Bought this guitar as an open box blemish, i couldnt find anything wrong anywhere, it plays great, sounds great, and for the price point it would be difficult to find anything to compare.

It's a neck through, EMG pickups, excellent fit and finish, no sharp frets.

Only downside is there is no tone knob, so some people may find it limited in that way, but for me i always have the tone knob dimed so it really doesnt affect me.

I have 3 of the Desolation 1 series guitars and all three have been flawless. if youre in the market for a great midrange priced guitar check these out, you wont be disappointed.

Fun to play right away, easy action. I found myself having to re-tune often, but I play with constant excessive string bending. Because of its shape, the neck is heavy and will not balance hands-free which has always annoyed me. Other than these things, a good product for the money.

Cheap enough but I hoped for more. I used to love Charvels but I hate what Fender has done to the brand. At least the neck plays well.

This guitar has crazy low action to really shred it up. The tones are fantastic with virtually no hum. For the price you cannot beat the quality here. I love it!

Listen kittens, do you really wanna rock? You can't pass this instrument of stringed atomic xanadu up. I play classic hard rock and lunatic scare your children blues with this thing. I am not the daintiest petal on the flower and this thing is a true workhorse for the touring git-fiddler. I hope this is a limited run cause if many more gifted players git-a-hold of this thing, I am a factory-rat! Keep rockin LOUD, kiddies!

Comments about Charvel Desolation DST-1 ST Star Electric Guitar:

A lightweight, well constructed, easy to play guitar with stunning stage looks and super high-gain output. Stand back from the amp because this guitar will melt your face off with screaming high mids and excellent harmonic overtones. This guitar will also give good clean sounds with the single volume rolled all the way back (think Metallica's "Nothing Else Matters" intro). The see-thru black flame maple top with abalone purfling (binding) looks great under stage lights. The neck-thru-body design has excellent sustain. The neck is unpainted maple and has a shallow and comfortable D-shaped profile with soft shoulders that helps with extended playing. The fretwork is quite good. There are abalone inlays in the shape of pyramids and not the shark tooth design as stated in the description. It has a bound fretboard, more abalone purfling on a headstock that matches the body color and locking tuners. Downsides: there is very little bass and low-mid response, so your 4x12 cabs will not thump you in the chest while playing muted chunking on the low E. When received, the upper wing was covered in sticky and difficult to remove packing tape residue. The plastic and styrofoam packaging stuck to this residue with vigor and is very difficult to remove. Last downside, no case.

Excellent guitar! The only cons are-Doesn't balance well on a strap, the lower horn makes access to the 24th fret kinda hard, there's a ridge where the neck meets the body that could've been finished/sanded better. To me these are minor problems.I wouldn't hesitate to buy it again.I'm actually thinkin about gettin one with a floyd in black.

Not bad at all. For less than 3 bills and free shipping...you can't go wrong. I bought this guitar because of the price and what it has to offer. Active EMG's, neck through, locking tunners and more. Needed a set-up right out of the box though. Strings way to low and lots of buzz. Love the balance this guitar has. Nice to play sitting down. Fret board is a little cheap but all in all...a nice axe. Looks cool too.

Love this Guitar. The only 1 flaw I found was where the neck goes into the body is not exactly a smooth perfect fit. But for the price and that it has no impact on my playing I'm not going to complain.

Comments about Charvel Desolation DST-1 ST Star Electric Guitar:

I got the model in white while MF was having a sale. I have wanted a Charvel Star for years and decided on a whim to buy.

First off, do not have any qualms that it is made in China. The craftsmanship is definitely on par with the old Charvels, and pretty similar to American Fenders.

Some reviews have talked about fret buzz, which isn't an issue if you play in Drop C. The guitar shipped and appeared to have been set up in Drop C. Being someone who normally plays in Standard Tuning, I noticed some fret buzz once I tuned it up, so it was necessary to make some additional slight adjustments to the truss rod to compensate for the higher tuning and the fret buzz was gone.

The EMGs sound amazing through all of the amps I have played it through so far including a Peavey Rage 158 practice amp and a Carvin X100B 2-12 tube combo.

There is no tone control, and as someone who normally plays with the tone control on 8, I have had to compensate with my amp's EQ. Not a dealbreaker, but something to be aware of.

At the asking price this is a really good guitar. On sale, you can't pass this up if you are a heavy metal or rock player.
