Meh... a brand new fixer upper.

Features:

Comes with a "dust cover" leatherette gig bag.  No pockets.  Zippered.  I'm worried that using the handle would rip the bag.

Quality:

Poor workmanship for a Rogue.  Gloops of glue at neck/shoulder.  Fretboard is not flush with the neck. I have a Rogue Electric/Accoustic Mandolin which sounds better than many valued at 4x as much in my opinion but I was really disappointed with the Rogue Baritone Ukulele.

Value:

For the price, it was an ok value.  It was a SDOTD.

Overall:

The bones of this Rogue Baritone Ukulele may or may not be worth the time money and effort to resurrecting it. The bridge needs lowering, the strings need replacement and the finish needs touching up, pegs are loose.  It would take a lot of work to find out if the fretboard has intonation issues. It is like buying a brand new fixer upper project.  I'd say it would make for a good beach instrument but it is so quite, you couldn't hear it over the wind and surf.  It's no fun to play but could possibly see some value as a decoration or prop.  I guess it's value stems souly from its very low price.

Worth the price

Features:

It comes with a soft leather-like case. I wasn't expecting it, so that's pretty cool

Quality:

The bridge is off center, and it buzzes when I strum it. It sounds like it has a blown speaker. I like the buzz, though.

Value:

I got it as a Stupid Deal of the Day, and it was worth it.

Overall:

I got this when it was a Stupid Deal of the Day. I'd say it was worth that price, but not much more. The bridge is off-center, and when I strum it, it buzzes, like it has a speaker loose. I honestly like the sound, though. I've only had it a few days, but it seems to stay in tune better than my other ukulele (a soprano). I'm enjoying it, but it's kind of a "stay at home in your underwear and play ukulele" uke.

My first uke

| Review By: JohnCub | 1 week, 6 days ago

Features:

Item came with the ukulele, a plastic gig bag, and a tuning / song leaflet.  Uke features open gear tuners and faux binding around the body.

Quality:

The quality is on par with the price of the instrument in my opinion.

  • The tuners are geared so getting it in tune is not a problem although it does need tuned before, during, and after each playing.
  • There were many rough spots on the finish that I was able to rub off with my fingernail and smooth out.
  • There is a glue drip near the nut running down the outer edge of the fretboard but it does not interfere with fretting the instrument.
  • The paint/stain has runs near the heel of the neck joint.
  • The fret edges are relatively smooth.
  • There is very little fret buzz and intonation is on par with the price of the instrument.
Value:

For the price I paid I think the value is very high on this uke.  I've looked at them in retail stores before and wondered if I'd enjoy such an instrument but wasn't willing to spend top dollar to find out.  This uke gives me a taste of what the instrument is like and it's been a good enough experience to realize this will become my child's and I will purchase a nicer one when the opportunity arises.  Had the value (features + quality / price) not been so high I may not have decided this.

Overall:

As this Rogue Baritone Ukulele, model # RU20 is my first ukulele and I'd never played one before my opinion should be shaded in that light.  I find this instrument to be of more than adequate value for the price paid and I can't get over how much I like the instrument.  I'm very glad I purchased the instrument and would do it again.  It tunes easily, plays smoothly, and sounds clear and clean with very minimal fret buzz or other issues.

I think this is a perfect starter uke and especially for someone who already plays guitar since it is intended to be tuned the same as the highest 4 strings of a guitar.  That has allowed me to pick it up and play with only minor modifications to the way I play.

Small cost and a bit better than a toy

| Review By: stephen anderson | 1 week, 6 days ago

Features:

Purchased on sale, so not heavily invested, but this was not set up correctly. Baritone Ukes are tuned like a guitar, but these put the heaviest guage on the third string, throwing off the whole balance. Will have to restring as this cannot stay in tune for even 5 minutes.  If I can get it to stay in tune, I'd rate it a better value, but as is, it is little better than a toy.

Quality:

About what you'd expect at this price

Value:

Value will increase if I can get it to stay in tune.

worth the price

Features:

Looks nice and the tuning pegs seem pretty good.

Quality:

Plan to replace the strings with better ones.  G and D strings were reversed and all strings were of poor quality.  Strings are a little high off the fretboard.  Tone and volume very weak.  Plan to do some work before you play it.

Value:

For what I paid it is better than I expected and is well worth the price.

Overall:

You can get a much better sounding uke but you probably won't get one for less money.  Overall, this Rogue Baritone Uke doesn't compare with my Johnson Baritone but the price was sure a lot less.  It works well as a backup and for my granddaughter to learn on.
