I play all kinds of rock and use a Carvin Legacy and a Line6 Spider with lots of effects. The guitar has a sharp cutting sound, very tightly focused and great for power chords and solos. Nice guitar for shredders and metal fans. Very deep dark tone but highly concentrated. Unreal sustain. Would NOT be good for playing stuff like U2 or The Cure since the guitar does not have a big ringing sound, and would not be good for punk since it does not have a raspy voice. Like I say this guitar is for power and solos. The neck very sleek and fast. The guitar was set up nicely right out of the box. Very comfortable guitar to play. Good quality tuners. High standards of craftmanship-no rough frets or finish flaws. The bridge pickup is kinda generic but the neck pickup is glassy, sweet and smooth. It has a elegant sound, very modern. This is not just a good budget guitar, its a nice guitar period. It also looks evil, the pictures do not do it justice.

I got this beast in high school. I'm still playing it six years later, but before you grab it consider:- Like many, I got it for the arch-top mahogany... very les paul style. The similarities end in the body.- The fretboard/action are nothing like even a good epiphone. - The pickup jack has been wiggling for a while now. I've fixed it, but a rattling sound keeps coming back to haunt me.- The twin-blade pickups are nifty, but won't give you the bright tone of other humbuckers. The sustain is fabulous. It can take a beating. I recommend it for people on a serious budget, otherwise find yourself a higher end epi or a lower end gibson.

pretty good.

My girlfriend just bought one of these, and I was actually impressed by it's playability and tone. I wasn't expecting much, but this definitely beat my expectations. With the mahogany body and set maple neck, it has good tone. It's thinner than a regular LP, but it's still beefy when it comes to tone. The pickups are lacking, I suggest you set aside some funds to replace them, because no matter how much tweaking I did with my amp, they still sounded muddy. It stayed in tune well. she had a 13-56 GHS set on it, and after it was set-up, and I tuned it to B standard, it was lethal. I would recommend it, definitely worth the money.

A great guitar for a great price.

I was unsure if I would like this guitar when I bought it, but when I plugged it in to my 5150 halfstack I was suprised. The sound of it is almost scary. Whether you play rock or country this guitar will not disappoint.

Perfect upgrade

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

I got this guitar to upgrade from a peavey raptor. I've had the raptor for 2 years, it finaly died. I first looked into this guitar because I saw Trent Reznor play, and destroy one on stage. I was hesitant to purchase one because I saw how many Trent was burning through... I assumed because of the price, it was cost effient to destroy these and not the les pauls. After trying alot of guitars, I kept going back to the evo noir, for the price - and contruction its the best buy available. The pick ups are amazng, it plays like a very high end guitar. Its night and day between the Evo and anything else in its price range. Of course, its not a Les Paul - but close enough. Dean has a fantastic product.

Solid guitar for the price

By MetalG78

from Cortland, NY

I've been playing for about fifteen years now, and have played all kinds of guitars. By far, this is the best guitar I've found for this price - it kills the American made strat I used to own (Which was 2 times the cost in 97)! Stays in tune great no matter how hard I pound on it. The pick-ups are decent but could be replaced with some EMGs. My only complaint is that the finish is virtually impossible to keep clean - that black gloss shows every bit of dust in the air. Overall, a very solid guitar for beginners or those (like me) looking to pick up a guitar again after several years off. My kudos to Dean for making such an affordable, attractive, and playable instrument. Definitely an instrument that makes me want to play hard and good, feels much better than the price would lead you to believe.

Best guitar for the price!

By GuitarGuru23

Beauty, quality, value, This guitar has to be the best deal for the price! When you begin playing you will notice the quality and can trick anyone (guitar guru's or not) that you paid $1,000 for this awesome axe. I had an american fender stratocaster and I believe this sounds way better. The design is awesome and the triple black finish looks incredible. The no inlays on the fretboard will take time getting use to if your not an expert but not at all a big deal. If your looking at guitar for this price range, you would be hardpress to find a deal that even comes close to the EVO NOIR, and if your a NIN fans thats iceing on the cake.( Reznor plays this guitar live)

Shredder

By Marshallman123

from Bllomington, IN

This is a sweet guitar. My friend got this guitar i got to play it. And man, did it play! This guitar almost does the playing for you, and your just along for the ride. Although this an awesome guitar, it costs a little bit too much. But besides that, it's a great guitar. I salute Dean, for another great shredder.

