I'm a guitar player who wanted to get into banjo, so I bought this pack. Boy am I glad I did! I love it! At such a low price I wasn't sure what to expect as far as quality, but I trust the Fender name so I bought it. I'm no banjo expert, but I do know a quality instrument from a cheap one, and this is surprisingly well made for the price. It plays easy and sounds great, and the other things you get as part of the pack are a great bonus. I definitely recommend this!

The good:
I bought the FB-300 pack to play around with, It was on sale so it was a very good deal and is actually made pretty good and has a sound that is pretty decent once you get it set up. Easy to work on
The bad:
Wasn't set up to play at all! but watched a 30 min Utube setup video tightened all the loose hardware and head and its sounds really good.

Not Bad, Not Great

Comments about Fender FB 300 Banjo Pack:

The Fender FB300 pack is a great value for what it is. It is not a fancy banjo, and the materials are very basic, but it is a nice inexpensive way to get into playing. I would recommend this banjo to anyone who wants to start learning to play the banjo. If you like the instrument, upgrade, if you don't, at least you didn't invest too much.

Sweet banjo

Comments about Fender FB 300 Banjo Pack:

I wanted to learn banjo, and saw this. I thought since Fender made such great guitars, then this banjo was a no-brainer. When I got it, I was delighted. It's really easy to play, and the action and strings were the only things I needed to change. Great beginning banjo!

Fender FB 300 Banjo Pack

By wailingwailer

from Louisiana

Comments about Fender FB 300 Banjo Pack:

I bought this banjo knowing nothing about banjos and I thought that since it was a "value pack" which in reality they mean starter or beginner?s pack, that it would be best suited for me. The finger picks they sent were way too small for my fingers and the "how-to" material they sent mentioned a cd that was suppose to come with it which I did not have. I ended up sending it back and getting my money back because the nut on the 5th string was set way too low and bussed when it was plucked open and didn't when it was fretted. I brought it to music stores to see if I could get it repaired but most of them had no experience what so ever with banjos and funky 5th string nut. My advice is that you would be better off just spending your money on a cheaper banjo and then buy everything else you needed with all the left over cash.

Comments about Fender FB 300 Banjo Pack:

I'm not a banjo player, I play guitar, but I couldn't resist the price. There's a ton of value here! Banjo, gig bag, strings, picks, etc. everything a beginner needs (besides a banjo mute, I have neighbors).

I'm no expert but the instrument feels quality and it rings loud and crisp. You'll probably have to get it setup for you. I had to remove and file the nut down a bit and adjust the neck to get things where I wanted them, but now it's perfect. (Of course, don't do those things yourself unless you know what you're doing, let a pro do it.) For reference, the scale length is NOT the 27.4 inches it says on the website, it's 26.2 inches which is double the nut to 12th fret measurement. It intonates perfectly there. Setting it at 27+ will cause trouble!

Anyway, from a banjo novice, this thing is absolutely fantastic. The perfect first instrument for anyone and will no doubt me last for years. Now I just need to learn how to play it!

    Great Starter Kit!

Comments about Fender FB 300 Banjo Pack:

This kit has everything a beginner needs to get started in learning banjo! This kit comes with all the basic parts (banjo, gig bag, instruction book, strap, finger picks, tuner, and extra strings). The quality is surprisingly nice and the design is great. I knocked off one star because the first kit I received had a tuner peg break after only one week but Musician's Friend did a great job replacing it! Aside from that, the sound is strong and it's a great place to start learning.

ONE other important thing to note is that the banjo has to be set up! It comes with a wood piece (the bridge) that has to be set up between the strings and the banjo skin to produce any sound whatsoever. I didn't know that at first and there was no instruction on how to do that. Luckily I got it after looking it up but I was really disappointed at first thinking this was a bad buy all just because of that.

Got this as a deal of the day and was quite happy with my purchase. Great bang for the buck. Of course it needed some setup, but all the tools were included to do it. Just needed the internet for some reference and everything plays and sounds great.

Comments about Fender FB 300 Banjo Pack:

Easy to setup and get started. I would've skipped the starter kit and paid for only the banjo had it not been one of the closeout deals. The 'kit' supplies are of little use, there's better info available on the internet for beginning banjo than what is included. But all in all Not bad for the price though I doubt I'll ever be a 'great' banjo player. This one stays in tune fairly well and has a nice ringing banjo tone that has provided weeks of banjo fun so far! I'd recommend getting one.

Comments about Fender FB 300 Banjo Pack:

I ordered this banjo and it arrived on time. Upon opening the first one, the headstock popped off completely before I even got it out of the final foam sheeting it shipped in. The break was semi clean, truss was exposed. I was very disappointed, mostly for the nato/mahogany wood that was broken. I called them that evening and they were fast, courteous, and had one shipped out the next day. It arrived before the end of the week, in tact.

In terms of the actual banjo, it looks fantastic. The mahogany is beautiful, and although it has no mother of pear/abalone inlay anywhere, which I tend to love, the simplistic aesthetic is very nice. It has tortoise shell binding on the back body and along the neck, which you can't see in the pictures. The tuners are a semi-opaque pealoid plastic material, but the machines tune nicely and they seem sturdy for not being metal.

The bracket to the left of the tailpiece dropped out when I held the back of the banjo up. It was missing an end cap to keep it screwed on. I'm not sure if this is a factory mistake or just the way it is, but it doesn't seem right. All the others have one.

The accessories that came with the banjo pack are pretty good. The clip on tuner is very nice and I might buy some more for my other instruments. Easier to read than a pedal in my opinion. Comes with a nice philips/wrench tool, allen wrench, finger picks. The book is very limited. For some reason it has a Deering banjo in one of the diagrams which I thought was funny. It's a Fender book. Anyway, the only thing I didn't like was the strap. It's the classic Fender strap, but the shepherd hooks on it are annoying- metal on metal. This banjo has actual strap hooks so you don't have to use the brackets on the drum. But I'm definitely getting a Souldier Strap for this, I highly recommend them. Company out of Chicago that makes custom straps out of vintage materials and recycled seat belts. Their banjo straps have leather button tabs.

Comments about Fender FB 300 Banjo Pack:

I got this on a stupid deal of the day. I've been wanting a banjo to learn to play but they are rather expensive until this deal. Upon opening I was flabbergasted, it was beautiful. After reading the inclosed info and checking some info on the web, I finished the minor assembly and tuned this beast (it is heavy). I would never in my wildest dreams believe that it could be so loud. I'm not talking plugged in loud just LOUD. The tuning held well and the tone was great. I'ts a lot easier to play than I thought it would be and a lot more fun. And did I mention this thing is beautiful. It has everything you need to start playing now. Give it a go, oh and also it's a Fender.
