Alvarez' thin neck on a superb dreadnought body with integrated electronics.
The cutaway Alvarez MD660C Masterworks Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric guitar is a paragon of playability, thanks to superb tonewoods and Alvarez' killer craftsmanship.
Built on the popular cutaway dreadnought guitar form, the Alvarez MD660C boasts a solid Western cedar top, for balanced and mellow tone”ideal for jazz standards or for intimate performance settings. The dreadnought's powerful fingerstyle tone is decorated with brilliance and clear sustain, shimmering highs, and a focused low end, with natural woody sound accentuating each note.
Solid Indian rosewood back and sides enhance these tonal qualities and amplify them through the soundhole. The cutaway guitar design offers further comfort when accessing the upper-register frets. Nickel die-cast machines deliver precision tuning, while the rosewood bridge and fingerboard bring clear, natural sustain. The Alvarez MD660C dreadnought is enhanced with desirable appointments like its exquisite maple binding, 3-piece Alvarez fingerboard inlay on the 12th fret, abalone rosette, and a soft satin finish.
The included Alvarez System 600T MK II Preamp/EQ is designed to offer the finest acoustic guitar tone reproduction available. The System 600T MK II provides a broad range of sonic control, mixing capability for different combinations of piezo/magnetic/microphone transducers, and features an on-board digital chromatic tuner. Equipped with a piezo pickup mounted under the bridge saddle, this pickup is connected to the Piezo input of the System 600T MK II. The Alvarez guitar will perform perfectly with this pickup/preamp combination.
Alvarez Masterworks guitars are among the highest values in the marketplace”the end result of Alvarez' creative spirit and relentless quest for perfection. Like the other reviewer, I do not own the 660C, but the 60C, the predecessor. Looking at the pictures, the only differences see are with the 12th fret inlay, and the inclusion of the "Alvarez" on the headstock of the 660C.I scored my MD60C almost-new for $200, but I would pay full price for this guitar, it would still be worth every penny. The guitar is twice as loud as the two other dreadnoughts I own, and it truly sounds amazing and gorgeous. They say once you go cedar, you never go back, and that is true for me! The aroma of the cedar soundboard is g-o-r-g-e-o-u-s! I can't help but sniff every time I start playing the guitar's thin, smooth neck. The cedar has a tight, straight grain, and the mahogany has beautiful grain as well. The rosewood fingerboard has straight grain as well, incredible considering this is a MIC guitar. The only qualms I have a slight: satin finish throughout (I prefer a gloss, but satin does let the instrument breath better), and plastic bridge pins (easy fix).Buy this guitar, you won't regret it.
I own the MD60C which is the predicessor to the 660c. The electronics are great, but this is the smoothest guitar I have ever picked up. The neck is thin for a dread, and it makes working up and down the neck effortless, you can play for hours with no fatigue. The satin finish is refreshing and really allows you to feel how precisely this guitar has been put together. If you ar looking for a bright guitar, this Cedar topped Masterpiece is not for you, it is smooth, mellow and woody. Playing an Em chord on this guitar will leave you smiling! You will have to go to atleast a 600 or 700 series Taylor to feel this sort of playablity! I love this guitar so much I bought an Alvarez MF350...WOW
