A solid, easily playable, low-tuned harp that's a sure performer for seasoned veterans.

The robust Hohner 590 Big River Harmonica is an attractive harp and a fine musical instrument for beginners. The 590 Big River's solid volume and easy playability also make it the choice of seasoned veterans and professionals, who recognize its strong, dependable performance and German quality at an affordable price. The Hohner Big River can be called one of the best-valued harmonicas on the market. It has the quality and life expectancy of Hohner's Special 20 and Marine Band harmonicas, yet it's more affordable. It also has the advantage of replaceable reed plates—a money-saving alternative to throwing away out-of-tune harmonicas.

Whether you're playing down-home melodies on your back porch or fronting a blues band, the 590 Big River harmonica will get the job done. This reliable workhorse offers Hohner's highest standard of German quality. Featuring a 10-hole, airtight, plastic body for increased volume, an open-ended cover for sound projection, and contoured covers that are comfortable to hold, the Hohner 590 Big River harp really delivers the sound you seek.

The low-tuning 590 Big River Harp offers one lower octave than standard-tuned harmonicas.

About MS-Series harmonicas:
The acronym 'MS' stands for Modular System, an integrated concept of Hohner's harmonica designs. MS-series harmonicas benefit from innovations that improve their playing characteristics and also significantly facilitate maintenance and handling. All MS-series parts (combs, reed plates, and covers) can be combined individually. Simple screw connections allow for easy assembly. This benefit offers players the possibility to adjust the instruments to their individual requirements. For example, some players prefer the body of one model and the cover plates of another, and so a "custom hybrid" is possible for the discerning player. Easy-to-install replacement reeds are available (see item: RP565 MS Replacement Reed Plates).

About Hohner:
Hohner is a family company founded in 1857 in Trossingen, Germany by Matthias Hohner. Hand-made quality and close attention to detail has set Hohner apart from the beginning. A top leading brand in harmonicas, Hohner harps are distributed worldwide. Hohner harmonicas are played on the street by buskers, in intimate nightclubs, on festival stages, and even in Carnegie Hall. Despite a diverse harmonica line used in music from country to classical genres, the most famous Hohner harmonicas are their simple, 10-hole diatonics used frequently by blues, rock, country, and folk musicians.

Comments about Hohner 590 Big River Harp Low Tuning MS-Series Harmonica:

I needed two harmonicas to complete my diatonic collection, an F and an F#. I don't play in these keys very often, playing mostly folk music and using a harmonica to accompany my acoustic guitar and vocals. I never cared for the higher pitched tuning of these two keys, so I decided to try these low-tuned Big Rivers. I had heard stories about reed clearance problems with low-tuned harps, but that is not the case with this model. I really love the bass timber that the lower notes produce, and I don't know why the Big Rivers are priced so much below Hohner's other models. I rather prefer the tone to the Blues Harp and the Marine Band, both of which are excellent in their own right. They are a welcomed addition to my harmonica box...

Comments about Hohner 590 Big River Harp Low Tuning MS-Series Harmonica:

Not happy with this purchase(key of F).Right out of the box can't get a sound from the 3 and 4 draw.I can understand the 3,this is common with many harps but there should not be a choke problem with the 4 draw hole,it's nearly impossible to get a note from it and even the 4 blow isn't that clear.I intend to send it back, not for a refund but to exchange for another one, maybe I just got "lemon". I will update my review if and when my request is honored.

I made a low E Big River Harp 18 months ago.

Comments about Hohner 590 Big River Harp Low Tuning MS-Series Harmonica:

I am so happy that this harp is being made. The one I have is an old Big River with a blown reed that I stuck some low E M.S.reeds in and I play it all of the time. My only other harp in low tuning is a Lee Oscar in low D and it isn't even close to what this one does. I can get more sound and effects as well as bends on draws and over blows... It has the same sound as it did when I first played it and is by far my favorite diatonic harp. Now that Hohner makes them I am going to order some.
