Having played for awhile now, I've gone through a few guitars. I headed out to a local music store, who had gotten a few Mockingbirds in recently, expecting to try a Washburn and not really loving it. However, I ended up looking at a Special X Mockingbird and, seeing a great price, thought I'd try it. It ended up being ~560 in the end, as it was a factor b-stock (it has 3 chips of paint missing, but they aren't visible from off-stage). All in all, it's done what I need. The neck took getting used to at first, but the only real issue I've ever had is how BC Rich does most of their strap buttons: on the back. It took me awhile to find a strap (eventually, had one custom made) that would make playing the guitar comfortable. In the end, I love the guitar and it's become my main guitar. I'm friends with a few other professional musicians in the area, and I've gotten compliments from them on it as well.
I was convinced that I would never own or play a B.C. Rich guitar. I just thought that they were flashy. I saw this at the music shop that I work at, and I was impressed by the craftsmanship of this guitar. So, as what I do with every new guitar that comes in, I picked it up and tried it out. Boy was i blown away!! The damn thing is so comfortable to play, it's almost like spooning the thing. Everything about this guitar is perfect, in my opinion. And as everyone says, the picture doesn't do this guitar justice. I have the cherry sunburst model. So I just had to buy it. You will not regret getting this guitar.
I have never played any instrument that made playing as much fun as my mockingbird. It has tremendous sound and is so easy to play. I love everything about it.
I just bought this guitar today. Got the Dragon's Blood finish. Lemme just say, the picture doesn't even communicate how beautiful the finish is. It looks too dark and blurry in the picture. The guitar plays like a dream. The action is perfect for me, the pickups sound heavenly (if you like metal). The only problem is that if you extend your arm when strumming, you run the risk of turning down the volume, but that's not a problem with me.The Mockingbird is B.C. Rich's masterpiece. Nuff said.
this is a great guitar!! usually u know b.c. rich focuses on the body style more then the sound and how it plays, but this has got to be the greatest b.c. rich i have ever played and ive been playing fo 7 years.
i play alot of guitars and am very picky when it comes to spending cash on my instruments. this guitar is a very very sweet sounding instrument. it sings when you are playing clean and growls when you play it dirty. a beautiful finish and great pickups make this instrument a great deal as well as a great rock and roll machine! get one. you will love it!
I always wanted a BC RICH MOCKINGBIRD back in 1194 i was going to buy one but I decided to go the gibson les paul standard way my les pal might be my favorite guitar . because it is the holy grail of guitars. my BC RICH MOCKINGBIRD is the most fun to play it is so so loud great for soloing and just fun to play. HTe action is so fast the guitar has great sound and tones I now have the best of both worlds!!! a must buy
This guitar is fan-freakin'-tastic! Smooth like glass neck, a vast upgrade from my Squire. On the Squire it felt like I was grabbing a baseball bat and playing this piece of well...wood. The Mockingbird sounds like a guitar should sound. Smooth clean tones, and epic (like '300' epic) distortion sounds. I run it through a Line 6 15W combo and I have it set on Metal and Insane all the time for playing my specialty, metal and thrash. I play it on clean for the bluesy jazzy tone. It works great with any genre of music. I can just easily see Mick Thompson playing one of these as I can see someone like John Lee Hooker playing one. The guitar is fantastic. Well, what are you waiting for? Go out and expierience (spelling?) this bird before its too late!P.S. I own the Dragons Blood and it is the most beautiful thing EVER!!!!!
Let me get my cons out of the way first. Yes it would have been a nice bonus to have a tremo, EMG pups, 24 frets, a hardshell case and top notch electronics. I'm not super thrilled about the cloud inlays either. Finally getting an absolutely perfect setup will require some attention but came pretty darn close out of the box.But if you can find this guy on deep sale, what you'll get is an extremely smooth, fun to play, great sounding, EASY, versatile axe for riffage. The finish is top shelf and none of the internet pix do it justice. If you're not afraid of setting your guitar up, you'll be greeted with one of the smoothest straight necks I've ever played. The hardware keeps the axe in tune despite wailing and I'd feel confident taking her on the road as a main. The rockfields are actually pretty hot so the better your grounding, the less noise especially on the neck pup. Darn near perfectly balanced sitting down and standing up. Not as heavy as an LP. Oh yeah and that classic bird body and BCR headstock is the best!!Make sure when you're ready get an official case for this axe though. Doesn't play well with the strat/tele or more extreme BCR cases.
I picked up this guitar 2 weeks ago and I had to return it. The reason is that it's difficult to play the higher fret. The lower part of the guitar is a bit narrow to play comfortably. This guitar is poorly designed for the comfort.
This thing is so sweet, sounds crystal clear unplugged, no buzzes, no unfiled fret ends, superior workmanship. I am a luthier, I know quality when I see it, and this thing is as good as any guitar I have ever built or played. When plugged into one of my Marshalls, or Mesa/boogie, well, look the hell out this puppy just howls! For hard rock/metal, this devil really shines, she was built for this, but also can squeal out some really howling greasy blues. Buy this guitar. Period.
Great guitar! I purchased mine just yesterday, and was blown away. It plays just as good as my Les Paul Studio and American Standard Strat. Oh, and not to mention it is so comfortable to play.
this guitar is a good guitar for any kind of metal. it has great action, sustain, and feel.ok now for the cons. the pick ups will need to be replaced with emgs and new strings then the stock strings. this version is the lesser one. the better one (that i think everyone should buy) has a floyd on it and that makes it that much more metal. look on the bc rich website for more info about it.
Oh my freaking God, you have to be out of your mind not to own one of these. For a while, I played an SG and I loved it. But I saw this guitar on the B.C. Rich website and decided that I had to try it.I tried it out at a store in Mankato and decided that I had to have it.Pinch harmonics are definately easier in a mockingbird, the sound is clearer, and its just great over all. you'd have to play it to believe it.
I recently picked this one up and tried it out, and I was blown away. It just feels quality, and it has great tone and sustain. I will be purchasing this guitar within the week. I recommend a purchase, you won't regret it!
