Comments about Charvel Desolation DS-3 ST Electric Guitar:

I love this guitar, the workmanship compares to my PRS SE Custom 24, and in fact it might sound a bit better, for a fraction of the price. The body seems to be a bit smaller and it is definitely lighter.

Comments about Charvel Desolation DS-3 ST Electric Guitar:

Much better than I had expected. Plays very well. A small amount of work was needed to get that "flat" sound out of the high E string on the first fret when barred. Small problem easy fix. The look and finish was flawless.

Comments about Charvel Desolation DS-3 ST Electric Guitar:

The unbound neck is very straight and the setup out of the box is pretty fast. 09 gauge strings. The guitar feels nice it's not as lightweight as the Dean Vendetta XM but lighter than a standard Gibson LP or Epiphone. Feels very comfortable. The sustain is very noticeable compared to the Dean a little , more fret thickness above the surface of the smooth almost polished fret board. The tuners feel good and the big E sets in tune pretty good.
The pickups are nice and the pots are full size. The overall fit and finish of the guitar is very good. I like the pickups so much that bought a set of pulls from another owner. Neck 9.5k & Bridge 15.5k This is pretty nice guitar and deserves a hard shell case.

Comments about Charvel Desolation DS-3 ST Electric Guitar:

This is a raw intrument; proper setup required! If you know how to adjust the neck, and how to correct for intonation, then buy this. If you have no desire to learn guitar setup and maintenance, you can hire someone to do it for you. Most guitars require some setup to tailor them to your preferences anyway. Guitar has passive electronics. Neck to headstock transition is not entirely smooth. Overall, this guitar kicks it for the price!

Comments about Charvel Desolation DS-3 ST Electric Guitar:

This guitar is great it is my first Charvel and it's awesome what a steal the quality is amazing I am impressed since I have more expensive guitars from different companies that are not made this well. For this price you can't go wrong. The clean tones are a little muddy but that can be fixed by adjusting the pole positions on the pick ups.

Comments about Charvel Desolation DS-3 ST Electric Guitar:

For one thing I think if musicians friend actually gave a description and info on this guitar they might sell more because this thing is SWEET!!! No info so I did my research on it and decided for the price its a good bet and let me tell you I was a 100% right. 1) the picture they have up doesn't do this guitar justice, it is way more beautiful in person. The neck of this thing is just so smooth and thin making solo's and fast riffs insanely easy. The PUP's are pretty good for this price point, better than any others I have heard in this price range. The tuners are smooth and hold a tune very nicely (which I was quite surprised about). The price point that musicians friend has this 100 cheaper than I have found elsewhere and of course the shipping was insanely fast. They said 4-6 days arrived in 3 days. I really cant say enough good things about it. Its really hard to look at it and not pick it up and play it. The bad.... Its pretty small. MY sons guitar is a 7/8th version and this guitar is the same size. although its light but still seems to have beef to it hitting the 17-24th frets are a challenge and takes getting used too. Other than that I have no complaints. You would be insane to get anything else in this price point cause they wont be as good. The quality and attention to detail make it feel and look like your playing a 400 price point guitar. Bravo Charvel and bravo musicians friend on the price of this gem!!! Couldn't be happier!!!!!

Comments about Charvel Desolation DS-3 ST Electric Guitar:

I've just bought my second one of these Charvel DS3s. They are a great value--if you are looking for an inexpensive, light, single cutaway guitar with a couple of humbuckers, then look no further.

Charvel product manager Mike McGee has said that he spent a lot of time working on the neck design on these Desolation series guitars--and it shows. They are unfinished (gun stock oiled) with a compound radius fret board--12" - 16", a feature you only see on high-end guitars. The shape of the neck is slim. I like a chubby neck profile, but the profile of the Charvels is fine. The fretboard is rosewood and the frets on my two guitars are very well done--no sharp edges, they are level and playable across all 24 frets. The neck is bolt-on, but Mike and team got this right too--they've contoured the heel and recessed the bolts to improve access at the dusty end of the neck. Nut is plastic, but similar to what you get on most import guitars. The tuners hold tune really well--not the smoothest I've felt but they work for now.

The tune-o-matic style bridge is inexpensive but comparable to what I've had on my Gibson Les Pauls. My only reservation is the pickups. These are pretty hot, but they clean up well. Charvel recorded a video of the DS3--the guitarist plays country on his, so they must clean up!

The finish of the guitars is very good. While there are very minor flaws--at least I think they're flaws, they don't stand out at all and are only visible under certain light and only under close examination.

Charvel definitely got these right, and for their retail price, I don't think you can go wrong. I liked my first one so much, I bought a second.
