I like it a lot. I just wish this product came in different colors -- the one I have now doesn't match well with my strap or guitar. However, it's very comfortable, so I would recommend this to any of my guitar playing friends.
It has all of the features a shoulder pad should have, but really -- it's just a shoulder pad. As far as features the only thing I could think of to make it better is a zipper on the side opposite the cushion area so that a guitar player could quickly remove the pad without having to detach the strap and slide the pad off the end. I was hoping for different colors (I wanted brown), but hey, it's a good deal either way.
It's comfortable, it feels like clouds resting on my shoulder. I haven't used it to stand up with my guitar for extended periods of time, but the comfort is still noticeable.
Even after shipping expenses? Great value. I went to my local guitar shop, and other online stores, and they all charged at least $20.

Unfortunately I bought the wrong pad. This pad simply doesn't work. The photo shows a series of oval cushions in the pad but this is NOT correct. The pads are more of an ice cube type affair with very little padding. The ice cubes are about 1/2" square. Because of tihs it doesn't redistribute the weight of the strap nor provide any cushioning. Second the pad is designed to slide on to a guitar strap up to 2" wide. Anything wider won't work without creative modifications. I was trying to use this with the PW Strap Lock which is too wide to fit. In the end I should have gone with the PW Gel Pad. It has a velcro fastening system that would have fit the PW Strap Lock & would have provided some cushioning. Maybe next time........

Comments about D'Addario Planet Waves Guitar Strap Shoulder Pad:

The other reviewers are correct, the pad looks different, it has little square-looking pads instead of the oval-looking things. It is actually pretty comfortable and in my opinion much nicer looking. I bought mine to pair with a A'Dddario 2" locking strap. It fits perfectly, it does not slip, which in this case is very good because the guitar it is intended for is heavy but very balanced. You can not see in the picture, but the actual pad has these three, let call it 'belt loops-like" holes where you put the strap. It is very nicely stitched, and in my case I like the fact that it let's the original strap design show as well. Most of my guitars feel pretty light next to this one (double neck BC Rich), so I haven't had the need for a pad until now. However, if and when I but another instrument that is heavy enough to warrant its need, I will purchase it again for that instrument, no question. Especially for the price, it makes it much more enjoyable to play the instrument than being distracted by gravity pulling down on your shoulder. I highly recommend it!

    Planet Waves shoulder pad.

Comments about D'Addario Planet Waves Guitar Strap Shoulder Pad:

I have had this shoulder pad for a while now and have noted that it will only fit over 2" wide straps. Depending on the material of the strap, it may allow the strap to slide somewhat. (The pad will stay in place.) No big deal if you have a balanced instrument. I have been using the pad with a rather heavy Jazz bass and it does provide some relief from the strap digging into my shoulder. It does NOT however redistribute the weight of the instrument in any way. If used as a means to alleviate the strap from digging into your shoulder, it works fairly well.

My two electrics and the strap arrangement really chaffed the neck and weighed heavy on the upper shoulder. The pads are just what the Dr. ordered really helps distribute the weight of the solid bodies.

Strap slides through, impossible to use

Comments about D'Addario Planet Waves Guitar Strap Shoulder Pad:

I bought this to use with a somewhat heavy guitar. The nylon strap I put through it doesn't stay in place, and ends up just sliding right through the slots of the shoulder pad. So the should pad stays put on my should, but the strap slides, and the neck of my guitar was pointing to the floor in a few seconds. I couldn't make it through one song with this before taking it off.

I'll probably try putting some velcro on it to see if that will help, but that's a design flaw that they really need to address.

Comments about D'Addario Planet Waves Guitar Strap Shoulder Pad:

This is a nice accessory for those who find their strap uncomfortably rubbing against their shoulder. However, if you're expecting what you see in the picture, that's not what you'll be getting. Instead of the little oblong shapes, the padded part is lined with small squares. Aside from that, it makes practice much easier. I can play for much longer without the strap digging into my shoulder!

Good product for the money. Not as effective as the Mega Bass Strap, but less expensive for those on a budget and who want to "lighten their load" with a heavy bass guitar.
