Comments about Riptide UT-5 Tenor Ukulele:
I'm having lots of fun learning to play the ukulele. I love the tone of the RipTide. I hope that my next Uke purchase will be an instrument Made in the U.S.A. though.
Comments about Riptide UT-5 Tenor Ukulele:
For a tenor in this price range, the Rip Tide UT-5 is decent enough. Its voice makes the setup worth the effort. If you are an intermediate player, it will need some setup work. They all need little tweeks.
Aquila Nylgut strings are a plus but strings are cheap. The big hole is a minus as are the low frets.
The exclusive Dual Port System is a gimmick that contributes nothing to the overall sound. The uke has that mellow f-hole voice and projects well -- not because of the extra hole. Credit the Aquila Nylgut strings and a well-made laminate sound board system. That's the sound I was hoping for.
If you are looking to open the box, tune and play this uke might not make you happy. The action was very high out of the box (4.6mm at 12th fret) and the frets are low (.38mm). Lower the action and it is a fast neck for finger-pickers.After a little saddle shaving, it works well, even though the low frets demand extra effort and exact finger placement for barre chords. The ends of the frets were a bit rough. Emory board fix. The uke is stained but not finished, which I appreciate. A heavy finish could dampen the already anemic projection. The unsealed sound board will pick up skin oil, coffee, spittle or anything else that drips on it. Not a problem to a slob like me but some folks care about that stuff. Oh, that big hole directly under my chin needs a screen over it. It won't let one brownie crumb hit the floor.
