3. Great sound espcially with a Peavey VYPYR
great sound, great action, a set neck, beautiful ammenities, with pearl and abalone inlays, grover tuners and Indian rosewood, can't beat that!
Quality:
Easy to play faster action. When I went to a local guitar store, they showed me the DC-2 ST. Right away I felt this was a great guitar especially with someone with smaller hands,( but I paid the full price). Now I just can't stop playing. but I'm sure this guitar will be great for everyone. Ordered another for my nephew from you all!
Value:
The finish is very similiar to a gibson les paul and similiar in sound . I would consider this as a starter guitar up to the working professional or for people like me with smaller hands, but I'm sure everone one will love this guitar. Very versitile.

Some of the comments I am leaving are personal preference and others may not agree. The main reason I gave this guitar a poor rating is because straight out of the box, it would need a fret job. Multiple frets are rough, corroded and some have considerable flat spots. See the picture I included.

I have a Charvel Model 6 and a Jackson Kelly. Chravel/Jackson are some of my favorite guitars so I was very disappointed in the quality of this guitar. I hope I have an anomaly and the rest of the production run is perfect.

As for my personal preferences:

The bottom horn on this guitar is pretty tight. Looking at a picture of the guitar, you will see the fretboard extends past the cut away pretty far. I don't have a small hand, probably large but not huge. For me to access frets 19 and above, I have to angle my hand a bit as is typical, but the horn is close to the neck and does not leave a lot of room for me to turn my hand. It is very uncomfortable for me to play on the high frets.

I have several guitars with unfinished necks, all maple. I love them and as you play it over time it gets hand finished by the oils on your hand. This guitar has a mahogany neck and I am unsure that its large open grains will ever rub smooth like maple. Unsure being the key word but out of the box I felt like the mahogany was rough and would have been better if they finished it.

I never plugged it in, I literally played it for two minutes, felt the frets, saw the poor condition they were in an sadly returned it.

Do yourself a favor and play one at a store. Maybe you will love it's features, I really wanted to. If you do, take a chance and buy it. I hope the sad craftsman ship on the one I received is not the norm for one of my favorite manufacturers.

Comments about Charvel Desolation Double Cutaway 2 Electric Guitar:

Like everyone here has said it is an amazing guitar, were working on an album right now and so far all the tracks have been recorded with this guitar. We have a 3000 dollar les paul, another 3 guitars (Ibanez, Schecter, LTD) and this blows all of them out of the water and the others are all atleast tripple the price. Almost couldn't believe what i saw when it arrived. I must admit i was also nervous because i've never heard of charvel but the guitar is really worth triple what you pay for it. Buy it! You will not regret it, i promise you.

Comments about Charvel Desolation Double Cutaway 2 Electric Guitar:

Purchased the Charvel Desolation DC-2 in Smear Blue the other day at a convention, and haven't regretted it yet! The active pickups that come stock with the guitar are amazing for the price of the guitar...even while playing with my gain all the way up, I don't lose any tone or gain any muddyness at all. The neck is very smooth, and the guitar came setup VERY well straight from factory. I slapped some Skinny Top - Heavy Bottom strings on it (9-52 guage), and tuned to drop B right away. Have been playing it for a little over a week and it has YET to go out of tune. I have had many guitars in my past, from Ibanez, to Yamaha, Fender to Jackson....and dozens of pickups, and this guitar takes the cake in every category possible.

Comments about Charvel Desolation Double Cutaway 2 Electric Guitar:

Cannot praise this ax enough... just a metal machine.... Action is phenomenol out of the box.. it almost plays itself, yes it is that good!!! I have owned Fender Strats, Gibson Les Pauls, Gibson SG's, and PRS's but this guitar absolutely and unequivocally blows them all out of the water for playability.
Everything you need to play Metal or Classic Rock! The Charvel active pickups have incredible sustain... a little feedback at times but that is to be expected with these type of pickups.
Excellent craftsmanship--no flaws. Action was perfect out of the box.
      Unbelievable value for the price...

Comments about Charvel Desolation Double Cutaway 2 Electric Guitar:

Again the color is just beautiful! Far exceeded my expectations when I opened the box,WOW! The neck is just fantastick as well, great action and playability. It is really light and makes hanging on your neck all night a pleasure. The three way toggle switch is right where it needs to be to change your sound and it just sounds great with nice sharp clear highs and a very mellow lower range. This guitar can give you most of all the sounds you'll want for whatever style of music you're playing. If My house cought on fire, this would be the guitar that I grabbed to get out!
I admit that I was a little sceptial of the quality of this guitar because I had never heard of Chavel and also few things in life that are any good are reasonably priced these days. I ALWAYS read the reviews to see what other people who have bought the item say about it as I did with this guitar. Everyone said good buy and they were RIGHT!! This is a great guitar. I also have a Telecaster, Stratocaster, Les Paul and an Ibanez and this is really my favorite! I bought the Blue Smear Transparent and it is simply BEAUTIFUL! The absolute best finish on a guitar I've ever seen. If your looking for a great sounding guitar, great looking guitar, great action, ( as good as the Fenders and Gibsons) then the price will just be the icing on top of the cake. I LOVE this guitar!
Everything about this guitar is top quality. Beautif color, craftsmanship, Chavel active humbucking pickups and action all say that somebody there at Chavel cares about their product! This would be the last guitar I'd let go.
For the money I haven't seen anything to even come close, really! If the price of this guitar was based on it's quality, It would sell for three times what they are asking for it.

Great guitar from Charvel (can't believe some others never heard of this company-remember Randy Rhoads and Jackson???) nicely balanced, light weight, active pickups are quite powerful, finish is great. Surprisingly, this thing plays blues great on the neck pickup with some tone control rubbed off, great sustain. A steal at this price, get one or two before they figure it out and raise the price!

Comments about Charvel Desolation Double Cutaway 2 Electric Guitar:

This guitar was on Stupid Deal of the Day sale at great price that was hard to pass up. I needed a guitar with acitive pickups and I ordered it. I was extremely pleased with the quality, tone and playability of this guitar right out of the box. I've played Charvel guitar before, back in their prime in the early 80s and this guitar carries their legacy. The Charvel Active pickups sound very good, but I will be changing it with a set of Seymour Duncan Blackouts as I want more output and more organic, open tone. The Charvel Active pickups sound closer to EMG 81/85. The fretboard was very easy to play, not buzz and the action was low. I highly recommend this guitar.
