy tone is all about heavy metal . . . as in stainless steel cover plates and phosphor bronze reeds.

Bushman was never satisfied with the life expectancy or responsiveness of the brass reeds used in other harmonicas. When metal experts told them that phosphor bronze offered greater hardness, tensile strength, elasticity, and toughness than brass, they ordered some and began cutting it into reeds for the Delta Frost. They knew they would be gaining durability with the phosphor bronze, but they had not counted on the wonderful, unique, gritty, fat tone that it produces.

With its whiskey smooth, stainless steel cover plates, and its plastic comb that's been milled and rounded for comfort, this instrument is up to the task of helping to keep the memory of Frank Frost alive. Most harmonicas have brass reeds, but the Delta Frost has longer-lasting, copper-colored, phosphor bronze reeds that not only provide hours of dependable play, but they produce a dirty, bluesy tone.

I have at least five Delta Frost blues harps, and they're ALL great harps. Very consistent quality and sound, great tone, easy to play, excellent reeds and very accurate tuning. I've been playing blues harp since the late 60's, and compared to the quality of the harmonicas available back then, there really is NO comparison. I also have several Lee Oscar harps, at least two of which have inconsistent reeds that right out of the box (brand new) were either dead or very close to it. That's never been the case with the Delta Frost harps. They're ALWAYS perfect, right out of the box. I also have a couple of SEYDEL Blues 1847 harps, and while not quite as loud, the Delta Blues harps compare very favorably at nearly 1/3 the cost. I can HIGHLY recommend the Delta Blues harps without hesitation. They sound awesome through my Shure Green Bullet too, bends are easy and the tone is just to die for.

I got one of these recently. The ads for this harp certainly talk a big game. I found it to be marginally less than a Special 20. DF Bushman sounds good tonally, and it is smooth on the mouth and lips, but clearly there is air leakage through holes 4-6. At least on the one I got. The seal is about what you get in a Big River Harp. I just got mine so I can't weigh the claims of longer lasting reeds, but we'll see. Nice harp, nothing better than what you get with a Special 20 or Lee Oskar.

Best Out-of-the-Box Harmonica!

By HarmonicaMan

from Columbus, Ohio

Comments about Bushman Delta Frost Harmonica:

The Delta Frost was designed using Bushman's exclusive reed set-up recipe that provides both durability AND responsiveness that exceeds every production harmonica I've ever tried. Suzuki sets the reeds too tightly on the Bluesmaster which makes it freeze-up under pressure - right when you need it to play, you get silence. It just can't respond under pressure like the DF without completely re-gapping its reeds. Playing hard since 1969, the DF designer wanted a harp that would not freeze-up when pushed hard, yet be responsive enough to go fast. The DF does all that and more. It's backed by the industry's only 30-Day-No-Blow-Out warranty, the Delta Frost is LOVED by every serious harmonica player who's ever tried one - just check other reviews and forums. Stainless Steel Cover Plates - Phosphor Bronze Reeds - all from a USA company who stands behind their instruments better than any other harmonica company on the planet. Beware of reviewers who have only "heard about it" and not OWNED IT!!!

Very well built and durable instrument !

Comments about Bushman Delta Frost Harmonica:

Like most guys blowin' harp for a couple of decades, I've tried them all. I used to be a big fan of wood comb harps because of the sound, but you used to have to do all kinds of voodoo to get them to seal up well, and keep it up to keep them sealed! This harp is so tight that I literally had to re-learn to play! I don't have to move near as much air through these harps as any wood comb and most plastic combed harps as well. I've been literally trying to destroy my key of "D" harp to see how long they will last, its been 8 months and it is still holding pitch. None of my other brands lasted more that 2 months of deliberate torture, must be something to that phosphor bronze after all.

Very Good Harp

Comments about Bushman Delta Frost Harmonica:

I own one or two of just about every kind of harp kicking around these days. The Bushman Delta Frost is a pro class harp out of the box. It is solid, well tuned, has a deep, fat tone and blows very easily. Easy bend. DF's are contract produced Suzuki Harpmasters. About the only difference I can tell is in the engraving on the covers. However, that makes no difference because I am big Suzuki fan. DF or Harpmaster, it's a great harp. You won't be disappointed.

Bushman Delta Frost Harmonica

By Smokin Joe

from Denver, CO

Comments about Bushman Delta Frost Harmonica:

I was blowing up Hohners at a rate of about 1 a month. I still have my first Bushman after a year. Still sounds great and I never get that un-expected "nothing" in the middle of a lead. Great harp.

the best diatonic made

By AL-ZXN_f

Comments about Bushman Delta Frost Harmonica:

These are the best harps - I've tried dozens of others, but once I tried the Delta Frost I will play nothing else! I'm sure you can buy some custom made for major dollars that maybe is better? These are the best sound (deep tone) that I have ever ran across, sound great right out of the box. I've been play harmonica for 15 years, been play Delta Frost for the last seven. They are the best.

Great Harp

Comments about Bushman Delta Frost Harmonica:

I'm just a beginner so I don't have a lot (other than a cheap hohner) to compare but this plays beautifully. I am hoping the phosphorus bronze reeds hold up to a beginner's punishment. I've only been playing it about a week or so but am already bending notes. Still having trouble always hitting some of the bent notes but I'm 100% sure it's me. I currently have a C harp and trying to decide if I should try other brands of harps (for comparison like I originally intended) or just stay with the Delta Frost. The only downside to this harp is trying to find one can be tricky.