For anyone!

By Dzkiewiczski

from Huntsville, Al

I got the guitar about 4 months ago and have only had minor problems. I only had two problems with the input jack and the guitar staying in tune but that was easily fixed. If you have some extra cash put some emgs or seymor and duncans on this thing and you will be set for life. Buy it!

This guitar rocks, but you have to get EMG's to really bring out the sickness.

I LOVE THIS GUITAR!!!!

By DS-v2Gvd

I love this guitar. I have had it for about 5-6 years. It was called the EVO Phantom when I bought it at a local guitar shop. Originally I was going to purchase a Gibson Les Paul Gothic series, I was testing out a few of them and they were located on the high racks so I accidentally picked the EVO with the Gothic Les Pauls. I was blown away the neck was amazing the pickups were hot and the looks were killer. Hands down it blew away the Gibson and the price was an added bonus. The only thing that I have done is changed out the bridge pickup, the original was great but I needed a more aggressive higher output sound. Just a personal choice... you can't go wrong with this baby.

AMAZING

By tbubb1

from Maryland

I've been drooling over this delicious-looking guitar for a few months, and now I finally have it in my hands.Affordable, and amazing. Very easy to play, sounds great. Pinch harmonics are very very easy to do with my VOX amp and this beauty.Like others are saying, it is a bit heavy, but that shouldn't deter you from buying this guitar in the least. It's FLAWLESS.Though I think it's a beautiful guitar, I'm possitive I'll be throwing it around on stage quite often--it sounds so good you can't help but really getting into what you're doing. THANKS DEAN /m/

Metal machine

By Bren10

This guitar is a metal machine. This guitar is clear and musical through even the most hardcore "Dual Rec" grind. Also, it sounds great clean but the lack of separate tone controls is a drag in that instance.

Still a bruiser

By Garrett:::DeAdNoTe

from Salem,Oregon

Ive been playing my Phantom for years now. It has continuously been there for me as a solid and studio grade performer. It is the favorite of all my electrics. I am planning to buy a new one just as a backup because none of my other guitars have its feel and sound. 2 hell with the Les Paul (Over priced and overated.)Dean got it right with this one. Plus I dig that Trent Reznor is using them on tour now, im a huge NiN fan. later rockers.

Evo is all you need

By Shane Phillips

I just received the evo the other day, re-strung it with some ernie ball heavy bottoms, drop tuned it to c and it freaking screams!! I am used to playing my warlock, so this guitar feels very small in comparison to the warlock. It is a bit heavy, but it dosn't bother me. Dean, this guitar is perfect!! I recommend this guitar to anyone who dosn't want to fork out a bunch of cash and wants quality at the same time!!

Great Guitar

I love this guitar. The tone knob is the most brutal I've ever seen. It's solid, and heavy, and I didn't even have to replace the pickups as I originally planned. I just might buy more Deans after this.

All the Darkness You Need

By Zero the Hero

from Salem, OR

See all my reviews

This guitar is basically a sleek, modern, ultra-hot Les Paul style guitar. It is a very dark, sinister looking axe and the pictures do not do it justice. The neck is the fastest and most comfortable I've ever played. This guitar is a lead players dream. The sustain is incredible and the pickups are very high output; they can hang with EMGs. Unless you are a pro you will not need to replace the pickups. The guitar has a rich, complex, penetrating lead sound. If I knew the guitar was this good I would have got a nicer case for it!

Dean evo pantom

I've been playing guitar for about 13 years now and I've finally found a guitar that has all the premium qualities I've been looking for in a guitar at a poor man's price. this guitar is awesome and I would recommend it to any professional guitarist who doesn't have much to spend but want all the qualities of a top notch guitar. its more versitile than all my les pauls and gives powerful tone at all volumes for all styles of music from classical to metal.

Pretty damned good guitar

By TAZ-kNkNE

When I got mine I was just a bit skeptical because it is one of the lower end deans but it is without a doubt the best guitar for the price. What I love about this guitar over Gibson Les Pauls is the upper fret access. You can get all the way to the very last fret without having that annoying LP heel in the way. It is equal with my Epiphone 2005 Les Paul custom with EMG's, you know from that new guitar a month thing. Well I just wish it had the standard LP controls Vol/Vol/Tone/Tone 3 way switcher. Buy this guitar seriously.
