The Lanikai model skecgc
I have nothing bad I can say about this uke! The action is excellent all the way up the neck. The string height is consistent, and absolutely no buzzing. (wish I could say that about some of my guitars...)There are no dead spots on any of the strings, anywhere on the neck. (just running various scale up and down) This is my first uke- but I'm a long time guitar player- so I can tell a good instrument when I play it. The koa wood top looks amazing, and they did a great job on the abalone inlay. I had to plug it into my amp just to try it- it doesn't have an onboard eq, but the Fishman pick ups work as advertised. (it has volume and tone controls inside the sound hole) The sound projection acoustically was really what won me over- amazing sound from such a little thing. What finally sold me- if you've ever played nylon strings- they take awhile to get stretched enough to stay in tune for more then a few minuets. The tuners are very good quality on this, and they took their time to wind them right from the factory- so, so far it's stayed in tune all afternoon for me. I was looking at either the Lanikai line or the Ovation ukes, decided to go with Lanikai because it sounded acoustically better, and it is truly a beautiful instrument. You can buy cheaper ukes that are probably pretty good, but if you like to play quality stuff I don't think you'll be disappointed with this. Of course- I've only had it for a day, but been playing it all afternoon.
