I have a couple Martin Shenandoahs, a D-4132 and a D-2832-12, but had no jumbo. Always wanted a Guild J30-12, but they were bit pricey. I just wanted a jumbo 12, and fell in love with the Alvarez. Very nice sound, very playable, and one of the best-built, laminated-side-and-back guitars I've seen in this price range. Hell, it's as good as my Shenandoah. I didn't opt for the electronics, but I should've. I just didn't want to have a cutaway. If I get a 6-string Alvarez, I'll install my own piezo/preamp setup in both. VERY GOOD guitar, especially for less than $500. Spring for a case -- the guitar's worth it.
I needed a 12 string for some studio work. This !2 string puts out great sound, is beautifully crafted, and is the best 12 string guitar I have played in a long time. Alvarez put alot of workmanship into this guitar. Breat buy, great deal. Sounds awesome in open D, DADGAD, and other open tunings.
Alvarez's got the best EQ system I've ever played. It's got separate controls for feedbacks and shaping your tone to your exact liking. It also allows you to control the amount of piezo you want going through your sound. I've owned Takamine, Fender, Yamaha, & Taylor 12 string guitars. None of them have this much to offer. When I plug my Alvarez into an acoustic amp or PA, I rarely do any tweeking on the mixer of the PA unit. The EQ on the guitar itself does the mixing for me. For you acoustic lovers who frequently plug in your instrument, this guitar is it. Now, I'll admit, its natural sound is nowhere near a Martin or Taylor, but when plugged in, competition's eliminated. I'm gonna try to order an Alvarez EQ system and replace it with my 6-string's stock EQ.
I had been wanting to add a 12-string to my collection and this one took me by surprise. I was just browsing one day last week (like we all do) and saw this beautiful guitar standing out from the rest. As soon as I picked it up and played it I was sold. The action was excellent, very low and comfortable. The appointments are elegant without being flashy. The pearl rosette and in the headstock are nicely done. Although this is a jumbo body, the sound has more of a mid to high range feel...probably because of the maple body. Great for cutting through the mix while recording. The maple on mine happens to be curly maple and it's gorgeous! The sound really rings forever because of the solid Engelmann spruce top. Just a great value overall...well worth the money.
This guitar is outstanding! I tried it used and it sounded nearly as good as a new Taylor 12 string that was nearly three times the price. It lacked a miniscule bit of warmth, but it appeared that the previous owner did not take the best care of this fantastic instrument. The heavens opened up and blessed us with this guitar.
Recently bought the guitar. This guitar looks great! The action is very low and sounds great. The only negative in my opinion is I would like a little more natural mid-range and low end. Using Eq will take care of that. It's a great guitar highly recommend buying it!
I picked this guitar up at a year end clearance sell (yes I got lucky). This guitar plays fantastic and sounds great. I previously owned a Fender 12 string which came nowhere close to this guitar, and I paid more for the Fender.
