Comments about Breedlove Passport Traveler E Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I had launched an exhaustive search for a small travel guitar that was portable (read: planeable) and good sounding. Here's what you must know: If you, like me, expect a guitar this small to ring, resonate and respond like a full-sized guitar, you're expectations are too high. Because I live in an area that is lean on solid music stores, I trekked as far as 3.5 hours to a store where there was a good selection of small/travel guitars. I played ALMOST everything in the category, and, save for the most expensive (one manufacturer's "mini" series), nothing was good enough to be called a serious instrument. I came home disappointed, then saw the Breedlove Passport Traveler E here at MF. It was the only guitar in its category I HADN'T played, so, I took a gamble. In a way, it paid off. The Passport Travel is, I'd say, 90% as good sounding as the aforementioned "mini" series guitars, at a much friendlier price point. But, I'm still disappointed that it doesn't sound like my full-sized guitar. My bad, I know.

This is a nicely-made instrument, no doubt. Well-constructed, good fit and finish, nice woods, and Fishman electronics that, although not top-notch, would do in a pinch. It plays pretty well, although the nut seems to be slotted high, making fretting on the first couple of frets a bit uncomfortable. I have yet to do a setup on it, but likely will soon.

Now, before you beat me up, I know, I know, I KNOW that a small guitar cannot sound like a big guitar. I just wish it would. Again, my expectations were too high. On the flip side, I had opportunity to toss it in an overhead for a short trip, and played it off and on the whole weekend. It was great just to have any guitar along. This one will do just fine. To quote Steve Stills, "If you can't be with the one you love, love the one you're with."

Comments about Breedlove Passport Traveler E Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I would recommend readers to read the reviews on the non electric version of this guitar. They are right on the mark. This guitar is a 22.5 scale, nut is 1"11/16, 2" 1/16 @ 12th fret. I would call this a U shaped neck. Its not a small thin neck. Satin finish is very good, smooth, frets are nice, tuners are nice. and NO BRIDGE PINS string through bridge...genius. Electronics sound very good, just EQ to taste. Its not a full size dreadnought, but that's like comparing a violin to a viola. It has a very nice sound of its own. These travelers are now discontinued. I will be carefully guarding mine and enjoying every minute of it. I'm very happy to have found this little gem.
