Comments about Charvel Desolation Skatecaster SK-1 FR Electric Guitar:

First off,... I play Heavy Rock/Metal, been playing over 10 years, I've owned a lot of "well made" guitars (I'm not a kid with his first guitar), that being said...
Dig this guitar... I've only had it 2 weeks, but I have played the heck out of it.
Plays great, Sounds great, Feels great (love the unfinished "oiled" neck)- where the paint meets the neck, it's not real smooth, but that doesn't bug me!
The EMG's are sweet, (I have them in all my guitars) The Sustain on the guitar is awesome, actually better than my ESP/LTD M-1000 (a guitar costing twice as much) The Floyd stays in tune well (and I USE the Floyd for full dives)...
I got the Flat Black one, No abalone binding (which I like), wish they used Basic "dots" on the fret board (again, not into abalone so much)...
This is my first Quality "made in China" guitar, very surprised, well made (al my other guitars are made in Korea or Japan)... This guitar has changed my mind about Chinese guitars (good job Charvel) (my MIJ San Dimas is a little nicer, but was a lot more expensive)

If you want to hear it? I recorded "Fly Away" with it, check it out hear >>>

        Pro's
Just an amazing finish basicly a custom shop guitar for a give away price. With the clearance sale.

        Con's
they don't know how to set up a floyd properly,
        no big deal
I did have to remove the rear cover and adjust the spring tension to keep proper string height with proper tuning. If you don't know how, take it to a guitar tech, it takes about 3-5 minutes.
        TECH TIP!
you can raise or lower the action with the rear springs, just loosen or tighten the 2 screws holding the springs in place.

        After thoughts
I bought the DC-2 in SDOTD, for 2 Franklins
I was blowen away, I waited for one with a Floyd to go on sale, Picked it up for 2.5 Franklins, 2 weeks later.
I am even more amazed, the EMG's are a step up from the Charvel active pickups, this beast almost has too much sustain I find myself muting it.
I have a new favorite Guitar, selling 2 from my collection now!

For the Clearance price I payed , this guitar is almost a give away! I am just stunned and amazed getting a 900$ almost custom shop guitar for 2.5 Franklins

Comments about Charvel Desolation Skatecaster SK-1 FR Electric Guitar:

I wanted a guitar that had a bit more bite than what I already have. And this one sure fits the bill. It has a great sound all the way up to the 24th fret. I never owned an EMG fitted guitar, so on that I will wait and see. Very smooth neck and frets and the body style is a very contoured fit. I played this several times but yet to up the volume to really hear it. Not many reviews, so that's why I wrote "under the radar". Plays very sweet and more importantly, stays in tune. One thing to know is that there isn't a tone knob. But that hasn't stopped me from cranking it up. Bottom line, I like it. But play one before you commit.

Comments about Charvel Desolation Skatecaster SK-1 FR Electric Guitar:

I purchased on Stupid Deal so I couldn't be happier. Mine is flat black. Neck through. Active EMG's. Set-up was decent out of the box - but I still sent it out for a set-up with my tech - it only got better (strung with 9's). Finish fine. No ragged fret ends. I like the neck scale and compound radius. Love the unfinished neck. I don't have a problem with the paint line where neck meets body. Great access to 24th fret. Has FRT01000 Floyd. This is the same materials/build as an OFR but made in Asia (by Ping?) instead of in Germany by Schaller. Trem feels great. I was wary of EMG's without a tone knob but I have to say they sound pretty balanced to me compared to the passive Evo2's I have in the bridge of all my Ibanez guitars. Body shape is cool. I almost bought a Surfcaster back in the day. Very pleased with this instrument.

Comments about Charvel Desolation Skatecaster SK-1 FR Electric Guitar:

I bought a Charvel SK-1 FR on a SDOTD -taking a chance since there weren't many reviews of it. Lucky for me, it's amazing! I was expecting some kind of obvious flaw or for me to be disappointed, but that was out of the question by the second day. It feels great; the neck is comfy, its pretty heavy but resonant, and the floyd seems to work great. Research lead me to believe that the trem isn't a cheaply made and will hold up. Time will tell, but for my first FR in 21 years of playing, its fun as hell. I would highly recommend the Skatecaster. Lastly, pictures never detailed, but it does come with a locking nut, so that was another relief. Anyway, I have a dark son of the guitar I used to drool over when I was 15 and it fits me very well 20 years later. Thanks!!

Comments about Charvel Desolation Skatecaster SK-1 FR Electric Guitar:

This is the first new guitar that I have bought that needed nothing but tuning when taken out of the box. The setup on it was great and intonation was good to go as well. It got delivered before my lunch break today and I live 5 minutes from work. It was very hard to put it down and head back to work. It has the most awesome neck I have ever played on. I have looked it over and the quality is real good but I did find a little spot but nothing to cry over. The EMG pickups sound good. I hope they continue this series but maybe puts some Seymour Duncan's in them. I'd definitely want one. I have only put like 5 hours on it before writing this review. I just know its the best out of the box and the neck is wonderful in my hands. I don't know what they finished the back of the neck with but I like it. The frets have no sharp edges and it just feels good from top to bottom. I will eventually put new strings on but not for a couple of weeks.
