Luna Guitars

Body design from the islands, with cool waves and shark teeth ornaments.

The Luna Guitars Pineapple Soprano Ukulele resonates with warm tone from a mahogany body, and gets its design from traditional Hawaiian body ornamentation and uke formats. Hawaiian tattoos were monochromatic black against brown skin. The pattern and layout was strongly geometric featuring many shapes and symbols that represent the natural island world. The tattoo on the Luna soprano ukulele is based on waves and shark teeth, which are also echoed as fret markers.

Very Disappointing..

| Review By: Thomas Rawding | 1 week, 3 days ago

Features:

The etched part on the front of the Uke, was not black as pictured.

Quality:

The top of the Uke toward the bridge was "sunken in". Also the bridge was titling forwards. What really shocked me was the neck for rough.. not even sanded.

Value:

This company did not care about this Uke.

Overall:

For a company to have issues like this, and then flat out "denying" that they have / had any QC issues, is wrong.

Great Uke for the Money

Features:

This Tatto Pineapple Soprano Ukulele is a great Uke for the price.  I have several high end Uke and I teach and I was afraid that I would accidentally damage one, so I bought this one for teaching.  It's a lot of fun to play and has a decent sound and very good intonation.  I had to send the 1st one back becuase the action was too low and it was buzzing, this one is perfect though no problems.

This is my first ukulele, and I love it! I would have given it a 10 if there wasn't a very small ding on the ukulele. The sound is warm and great. Not sure if the C and E strings sit a bit higher than the G and A strings- unless it's bc i dont know how to strum properly? Overall- fantastic! Highly recommended

little uke

| Review By: jsnclbrn33 | 5 months, 2 weeks ago

Features:

it has a couple cool features like the tattoo design . I also like the shape ( pineapple)

Quality:

it seems to be built ok as my 6 yr old dropped it on the floor first thing and it held up well . I looked through the sound hole and saw some pressboard for some of the bracing ...not a big deal being that it is just a little uke but over all quality is good for a lower end soprano

Value:

I like this uke but I would like to have paid a little less for it since it is the smallest of the sizes

Overall:

this is a good ululele for a beginner like myself . it is a bit difficult to hold unless you are a seasoned pro on these things

Nice Uke for a Beginner (like me...)

| Review By: Eric Haar | 5 months, 2 weeks ago

1 people out of 1 found this review helpful

Features:

The Luna Tattoo Pineapple is my first ukulele, but this model has all of the features that I would expect from one.  I like the sound of the mahogany body and the geared tuners, which have nice pearloid buttons, hold tune well so far.  Inlay work is nicely done and the laser engraving is cool.  Comes with a nice gig bag (wife thought it was very cute) a pitch pipe and a chart with a few chords.  Everything you need to get started, which is thoughtful in my opinion.

Quality:

Overall, construction is very good.  The body is well made and finished and the intonation is mostly accurate according to my clip on tuner.  Near the high end of the neck, some of the frets don't ring out quite as well as others, but I haven't found any true "dead" spots.

The only construction flaws I noticed were a tiny bit of glue seepage on the E side of the neck joint, one fret slot that's cut deeper than the fret itself, and the dress job on the fret ends is a little rough, but for the price point, I think the construction is pretty good.

Value:

As I've noted, I'm not extremely knowledgeable about ukes, but feel like this is a "good buy" at the price I paid.

Overall:

I wanted a ukulele and read through all the reviews on Musician's Friend and this particular model, the Luna Tattoo Pineapple, seemed to have the best balance of good reviews along with the features I wanted (soprano, pineapple body, not totally plain Jane) in the price range I was interested in.

It's a good sounding instrument, it sounds to me like I think a ukulele should and plays nicely.  I have no trouble chording comfortably on the neck. The mahogany body has a nice grain pattern and I like the laser engraved "tattoo" finish and "shark tooth" (triangle) inlays.  It's easy to hold and so light you'll find yourself walking around with it cradled under your arm without even thinking about it.

I'm not an expert on ukuleles by any means, but I'm definitely satisfied with this purchase.  I've picked up several songs already and my kids love it.  The fact that it's quieter  than even my acoustic guitar makes it good for sing-alongs with the kiddos as it doesn't overpower them.
