I use D'Addario baritone ukulele strings (nice sound, quality strings) and it does stay in tune but you have to play it for a bit because the strings naturally stretch until they are tightened on the peg. Like all stringed instruments you can take it to a professional and have the bridge filed down to where you might prefer it or pick up a file from your nearest department store. (That is what I did) I love this Uke, it plays great and is a wonderful, fun hobby.

I own a Johnson hollow body guitar and am very happy with it for the low price. I have a close friend who owns a Johnson ouprano uke and it is a fine instrument (for the price). I ordered this baritone based on these facts. I was VERY disappointed when it arrived. Ridiculous action.Horrible nut/fingerboard joint. Nut is glued off-center exposing raw wood of the lip on the headstock.Position dots are not in line or centered. They look like whoever installed them doesn't own a ruler or straight edge. The inlaid dots on the bridge are such a joke it would be much better without them. The holes are ovaled out such that there are gaps. The holes are not square with the bridge. The dots protrude up from the holes and at an angle. This instrument looks like it was built with total disregard for appearance, symmetry, and playability. Instruments like this are a total disservice to beginning students. The action is so high that it is virtually unplayable, even by experienced musicians. This will only serve to discourage anyone who would be in the market for an entry level instrument. Either I got a serious lemon, or the Johnson baritone ukes are worthless.NOTE: I didn't expect a gorgeous master crafted instrument for the price, but this is ridiculous. I knew enough to take the advertising claim of "a genuine professional uke for a student-model price" with a grain of salt, but I was sorely disappointed with the product when it arrived. Having played (and owned) other Johnson instruments, I expected better than this shoddy workmanship.

Cheap, and worth it!

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

Really cheap, in price and quality. Bad tuners, wont stay in tune. Always sound a little sour. Back came unglued immediately. What do I expect? Not much. If you want a uke worth playing, pay more. There are no good cheap baritones.

Nice Ukulele

By SCPI

This ukulele is awesome. Once the strings are stretched so they stay in tune, this is a very easy to play, great sounding instrument. I tune mine in open keys and play it finger style or across my lap with a dobro steel. The most fun you can have for so little money.

Pop!

Ask me a question

Bought my Uke in Feb of 04. Nice instrument, nice sound, nice price, but today I heard a "pop" from the wall where I have it hung with a String Swing holder. The bridge, held by two screws and glue(the glue applied over the "burnt orange" finish) had popped free from the body. Guess I can fix it myself but you'd think an instrument ought to at least last a year. It was not over tuned, in fact, I haven't played it for a while and I'm sure there was plenty of slack.

I bought this Uke just for fun. I was suprised at what a good quality instrument it was for the price. I am very pleased with its sound and ability to stay in tune. Its a great thing to travel with too.

Difficult to keep in Tune

Easy to play but sounds a little like a toy Uke. It requires constant retuning.

Great value

This instrument is one the best baritone ukulele deals out there. It has that warm, Hawaiian sound and decent playability. If you find it hard to play, play it more and you'll only get better. It's great for carrying around and playing whenever, plus it is rather durable so you needn't worry about its safety (within reason, of course). This is also a guitarist-friendly uke, sporting a D-G-B-E tuning, which is the tuning for the top four strings of a guitar.

This uke sounds great with a soundhole pickup or acoustic. I really enjoy playing it as a break from my guitar.

Beautiful Ukulele!

I love this Uke. It's such a beautiful instrument, and the price is unbelievable! The only complaint I have is that the bridge was set a bit high. I would recommend this ukulele to anyone, especially beginning students. I'm an advanced uke player and I have to say, this ukulele is worth every penny.
