I had been looking for a 6-string banjo to broaden some of my sounds in a group I play with. The Fender Rustler is fitting that purpose perfectly. It has good tone/sound and is very easy to play, The guitar is my main instrument and I am using the banjo about 10% of the time, so I really appreciate not having to learn a whole new instrument. I looked at several in this price range, and think this one has the best banjo sound out of all of them. I was really surprised at how beautiful the instrument is too....deep red finish with ivory colored binding. As for setup, I only had to put in and position the bridge. A quick internet search led to easy instructions. I was set up and playing in about 20 mins. At the sale price, it's an awesome deal and I am very pleased so far.

I'M NOT REALLY A BANJO PLAYER SO I BOUGHT THIS AND
A FIVE STRING OPEN BACK. THIS IS A NICE INSTRUMENT
BUT I LIKE THE 5 STRING BEETER. AFTER ALL IT'S A
REAL BANJO. I BOUGHT THIS ON SALE AND FOR THE PRICE I'M HAVING ALOT OF FUN WITH IT. BY THE WAY
THE 5 STRING IS A LOT LOUDER SO I JUST GOT BACK
FROM MY GUITAR TECH AND HE PUT ON A PICKUP.

Comments about Fender Rustler 6-String Banjo:

I have enjoyed playing this instrument. It was easy to set up (I have set up other banjos). The strings out of the box are close to a good action so I have not adjusted the neck yet. For my first group jam I grabbed my MUTE so that I would not over power the group and that worked well. (I have not removed the resonator as of yet, but it looks easy). The MUTE does silence the banjo tone a lot so I took it off when my turn came or if someone was using the mike. The instrument fits snuggly in the standard MF hard banjo case which is good for me. Get a nice banjo strap with any purchase 'cause this instrument is a lot easier to use with one. Strings seem to hold their tuning well. Appearance is excellent. I have found the best way for me to play chords is bare handed / without a pick. I can get a true banjo sound that way. Individual notes sound great with a pick.

Comments about Fender Rustler 6-String Banjo:

Unbelieveable price on musician's friend deal of the day. Quality instrument. Better Quality than Fender's 5-string or 4-string which have cast alumuninum pot. The six stringer has a wooden pot. My only negative comment is that the strings that come with the banjo need to be of a much lighter gauge. 9 or 10 fist string.

Comments about Fender Rustler 6-String Banjo:

I picked this up on a Stupid Deal but is worth every penny of the regular price. I'd been wanting a "Banjitar/Gitjo" for a long time just to have one to play with. I got a banjo many years ago and never really got it down and kinda gave up, would still like to learn one day but in the mean time, this is a fun alternative without the learning curve. The usual quality of Fender, well built, pretty wood, feels solid to me. You will need to set the bridge as it comes laid down so it does not break during shipping. But it is easy to get setup and the head did not even need any tightening. It's just like any banjo, it will not have the sustain that you are used to on a guitar, just expect that. So far I've not even tried to do any kind of rolling with my finger picks just been playing with a flat pick and trying to do some alternating string picking to keeps things moving, sounds much better then just trying to strum. I've always had great luck with Fender products and this is no exception, feels good, well built, just what I expected and got! Thank you Fender as always. Now I've got to start researching banjo pickups so I can plug it in and play with some different sounds from time to time with the band. If you are looking at this one and other brands, I would recommend this one without hesitation to you or any friends looking for one. Good luck, enjoy the new sound and most of all, have fun.
