I gave it a two rating because it was playable...barely.
I bought this Mandolin package because I thought it was the exact model I had played that belonged to a friend of mine. I later found out his was a Harmony...not a Rogue.
The long and short of it...It would not stay in tune and the cheap wood bridge broke the second day.
This Mandolin would be great for hanging on a wall or for use as firewood, but as a musical instrument, it fails.
If you can't afford a lot of money for a mandolin, I would go with an Epiphone.

Always wanted to learn this instrument, but without investing a ton of cash. This mandolin is perfect for getting a taste of how it feels. Amazed by the tone from such a low priced instrument. Get one- just because it is fun! You'll be glad you did. ..

I bought this for my son who plays guitar and wants to start exploring mandolin. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality. It plays well and has no fret buzz or other problems found in lesser expensive instruments. It doesn't sound like a Martin, but for the price I don't expect it to.

Comments about Rogue Mandolin Starter Kit Regular:

This is my first mandolin, and I was extremely please with how well it plays and how nice the action is on it. I have big hands, so I worried I would have trouble chording, but that really doesn't seem to be an issue. Also the bundle it came in has an extra set of strings and a soft gig bag, which I am also very please about.

I've had a great experience with this mandolin. Once it was set up properly, it plays beautifully and sounds good. I have recorded with this and got excellent results. Stays in tune and a great tone.

This package I think is the way to go. All things I would have bought anyway. Strings and strap are top quality. Gig bag is really well padded. I thought the other package was silly but this one is perfect.

So I would get this again, and I would get it in this same package!

Comments about Rogue Mandolin Starter Kit Regular:

MF is a great company and are easy to work with but I have a problem with Rogue instruments. I purchased this Rogue mandolin starter kit as a beginner and then wanted to upgrade as I progressed. This mandolin looked beautiful along with the gig bag but was impossible to tune. After spending more to have a luthier tune it, the mandolin still wouldn't stay in tune. Then spent more to ship it back to MF. It was a expensive lesson, so the moral of the story is....instruments are like a pair of shoes....you should try them on first. I realize you get what you pay for but this particular Rogue mandolin wouldn't make good firewood.

Comments about Rogue Mandolin Starter Kit Regular:

I bought this package because I wanted to see if I would like playing the mandolin. The gig bag is of decent quality, and makes it convenient for storage and protecting the instrument. The Martin strings are a must, as the ones that come on the mandolin are junk. The strap is useful, as it is hard to hold otherwise. All in all, a great bargain as long as you're not expecting a professional grade instrument. It will need to be set up in order to be playable. I adjusted the bridge height and sanded it to fit the contour of the arched top, and relocated the bridge for correct intonation. I have not yet cut the nut slots because they are pretty close right out of the factory. The improvement in tone and playability was amazing. I plan to get a more expensive mandolin in the future, just because I can't put this one down! I've found that I really enjoy playing the mandolin, and I have this Rogue to thank for my introduction. I will keep this one for a travel and camping companion.
