      Beautiful Banjo

Comments about Recording King RK-R80 Professional Banjo:

The only problem I found with this banjo upon receiving it were a few adjustments that were needed but overall it was flawless.
Aesthetically, this banjo is amazing. Love the inlays, coloring, and sheen of this instrument. It is truly a piece of art. As far as tone and all that - I don't have much experience with other banjos to speak to that but it sounds pretty god damn good to me. This banjo will be better than its player for quite some while.
I did some research and found dozens of reviews calling this banjo the best in its price range and even better than some banjos costing much more. After getting this banjo in my hands I must say that it does feel like a pretty good steal and have no regrets in my purchase.

      Good Solid Performance

Comments about Recording King RK-R80 Professional Banjo:

I did a lot of research before choosing this banjo. I was not disappointed. The appearance is amazing. I could not find any flaws at all. As far as setup, it may be OK for a lot of people but I am picky so did some adjustments. The action could not be made as low as I wanted by adjusting the Coordination Rods. I ended up removing the neck and shimming it slightly and upon reassembly it was perfect. I don't recommend doing this yourself if you have never done it. After an hour or so of adjustments I would compare it to a Gibson Mastertone, actually better than some I have played, it has the sound. Very nice loud, clear, professional bark. I took a little bit off for quality because it needed a bit more set-up than I would have liked but over-all it is a stunning piece of work.

      Great Little Banjo

      By Anonymous

      from Undisclosed

Comments about Recording King RK-R80 Professional Banjo:

I have only been on banjo for about three years but have played a variety of instruments including a '29 Mastertone. I had a Deering Boston that served me well but for issues I wo'nt mention here decided to go with the RK-80 and I'm glad I did. I have rather short arms and small fingers and the neck size and length of the RK-80 just fit me great. I bought mine at a local muic store. The hardshell case that it comes in is nice with a lot of features but lacks a little on quality but who plays the case anyway? The advertising does not tel you it is made in China and does not tell you the "natural" finish is georgeous and very well done high gloss. The only drawback to the features that takes some getting used to is the fact that the neck and the fretboard both are trimmed with binding thus giving you a double dose of blinding white binding on the neck. The neck is very nice and is comparable in diameter to an RB-800 but is a little shorter than an RB-250. I find this neck size to be a great plus. When I took the resonator off to set the coordinator rods for my heavier guage strings I found the rim and tone ring to be exactly as described. Mine came with good strings but I prefer a little larger strings with a 23 on the bass D for a little more pop. After tightening the head just a little and doing some minor adjustment I found myself sitting behind a much better banjo than I thought I had bought. It is definately a much better instrument than I am player. Is the model name "Professional" a stretch for this instrument? I'll find out tomorrow night at my first public performance with the instrument. The few friends of mine that have heard the RK-80 were wuick to tell me how much they liked the tone. It is everything it is advertised to be and more. BTW I really appreciate the nice size fretwire and the fifth string tuner is smooth as silk. Had to snug up the planetary tuners just a little. The only reason I gave a 4.5 on the features is all the white binding on the neck takes a little getting used too. I can't put this thing down. Now if I only knew how to play it.:)
