It's a good deal. Very attractive guitar, the picture doesn't do it justice. My biggest problem with it, is the spruce top, the sides don't match and the grain isn't very tight. Small imperfections, but nothing major. Great for the price, but I'd be a little disappointed if I paid 500+.
I've owned several acoustics over the years and I ultimately chose this one to be my main guitar. I keep going back to it and love how easy it is to play and how great it sounds. It plays and feels like many Martins that I've played. I'm a longtime Alvarez fan and if they keep making them like this, I will continue to be one. Don't be discouraged by the fact that it is made in Korea.
I purchased this guitar from Musicians Friend in Feb. It's a great guitar. It sounds perfect in my opinion. The action is great and I love the elixer strings they come with. Love the gold hardware on this series. And the rose wood is worth the extra money. I've always been a fan of Alvarez. They make quality guitars at affordable prices. They have great customer support.
It's a subtly, understated beautiful guitar. The build quality is excellent and the action is very low. It's easy to play, has very long note sustain and projects very well. However, for my taste the tone is geared too much toward the high end. The bass notes and the mid-range both sound thin. I'm not much of a guitar player, but I've been into high end stereo gear for many many years and to my ears that needed full, warm mid-range is just not there on this guitar. My ten year old Seagull S6 may not play guite as easy, but the sound is much fuller in the mid-range and across the full spectrum. Since the Seagull costs half as much, I can't recommend the Alvarez PD90S. But if you like lots of high end and strong projection in an easy to play guitar the Alvarez might work for you. I'm still experimenting with strings to see if I can tone down the brightness a notch. Also, I've only owned this guitar for about two months so I'm hoping the sound will warm up some as it gets broken in.
When I played with it at a local store, I couldn't believe how comfortable it was to play. I've played with my friends Martins, Taylors, Larrivees, Takamines, (all very nice guitars) my Yamaha, and others and I find the playability for my not-too-big hands on the Alvarez to be the best. I love the satin finish on the neck and the frets feel like they belong on a more expensive guitar. As far as the sound, it's really smooth and clean both when strumming and picking. It's bright and warm at the same time and really projects well without having to strum too hard. The guitar just resonates for a long time. I feel the whole guitar vibrating...even the neck! The overall visual appearance of the PD90S is simple and understated, but everything comes together nicely. I really like the maple binding for the quality and the visual appearance. The finish is flawless and it just sounds good. I've had it for about a month and I play it at least an hour a day. It just makes me want to play. I'm completely satisfied and I don't care that I didn't get a more expensive guitar. I also feel okay about actually using it whenever the need arises.
...to this guitar when I'm playing. I have five, but this is my personal favorite. Very clean tones, plays buttery smooth....
I love this guitar. Loud, bold, bright, beautiful guitar at a price that can't be beat. Compares very well with Martins taylors in the 1200 range. I also bought the Yairi DY84C as i loved it so much. Elixir strings are great too. No complaints at all.
Overall this guitar is worth the price. It has a very bright tone to it with quite a bit of sustain but it doesn't have much bottom end to it. It's good to have depending on what type of song your playing. Not the best guitar for fingerpicking I'd rather use a martin. But, the action on this guitar is nice and low never had any adjustments to it yet and it plays nice and easy. The guitar has a tight feel to it compared to my marting guitar it's a lot looser feeling but I can't really complain about this guitar overall.
