OVERVIEW

A value-packed guitar with full-scale neck, spruce top and mahogany back & sides.

The Alvarez RF12 Regent Series Folk/OOO Size Acoustic is a great sounding guitar and comes with a hardshell wood case. It has a spruce top and mahogany back and sides, classic tonewoods that generate a warm and well-balanced tone. The neck profile on the Regent Series is a little finer so they're easier to play and every model is constructed using a dovetail neck joint that optimizes the transfer of energy between the neck and body.

All Regent Series instruments are fitted with the Alvarez bi-level bridge to carry more vibration to the top, which improves tone and resonance, and the PPS saddle and nut help to improve response and sustain. It's been finished using an electrostatic painting process for a more even finish that uses less paint in its application. This allows the guitar to sing a little more and it also looks fantastic. It comes with premium die-cast tuners that deliver tuning stability.

RF12 - Great Guitar for Great Price

By MichelV

from Georgia

Comments about Alvarez RF12 Regent Series Folk/OOO Size Acoustic Guitar:

The RF12 is a great guitar. I unpacked it, tuned it and that's it! It plays great, sounds good, looks good.

It's the second Alvarez I've owned (previously owned a RD8) and I've been happy with both guitars.
Great playability and comes with a hard shell case. I also like the smaller body size compared to a dreadnought.
I can see no flaws in quality or workmanship.
Over the years I've paid more for guitars that didn't play this well. And, they didn't come with a case.

Comments about Alvarez RF12 Regent Series Folk/OOO Size Acoustic Guitar:

I purchased this guitar to use in my teaching studio & to use on small gigs with my students. It is well suited for these purposes. The case included is nice. I really appreciate Alvarez and the set up with their guitars. It is ready to play right out of the box. I like the smaller size especially for teaching when i have to play for hours at a time. It is very comfortable and stays in tune very well. I recommend using phosphor bronze strings to get a better tone. Overall this is a very good bargain

for the price it is incredible

I only wish I had gotten the acoustic/electric version

Comments about Alvarez RF12 Regent Series Folk/OOO Size Acoustic Guitar:

An ultra bargain! Started out with a buzzing fret & somewhat hard to play. Fortunately I know how to set-up guitars & did so. Required minor changes and filing all nut grooves. Installed .010 Martin strings and now this little jewel plays easily. This guitar was purchased to practice fingerstyle and the size suits that perfectly. I've been practicing at least a couple hours daily since purchase and the wood is already opening up & sound improving, especially the base strings. I was amazed at the quality of the included case. This would be a great guitar for a beginner.

Comments about Alvarez RF12 Regent Series Folk/OOO Size Acoustic Guitar:

I bought this guitar mainly for my 12 year old son who has expressed interest in learning the instrument. Upon receiving it, I noticed the action was sky high. The QA card in the case listed the action height at the first and 12th frets, but the 12th fret action was at least double. The truss rod appeared to be adjusted properly. Playing it wasn't pleasant with this setup. It comes with an extra plastic saddle, so I sanded the base on one till it just barely stuck out above the bridge. Much better. I also restrung it with some lighter strings to make it a bit easier for my son starting out. The stock ones sounded pretty good. I took it to my dad who has been playing for 40+ years, and he was impressed. He thought the nut could use a bit of filing in the slots to bring it down a bit, but that was his only complaint. Looks good for the most part, but if I look closely I can see some minor cosmetic issues, nothing that affects playability. Fretwork is ok, no sharp edges, no buzzing. The included case is actually very nice. Overall, a very nice basic instrument for anyone looking to start, or just needing a backup or a beater guitar.

Comments about Alvarez RF12 Regent Series Folk/OOO Size Acoustic Guitar:

Sadly my Martin D-28 is in for a repair and I wanted to have a guitar to play while it was gone. The low price, 000 size and solid tone woods were deciding factors. I figured if it was junk, I'd just return it. I have to say I am very happy with this guitar! After tuning it up I noticed the neck had a lot of relief. The truss rod was not engaged at all so I gave it a full turn and straightened out the neck. Action is low and no fret buzz. Very pleased with this guitar.
            Would recommend to a friend.

Comments about Alvarez RF12 Regent Series Folk/OOO Size Acoustic Guitar:

Received the guitar about an hour ago and a day early. Almost in tune right out of the case. The neck is straight, the inlays are nice and flush with the fingerboard, the frets are level and smooth. Very happy with the quality of the finish and overall appearance. It plays very well, the notes are clear across the register and project well. The harmonics I'm hearing off the stock strings are pleasingly surprising. It sounds like a new acoustic and I'm assuming it will season with time. I would definately recommend one to anyone looking for a good quality, low priced and fun to play acoustic.

Comments about Alvarez RF12 Regent Series Folk/OOO Size Acoustic Guitar:

For starters, this Alverez is one beautiful guitar. The design is very nice, the finish is smooth.

The body is a comfortable size. Projects great sound. The mohogany back and the spruce top combine a warm sound with a loud voice.
The neck plays nice and easy. The action was nice and low, without any buzz that I could find. Intonation seemed just fine to my ears.

As I mentioned above, the sound is very warm. The bass is welcoming, although not the best. (It's not a dreadnaught, so it's about what I expected.) The high end rings out well, but isn't the brightest. Honestly, the mid-range to this guitar is among the best I have ever heard. The D and G strings are this guitars best. They sound beautiful.
Unfortunately, though, I did notice an occasional plunking sound when playing melody. Nothing incredibly bad for the price range, though.

On the guitar itself I give a 4.5 out of 5. If it weren't for the plunking, a perfect 5.

The case: A sturdy wooden case, with the brand name printed right on the top. A general policy of mine: If the manufacture puts their name in bold print right on the front, they aren't ashamed of the product.
The pocket for accesories (Picks, capos, etc.) is a good size.
Offers good protection, nice and soft on the inside.
My one problem is that the handle seems flimsy. I'm not sure how long it will last.

              Case: 4.5.

Bottom line: I would miss it if I lost it. I might even upgrade to an acoustic-electric version. I enjoy the guitar. It is well worth what I paid. Great beginner guitar, or if you are looking to buy a small guitar for students.
