I have been playing guitar for 30+ years and decided to give banjo a try---I was very impressed with the build quality at this price level---I will probably upgrade the tuners at some point, but that is not unusual for me---most of my guitars have been modified in some way, and the stock tuners are usually the first thing to go. This is a great instrument---don't let the low price fool you!

The setup on this banjo was really not good. Strings were incredibly high off of the fretboard. Tuners were barely held in with screws falling out (literally fell out while tuning the first time), cracked bridge, and very loose head. Couldn't really believe that MusiciansFriend would actually let that out of their factory in the condition they did. I actually assumed it was a used instrument until I called to check. Could not COULD NOT hold a tune. Set it up and still couldn't hold a tune. Neck was strong, body was not. Maybe save your money for the low end fender or washburn instead.

Comments about Rogue B30 Deluxe 30-Bracket Banjo with Aluminum Rim:

I feel like the B30 is a great value. I bought this knowing I'd be taking the resonator off immediately. I also swapped out to Ernie Ball frailing strings and lined the inside of the rim with cork. (Duck brand cork tape. Look for it in the craft aisle at WM.) Though it's my first banjo, I'm very familiar with what one should sound like, and this one doesn't disappoint in tone and sustain. No buzz or rattles to chase down. The tuners are great, and all five are geared. The aluminum rim is cheap. It is cast and has a good bit of crazing on the inside. Machined would have been so much nicer, but also would prohibit the low price. The action is good and I can practice for a half hour without fatigue or pain in my fingertips. This instrument is very inexpensive, but I can't bring myself to call it "cheap", overall. I think with proper care and a couple optional upgrades, this could be your porch favorite or your amateur string band goto. When I do get a nicer model, I'll have no qualms in giving this one away to a friend who wants to learn. When you receive yours, you must set your bridge and tighten your neck. I only mention it because I see folks commenting that it's a bad thing. This type of item simply cannot be trusted to be handled by a carrier with that kind of tension already in place.

Best deal for a quality banjo I've ever seen

Comments about Rogue B30 Deluxe 30-Bracket Banjo with Aluminum Rim:

Impressive! Could not be more satisfied with the quality of this instrument at a price that would have been unheard of or considered miraculous a few years ago. This is a sophisticated, fine-quality instrument with a nice tone. The high-polished wood and binding is beautiful. The Remo head is above and beyond what I would have expected at this price. I'm scratching my head after reading some negative reviews for instrument. It is easily as well made and designed as some banjos two or three times the price. There were no loose or missing parts. No quality issues whatsoever. Mine was shipped, as would be expected and prudent, without the bridge set up or the strings in tune. So, as much as this is a fantastic instrument for a beginner and well-beyond, you need to know or learn the basics of setting up and maintaining a banjo, something that is technically a bit more sophisticated than what most people know of from playing a guitar. If you try to set up this banjo without any instruction and are inept at it, you could, as you could with any banjo, break a string or the bridge, or more. But if you are otherwise prudent and have common sense, no problem. I was so impressed with the price and quality of this resonator banjo I subsequently ordered Rogue's open back (quieter) banjo for playing different styles and different venues. The Musician's Friend hardshell case for banjo is a great match. Nice resonator banjo and hardshell case for less than two Benjamins? That's what I got and I'm stoked enough to be bragging about it here!

Great first banjo or just if you don't want to spend a lot. Got the open box one and I'm pretty sure it was just like a brand new one.

Comments about Rogue B30 Deluxe 30-Bracket Banjo with Aluminum Rim:

It exceeded my expectations for a "low end" banjo. It would have been nice to have some type of instruction sheet included, as a novice, I took it to a guitar shop for set up and tuning. For those doubters and skeptics, it is what it is, a great starter banjo.

Comments about Rogue B30 Deluxe 30-Bracket Banjo with Aluminum Rim:

Got this as a new year's resolution to learn the banjo. There's tons of learning material on the internet so it's really easy to learn some basic rolls and chords to get started for some basic progressions. My one surprise was that the bridge wasn't installed. I did some research and found out this is to make sure it doesn't break in the shipping process. Some additional quick research, and a ruler will help you measure from the proper frets to where to place it for the best tone. I didn't remember reading that on any comments so I thought I'd add it. The tone is great and it's more than I expected for the price. Definitely worth the money if you want to learn/ play another instrument and want a backup sound on anything you record. Highly recommend it for a first banjo.

I have always wanted a banjo. The reviews were positive and the price was right so I thought I would give it a shot! Had to set this one up on my own. The bridge came in a bag. NO big deal.

Comments about Rogue B30 Deluxe 30-Bracket Banjo with Aluminum Rim:

I'm a guitarist but wanted to expand my horizons a bit, so I picked up a Rogue banjo to learn some bluegrass fingerpicking and chording. Seems to be a really well-made instrument, quite a bit better sorted-out than the Rogue mandolin and dreadnought guitar I'd purchased a couple years ago. This banjo was set up and ready to play (after a little tuning) right out of the box. Sounds great too. Nice!
