Comments about Gold Tone Beard Signature Series Deluxe Resonator Guitar:

This is a good dobro except for the tuning keys and I find them to crack or break while tuning it. I'm talking about the button it's self and to make matters worse is no one is willing to help you get another one. This is a heads up if you are planing to buy one.

Comments about Gold Tone Beard Signature Series Deluxe Resonator Guitar:

I bought my Gold Tone PBS-D model from Musicians Friend about 8 months ago and I really love it. I think it sounds great- much better than other budget squareneck brands that I've tried. It is well-constructed and played great right out of the box. This is a Beard-licensed Chinese-made model that is cheaper than the American-made Paul Beard resonators, and for that difference, there may be a tiny sacrifice in the fit and finish details. My resonator guitar as received does have a very minor blemish in the upper fretboard, but it has absolutely no effect on the playability, especially since the fretboard is just for show on a squareneck anyway. I have compared it against higher-end USA Paul Beard models and there is not much difference in tone or sound quality (really, none to my ear, but it's possible that the USA ones are a little better). Also, Musicians Friend has been a great vendor to deal with and they have had great prices, quick and well-packed delivery, and personalized and fair attention to questions, with a satisfaction guarantee. I am very pleased with my purchase and have no hesitation in recommending this model, or in recommending Musicians Friend as the vendor. I have not tried the more basic, less fancy model. I liked the features and the look and feel of this "deluxe" model and was willing to pay extra for the fancier inlays, and the fancier woods, though I would not be surprised if the sound was just as good on the cheaper model.

Comments about Gold Tone Beard Signature Series Deluxe Resonator Guitar:

The guitar comes pretty well setup but be sure the screw in the center of the bridge is set properly, not loose or overly tightened. It comes with weak 12 gauge strings on it so order 16s if you're going to play bottleneck or lap style. The ease of playing and the overall tone will be much improved. Once properly strung the guitar sounds great for blues and country applications. Be patient with the guitar and yourself and it'll reward you with some great sounds at a descent price.

Comments about Gold Tone Beard Signature Series Deluxe Resonator Guitar:

I have never bought a guitar that straight out of the package impressed me. The Goldtone deluxe blew me away from the first strum. The workmanship is supreme and the finish was flawless. I have played handmade reso's that cost thousands and this guitar could hold it's own with any of them. Fantastic!

Comments about Gold Tone Beard Signature Series Deluxe Resonator Guitar:

In December, 2016 I purchased the Gold Tone PBS-M Mahogany square neck resonator guitar. It came with the resonator installed rotated, so the bridge was not perpendicular to the strings, and it looked rotated. Also the nut string slots were not properly made, so there was buzz on the bass string unless you put lots of pressure on the slide. (too deep a slot for the bass string). I returned the guitar and ordered the PBS-D as a replacement. (I found I liked the maple sound better than the mahogany for bluegrass.) Then the fun started. Musician's Friend sent me 2 PBS-Ds by mistake. The good news was that I could choose which one to keep, the bad news is that I am still trying to get the billing sorted out. Workmanship: both guitars had defects, and were not exactly identical. Both had nut issues with string slots. One was easily corrected,(one string was too high on the nut by a small amount, so it was easy to deepen the string slot a little. The other would need a new nut, as slots were too deep, and uneven depth. Also, the bridges were different heights, and one tail piece was not totally in line why the neck, so the strings did not cross the bridge in a symmetrical fashion. I am not sure how important that is for sound quality, but www setup info suggests they should be straight across the bridge. I picked the one with fewest workmanship errors and best sound, and sent the other back. It is suggested in another review that you send the guitar to Paul Beard for a professional setup, and I can see why this was suggested. In summary, these may be very good guitars, but I was disappointed in the workmanship, as it states that Paul Beard folks did the installation of key parts. ( Note: the shubb capo with a fret slot will not fit this model as the neck is too thick.)

Comments about Gold Tone Beard Signature Series Deluxe Resonator Guitar:

This model of Goldtone squareneck resonator is absolutely best in class. I own two (tuned differently). Incredible bell like tone, sweet wailing and LOUD. I have been playing lapsteel for 40+ years. The color of the front of the guitar on this MF site is horrible. You can get some idea of color by the photo of the back of the guitar on this site. Best photos are on Paul Beard's store site. I ordered my first Gold Tone PBSDeluxe blind. The second one I ordered a year later through Paul Beard's shop because he goes through them and sets them up and changes anything that is not perfect. Once the second one arrived and I heard it, I shipped my first one to across country to have them do a set-up and also install a Fishman Aura pick up like I did with the other. Well worth it, even if you buy it through MF.
