For a beginner, doing chords and bends for the first time seems to be easy and scares me! Getting comments from the other rooms in the house like, "Hey...you're really getting good!"
Yet, I know it's the electric guitar that should take all the credit.
Wasn't sure such a reasonably priced guitar would sound this good, but, IT DOES!!!

This guitar is a great plays to start out, have as an extra or for a recreational player.
Solid construction, nice feel, great tone. We're not talking about the finest hand craftsmanhip, but we also not talking about a mess. It is well built, and is an excellent guitar for a beginner or for someone like me who likes to have a guitar around but isn't going to be making a living with it. That being said, I also wouldn't have any problems seeing this as a guitar that gets used extensively for gigging.
This is my second Dean item and they have both been fantastic. My first Dean cost significantly more than this, but plays and sounds just as good. There are not a lot of bells and whistles but what is included works well, and sounds great. It is a very good buy.

Comments about Dean Evo XM Electric Guitar:

Arrived in good packaging, and in good condition, however found a few problems in the raw quality of manufacture and QA. First, it was not set up well, ultimately needing a complete setup (action, truss rod, pickup height & pole pieces, tuners etc..). Second, the neck was bolted on crooked (slightly to the left) had to re-seat/straighten using a shim.. the neck pocket was cut too wide. Next, the intonation was waaaay off.. Then, the frets needed to be leveled from poor installation, had lots of high/low spots!! In addition, frets had rough edges, had to round and polish them….it's worth mentioning the tops of the frets came very rough ground- like Dean filed them but didn't fine-sand or polish....Finally, the body finish is lame- Dean used some sort of lacquer stained brown, but looks sad over the low quality basswood body……not anything like the pictures online.
On to the good aspects….. After all the work, the guitar plays fantastic, and sounds awesome- The bridge pickup is notable as it is HOT!! Measured @ 18.2 DCR which is high output- and it sounds great also- heavy on the treble and mid, slightly lacking in bass. The neck plays fast and the fret board is a very nice, thick slab cut rosewood. The frets (after being leveled and highly polished) are wonderful- smooth and silky, making bending easy! The body is light and thin, very comfortable. The shape of the neck reminds me of a Fender Strat, sort of C shaped and a bit on the chunky side, but feels nice to play. The electronics are also spot on- very quiet and well shielded, so you won't be bothered by hum from rouge RF.
Overall the guitar needed the equivalent of around 100 of work and adjustments, but after- it turned out to be a real nice instrument. I think Dean cuts lots of corners to speed up production and put out a dirt cheep product- was under 120 but needed 100 of work to make it excellent—I would have rather paid 220 to receive the guitar finished proper! Something to think about before buying!

Comments about Dean Evo XM Electric Guitar:

You can't expect any guitar at this price point to sound great. You can't expect any guitar with a bolt on neck to sound great. You can't expect any guitar with a basswood body to sound great. But this guitar is definitely worth the tiny bit I paid for it. It stays in tune, the frets don't have any sharp edges, the action is not high. It may sound better if I changed the pickups, but most guitarists like to try out different pickups, so that's not a big deal. The important thing is that this is comfortable to practice on at home, which is a big expectation for a guitar at this price point

Comments about Dean Evo XM Electric Guitar:

This was the fist guitar I ever purchased myself so right out of the gate I had very high hopes for this work horse. Affordable is definitely an understatement, took right around two weeks to save up money from cutting grass to get this heading my way. ( Fourteen year old priorities ) For this price of this Dean it isn't like you'd be expecting a Gibson quality built weapon. The construction is probably the most negative issue, specifically the bolt on neck construction. Fret buzz was very noticeable on any amp setting or just picking around unplugged. Another hardware problem I had was the volume nobs came off within about a monthly of regularly playing this piece. The pros of the EVO for me were the sturdiness of the neck, despite the bolt on configuration playing chunky chords had a very powerful feel and sound in small venues. Pretty decent for jamming, practices and small/ school sized events. Easily a great choice for a novice guitarist willing to put in the time and effort of the next level of playing and recording. A WORK HORSE TO BE RECKONED WITH

Hats off to Budget Dean Guitar

Comments about Dean Evo XM Electric Guitar:

Purchased just before a sale. Real guitarists who've played it gave it a thumbs up. One of tone nobs isn't super secure but hasn't came off. It's a little slippery to hold when your practicing on a stool so get a solid strap to insure it doesn't slide out on you. I was surprised how heavy it was but then its been 35 years since I held a solid body electric. It didn't need any adjusting, holds tune and for a beginner it would make sense if they received one like it. Dean's got their act together on this one.

Comments about Dean Evo XM Electric Guitar:

This guitar is a lot nicer than I expected considering what the price is. The construction is solid and it feels great. The only reason I knocked it down a star is the fret issue that others have mentioned. I've had the guitar for a day and my left index and middle fingers are all cut up from the sharp frets. Keep in mind when buying this that you'll most likely have to get them filed down. That is my only complaint. You won't find another guitar at this price that competes with this one.

Comments about Dean Evo XM Electric Guitar:

Get one of these and a Grover Perfect Guitar Nut, raise the pickups as high as you can, turn the volume and tone all the way up, pair it with a cheap, sleazy amp and maybe your favorite squawky wah, and you have a truly nasty, greasy, slide machine. You won't play anything on it other than slide, but you won't want to.

      Seriously. Trust me on this.

Comments about Dean Evo XM Electric Guitar:

I move around a lot and am tired of losing valuable equipment. I bought this guitar to write and flesh out new material and to be more to the point, I was surprised. Considering the price little work is needed to get this guitar sounding great on the peavey vypyr vip1 I bought strictly to accompany it. Worst feature is the frets are rough and need filed, so be warned on that end. A little tweaking on the modeling amp and this guitar sounds like a much more expensive model.

The Shop that did the Set-up was able to do it. The Musician's Friend Folks were outstanding on their return policy. The Folks I dealt with were knowledgeable and professional. They put up with my persistence to get a working, useable guitar. I would use these Folks again and recommend them to others. Not because the quality of the Dean Product but because of their People and return policy. They paid far more in shipping for the 3 returns than I did for the Guitar.

Comments about Dean Evo XM Electric Guitar:

First off, i have to say if i say anything negative, it should be taken with a grain of salt because in its price range, this is a great guitar.

Right out of the box, i found the color not matching the image, however personally i found its true color pleasing. The guitar has a comfortable feel, not overly heavy, but not cheap feeling either. The neck feels comfortable, the tuners generally stay well in tune. i like the adjustable bridge, its a nice feature. The tone control is decently dynamic. the selector is a bit sticky sometimes, and that can become annoying. Also i find that the pickups are a bit close in range so as not to give the greatest differentiation, but still, its not an expensive guitar.

So all in all, i recommend this model for the price, it has a good sound and i find it pleasing. it also has a lot of potential. I made just go crazy and drop some P-90's in there, who knows. lol :) great for starter, or just a base for a custom.

When I first played the plastic holding the frets in poke out on the neck scratching my hand then as I play some notes some of the frets touch the sting I will be returning the guitar to replace it to see if it was just a defect or if they just make the guitar like that also UPS came the product was extremely cold which warps the neck they need to get a courier service that has a heated carrier
