Overall, my rating is a 10 because I think the Ukulele Starter Pack is a fantastic value for what it is. Everybody should buy one and try it out! There might be less stress in the world lol. Ukulele strings don't make a beginner's fingers as sore as say a guitar will and that leads to more willingness to practice.

So... if you don't know whether the ukulele is right for you, this cheap starter pack should be your pick. You're not wasting any money and this little ukulele could be your gateway drug . Have fun!
The tuning pegs don't have as a tight a grip on the string as my other isntruments. If you can accept the fact, that you'll need to tune it just about every time you play it, you'll do fine. And if you're a beginner, you could use the practice anyway. It's only 4 strings. When you see Jake Shimabakuro play (he's famous), you'll note that he tunes his ukulele by ear before every song. If he can do it, you can do it .

Other reviewers have said new strings have improved the tension on the strings. I haven't tried this, but I will. It's not unreasonable.

Note: I gave the features a 7, but only because of the tuners.
I didn't find any big, noticeable flaws. There's a small scratch or imperfection in the body that the finish was applied over, but for the money, it's not worth complaining about. The body of the ukulele is not shiny, but a pretty matte brown. It looks elegant for what it is. It seems put together well and neatly. It's nice looking!

The gig bag is the cheapest one out of all the gig bags I have for various instruments. There's no pocket and it's made out of weird vinyl. There is no shoulder strap. But the handle is strong and the bag is padded, so it does protect the ukulele more than adequately.

I gave the quality an 7 because of the tuners and the gig bag quality, but don't let any of this stop you from buying the ukulele pack. Buy it! It's totally worth the money and for a starter instrument, it's totally fine. Why spend more if you don't know whether you'll love playing the ukulele yet?
The bottom line is that I got to try ukulele and decide whether I liked playing for a mere $$. With all my instruments, I promise myself that if I enjoy playing and pursue it actively, then I will buy myself an upgrade and gift my starter instrument to someone who might enjoy playing it as much as I do. I've had so much fun with this thing (you can get free lessons at ukeschool.com) that I'm definitely going to upgrade some time this year!

If something happened to this little baby before I was ready to upgrade, I would definitely buy it again. Similarly, after owning one myself, I'd also buy it for other people as a gift. It's a starter instrument that may meet your needs forever or maybe you'll do like I do .

I gave the value a 10 because it's a great value for the money. How many times in life can you pick up a new hobby for cheap - particularly a new musical hobby?

I bought this as my first ukulele because I'm interested in playing, but I wanted to be sure that I'm going to stick with it before sinking a good chunk of money into a more expensive ukulele.
The strings are cheap and hard to tune, but I had been told to expect that in a cheaper ukulele and I have some Aquila's coming in the mail.
I would recommend this as a starter uke or something to travel with if you don't want to bang up a nicer instrument, but probably not to an experienced player.

I may be new to ukulele playing but this is not a good uke. The stings kept falling out because it's not strung like a real ukulele. It's nice because you get like the whole set, but I'd suggest you get a better one and buy the accessories seperate. Costumer service was super nice when I exchanged it though!

Comments about Rogue Ukulele Starter Pack:

Pay attention to other commenters who state that the screws for the tuners need to be tightened. Note also that these are friction peg tuners, which makes it more difficult to get into tune. It may be that good strings would help this. It took about a day longer than I expected for it to stay in tune. Usually I find that you have to tune nylon strings several times a day for the first four days. Then they start to hold tune. This took about five days. The tone is also pretty thin. When I compare the wood and dimensions to my Epiphone, I don't see any reason for it, so I think it's the strings. However, there are other ukes on the website that come equipped with machine head tuners and better strings, and they are cost just a bit more.

The gig bag and pitch pipes are decent quality.

I had purchased this for a birthday gift for my Mom. In the final analysis, I was afraid she would get frustrated with the inferior quality and not use it, so I bought her a different one.

        Tuners are a Mess

I bought this ukulele for myself as a practice instrument. The body itself seems fine, but the tuners are poor quality. They don't stay tuned and sometimes they pop out of place and won't stay on key for even a minute. I won't buy a uke without geared tuners again, but I suppose you get what you pay for.

I've never played ukulele before, so I thought I'd give it a try on this cheap one. I love it! Taking the advice of some of the other reviewers, the first thing I did when taking it out of the box was tighten the tuning peg screws. Once I did that, I've had no trouble with it getting out of tune. I've never played a stringed instrument before, so I'm not really sure of the norm, but I've only had to tune it a few times over the last week, and nothing really major. The tuner it came with is not the one pictured, and I've been using both it and one I found online. The easy start pamphlet was crumpled in the box, but was still helpful for the initial few chords. I love the little carrying case, it was better quality than I thiught it would be. Overall, a great purchase!

Comments about Rogue Ukulele Starter Pack:

Quality is aweful. The bridge was just slapped on, not even close to where it should be. Intonation is unbelievably bad. So I split the difference when I tune it but... Will not stay in tune. I have tightened the tuners but it still slips out of tune in just a few minutes. I cannot tighten them any more without stripping something. I really should have sent this back for another, but the cost wasn't worth it. I'll give it to my 4 year old to play El KaBong with!!

I did find out I like playing Uke though, so will look for a mid priced model.

This ukulele does not stay in tune, as other reviewers have mentioned. This is why I took off a star from the rating.

However, we purchased this a toy "guitar" for our son's second birthday. It was better quality and slightly cheaper than the guitars we were seeing for him. As an added bonus, it came with the carrying case and pitch pipe, which were basically like two more toys for him. He plays it all the time, and likes to carry it around in its case.

It does have a few nicks and scratches after a month of use, but he is two. He has thrown it in anger a few times. He doesn't guard the finish like an adult or older child would. This was expected. A string did come unfastened after a week or two, but once again, that probably wouldn't have happened with a less aggressive/enthusiastic musician.

Overall, we are thrilled with this purchase. It fit our needs perfectly!

This has been mentioned in earlier reviews, but probably needs repeating every couple of pages: these tuners need to be tightened first thing, or they WILL be useless, and make the uke unplayable. To do this, simply tighten the screw at the end of the tuning peg - carefully - just enough to tighten the tuner so that it doesn't slip after tightening. Also,I notice that uke strings take a long time to stretch out to the point they stay in tune. You can help the process by carefully stretching the strings away from the fingerboard while sliding along the length of the string. Repeat this several times until they hold a tuning (you have to do the same with new guitar strings, except they seem to stabilize sooner than uke strings).
