This is the best guitar I have ever played in my life! And I dont want you to take that too lightly...I've played vintage Fenders and Gibsons, thanks largely to my cousin, who is a bit older than me, and this guitar just burns them. The action is so incredibly smooth that you can effortlessly bend your high E up 2 steps, no problem. The neck is a little thicker than I had ever played before, but within a few hours I wondered how I ever went without it. The set neck was what really did it for me. I've never really cared for bolt on necks, although I own a few guitars with them, I've always really liked the set neck feel on my Epiphone Explorer.....Speaking of the Explorer, theres another thing I want to mention. My Explorer is made out of Korina, which is supposed to be lighter than mahogany and promote sustain. This dean is bigger than the explorer shape, and yet it feels at least a pound or 2 lighter, and its made out of solid mahogany. Weight wise I'd say its a little heavier than a strat, but not even close to a les paul or an explorer for that matter. The neck pickup is very smooth, which is great for lead playing. The bridge pickup is kinda trebly, which I like, but some of you that are into the low end might not like much. The bridge is licensed, but don't let that fool you either. It is a hell of a lot better than some other companies licensed bridges....like Jackson. This version stays in tune 98% of the time, and one day when i get the money I plan on replacing it with an original floyd. The only thing I don't like about this guitar is the fact that it only has 22 frets. 24 would have made this the absolute best.

First - don't ignore the negative comments like I did. I always liked the look of a V shaped guitar, but looks can be deceiving. It arrived in tune and ready to play. After watching all the available you tube videos the problem is if you don't know what they are playing through you end up with disappointment. I play through a Mesa Mark V and based on the physical make up of the guitar, ie Mahogany body, maple top, rosewood fingerboard I figured I could not go wrong. While it sounded OK, it did not blow me away as others have commented. I did not want to chance keeping it and swapping out the pickups to then have a much bigger disappointment. The guitar also kept sliding down neck first when standing, which was aggrivating. YOU WILL NEED TO PURCHASE DEAN'S CASE. As others have indicated it will not fit into a standard fender sized case. The play at the first two frets sounded off to me (sharp / flat) and required too much effort to play in tune. The upper fret access was great, which is what I was looking for as well. The look of the guitar is fantastic, and it is much lighter than it looks ( lighter than my Les Paul ). In the end it just was not for me. Not a bad guitar, just not for me.

Beautiful!

Comments about Dean '79 Series ML with Floyd:

I also had a case ordered with the guitar and they shipped together but in seperate boxes. I was skeptical about this guitar because I had never played one, but I went for it! It came out of the box perfectly set-up and tuned. Plugged it in and started shredding instantly. I had to adjust the pickups since they were very low, and after a bit of fine tuning it's been one of the best guitars I've ever owned (this makes it guitar #9 for me). And of all my axes (gibson/fender/ibanez) this one might be my favorite now. If you're on the fence I'd say go for it! I'm VERY impressed!
The '79 ML has pretty basic features, but has a lot to work with.
Extremely well made and durable!
For the price it's amazing!

Looks great, but...

Comments about Dean '79 Series ML with Floyd:

Pros to this guitar: Has an amazing finish, construction and durability seem pretty well, has nice features for the pricepoint, and stays in tune. Cons to this guitar: The pickups are probably the worst I've ever heard, the guitar is absolutely huge, and due to the radical shape you have to buy a case that is made by dean or for this product, and to add to the bad sound of the pickups, it sounds really bad unplugged too. If i were to give you a general idea of the sound through a review, I would say incredibly boxy, in a very muddy way. So if you do decide to buy this guitar, you'll probably have to change the pickups. This guitar isn't really my cup of tea, and I'm selling it. But with a pickup swap, and if your style suits this type of guitar, then maybe you'll like it. It plays fine, and its got great upper fret access, so what I'm saying is try before you buy.

Bada-da-da-daaa I'm Lovin' it

By Super Camo Man

Comments about Dean '79 Series ML with Floyd:

This guitar is AWESOME. The flame top is beautiful, the neck feels great, the body is comfortable no matter how youre holding it, its well balanced and it definately stands out in a crowd. Buying this guitar is a no-brainer, especially for the price. Mine has a real floyd rose, so i don't know how the licensed one stacks up to it, but everything else that's stock is solid. Even the pickups are surprisingly good. I love this guitar.

Updating My Review

By Metal Santana-A8.-R

from Girard, GA

Comments about Dean '79 Series ML with Floyd:

This guitar, out of the box, isnt all that amazing. You have to get it setup, and blah blah... but after that, its amazing! the Floyd is Licensed, but stays in tune realtivly well, that is, if u dont mess up the bolts on the nut like I did.I got new bolts and stays in tune for weeks, and i play every day for at least 2hrs. The frettboard is amazing and neck is extremely fast; great upper frett access. I think the neck is C shaped, but the specs dont specify. The pickups sound pretty mediocre, but they're pretty good, if u like jazz and similar genres. i personally like metal, so i bought some duncans (SH14 Custom 5 in the birdge; PG1 Pearly Gates in the neck)I sold my Line 6 For a Randall RX120RH and RX412 half stack and the sound is abosulte amazing! I also use a metalcore pedal, and my sound has never been better.I bought an Original Floyd and the sound and tune-keep are better than the licensed floyd ever were! Tremsetter helps alot too.-E-mail me if you've got any questions.

Comments about Dean '79 Series ML with Floyd:

after a few hours of bugging my dad to take me to the music store, he finaly gave in and took me. i had been looking to buy a dean for a few years now, and this summer ill have a job so i can buy one. its taken me a long time to choose what guitar ive wanted but once i saw this, i knew it was mine. this was the most comfortable guitar ive ever played. it was fast smooth and beautiful. ill be picking up 2 guitars, and im stuck on what to get as another, so im thinking of getting the Black one as a main, and the Trans Braz. with a string thru body as a secondary

very good for the price

Comments about Dean '79 Series ML with Floyd:

I've had this guitar for about 2 years now. It's an ok guitar with a lot of potential stock. The licensed floyd is pretty bad; it didn't stay in tune too well, and I couldn't even turn the fine tuners on mine. Also, if you can, you should probably buy this in person because some have terrible back cavity with Floyd bushing showing. I have made some changes like swapping the LFR to OFR and changing the pickups, and now this thing is a joy to play. Fast neck, great upper fret access, great sound, and bada** looks that constantly gets compliments. I still plan on getting a full refret done with Dunlop 6100, the stock frets are a bit small for my liking.

Insane!

Comments about Dean '79 Series ML with Floyd:

Its a great guitar, even before You Get it setup. I've had it for around 3days so far, and I feels like it just gets better! I play it out my Line 6 Spider Amp, and it's got beautiful tone, especially if your into Distortion (Metal, Alt, ect) I've no complaintsby the way, It's true, It's WAY more beautiful in person!I've been to a few guitar stores and played ESP's Gibsons and Fender, they're all great, but the tone just didn't hit me like this one did

Loyal Dean Lover

By musicman42279

Comments about Dean '79 Series ML with Floyd:

I have owned this guitar for several months and I have to say it is a nice guitar. I havent had it setup yet so I hope it will only get better. I love the feel very heavy and solid. The pickups are not great but decent the action is low but has a little buzz the finish is flawless the color is fantastic overall its everything I would expect out of a guitar that cost 3 times as much. I have owed many deans including the custom 450 which was nice but nothing in comparison this is an excellent guitar for anyone beginner to rockstar. Oh it would have been nicer with a bound headstock but thats just being picky .
