Immerse yourself in the rich history of this fine instrument!

The radiused fretboard of the KM-250S was developed by Kentucky and mandolin virtuoso David Grisman to ease the wrist strain he was suffering from. Now, this feature that greatly enhances the instrument's playability is available at a lower price point. With its long-scale neck and an internal air chamber that nearly re-creates the F-5, the KM-250S has both the warm tone required for solo performance as well as the cutting power necessary for string band work. A-5 style body with solid spruce top and solid maple back and sides. Long-scale maple neck with truss rod and 15th fret joint just like the vintage original. Nickel-plated hardware. Adjustable, compensated, rosewood bridge. Mother-of-pearl peghead inlay.

Features

  • Solid, hand carved and graduated spruce top
  • Solid, hand carved and graduated flamed maple back and sides
  • Solid one-piece maple neck adjustable truss rod
  • Nitrocellulose lacquer finish available in sunburst or burgundy
  • Rosewood headstock overlay with Mother of Pearl Inlays
  • High quality, nickel-plated Gotoh tuners
  • Radiused Rosewood fingerboard, adjustable bridge, and bone nut

Comments about Kentucky KM-250 Artist A-Model Mandolin:

Being my first mando, I think it's really easy to play. Beside the fact that I had to setup the bridge myself and tweak it (out wasn't that easy but overall a good learning xp). The dark finish looks really good and in the picture you can't see the inlay underneath the name Kentucky but there is one and it looks great.

Mando upgrae

By Dan-Tz9qF

Comments about Kentucky KM-250 Artist A-Model Mandolin:

I recently purchased the Kentucky 250s after months of shoping around, on-line and at my local shops. I first picked up the 150s model and was impressed with the sound and feel of the instrument. I soon found the 250s which was more pleasing to my eye. This is the perfect upgrade from my first "potato bug" mando.

Very Underated

Comments about Kentucky KM-250 Artist A-Model Mandolin:

This was my first mandolin. Been playing it for about 2 years. Let's face it, when you buy one of these and you are playing with others, you want something loud. This instrument rings out like no other. Don't be fooled by the price either. I messed around with F-styles that were three times the price of this and none sounded as nice. If you are in the market for something under 1 grand, this is a great instrument. You do have to fool with setting up the bridge when you buy it, but just take it to a shop and let them do it.

Great beginner's mandolin

By Michael-from-NC

from Gibsonville, NC

Comments about Kentucky KM-250 Artist A-Model Mandolin:

This is my first mandolin, so I can only compare it to what I've heard and seen. This mandolin is not as loud as an f-model, but produces a good tone at mid levels. The action and intonation are good as any on my particular mandolin. I would feel proud to be on stage with it, it has the Kentucky name and the long scale neck and dark finish look great!

Very good value

By Bobby Frisco

from Long Beach, CA

Comments about Kentucky KM-250 Artist A-Model Mandolin:

For the price, it would be hard to beat this mandolin as far as value. I installed a Fishman M-100 pickup and it sounds great. It's made in Asia, so the quality isn't near the American counter parts. For instance, the lacquer used on the neck is so thin you can see and feel where the two parts are put together. Also, I ordered the unblemished one (more cash) and it still had a sizeable nick on the neck (very uncool). But overall I'm very happy with it considering it's so cheap. Plays very nice and the dark finish actually gives it a look of higher quality than it actually is.
