I bought my Fender fr-50 square neck resonator from a local music store as they weren't available in December on this site. It is a good learning tool, the split McCarta saddle is questionable as to whether it is wood. Found I needed to change the strings almost immediately toResonator strings with gauges 16, 18, 26, etc as the original strings tend to sag under a new student who is trying to do slides and rolls and using a heavy slide. Does sound very good though and have used it in public and it plays out good and has enough volume to be heard in the group. The finish is really great and durable as well. Square necks just seem to be built sturdier than the round necks. Get it you'll like it!
I have had my Fender FR-50 square neck for about two months so far and was unbelievably surprised at its overall fit and finish as well as the tonal quality. I started with a Steven slide and then moved to the Shubb GS-1 slide. I have been playing along with bluegrass channel and instandard tune it holds tune very well. No known issues with hardware or resonator etc. If you're looking for a workhorse for the money it is hard to beat for the price. Buy it, you'll like it!
I haave had this FR50 for awhile.....and it is a very nice playing guitar, been playing music since 1959 (First was a archtop converted)I did add a beard nut and saddle.....and EJ42 strings and it becomes a very nice delta blues box.....I think it is very nice for the money...Oh the finish is very good......
