OVERVIEW

A compact instrument that's great for fingerpicking with all solid tonewoods and traditional construction.

The Historic Series offers authentic vintage style, paying close attention to the details of the most sought after pre-war instruments. The BR-163, built in the comfortable 000-sized body makes not only a truly enjoyable guitar to play, but the ultimate finger picking guitar in its price range. Crafted with a select solid spruce top, hand-carved X-bracing, choice solid rosewood back and sides, with herringbone top trim and a traditional dovetail neck joint.

Blueridge is an offshoot of the South San Francisco-based Saga Musical Instrument Company. Blueridge specializes in "traditional" guitars that offer today's player vintage styling with modern performance at a level of quality and price that compares favorably to historic guitars. Each instrument is the result of detailed research and is carefully crafted at the Blueridge factory. Consistency is evident throughout, from the fretwork to the intricate inlays that adorn each Blueridge headstock.

Comments about Blueridge Historic Series BR-163 000 Acoustic Guitar:

Okay... Blueridge/Saga copied the Martin design. Many Martin owners are not thrilled with that. I own several (6) acoustic guitars including a Martin D-18V, and I've gotta say the BR-163 is, IMHO, easier to play (nice neck profile), as pretty, and actually sounds AS GOOD as my Martin. Now, I realize I'm comparing a dreadnought Martin mahogany back/sides to a OOO Blueridge rosewood back/sides, but the Blueridge is a louder, more evenly toned guitar. Considering the price tag on the Martin ($2000+) vs the Bluridge ($650+), this purchase is a no brainer. If you don't believe me, go play one and compare. I think you'll be as surprised as I was.

As soon as I received my BR-163, I took it to my Luthier and he did recommend adjusting the nut, but was otherwise impressed with the overall build. He commented on how the frets were a perfect fit and finish, which he thought was unusual for a "factory built" guitar. He also pointed out the beautiful color in the abalone fretboard inlays, and the quality of the spruce top and rosewood used.

All in all, I'm very pleased with this guitar, and look forward to hearing how the guitar sounds after being broken in, since it sound sooooo good in its unplaced condition.

Comments about Blueridge Historic Series BR-163 000 Acoustic Guitar:

Probably one of the best guitars for the money. I do have a Martin OM and I got this Blueridge BR 163-A because it is similar in size, shape, style and wood materials and I wanted a guitar that I would not be afraid to bring along on trips. Funny, now I tend to play the BR more than the Martin OM. I was skeptical before ordering as to how it would feel and sound and was stunned at how good it is!
