This is my first Dean guitar and, I am pleased with it. A friend purchased another model of a Dean and, brought it to me and, asked me to check it over and, set it up. I thought this would be a good chance to check one out even thought it was a lower priced model. Afew adjustments, new strings and, a good cleaning and, into an amp and, I was quite pleased with the sound, playability and overall function of the guitar. I can't believe that I overlooked this brand of guitar over the years so now I have an Explorer copy that I'm quite happy with and, I'm checking out a MS model of a V and, I may get one of these also. My Grandaughter insisted that she be in the picture, she says it's her guitar and, in years to come it may be!

This is the second ZX I have owned and I will say there is a huge difference in quality between the two. I understand this is a lower priced guitar but that doesn't mean it should be made as cheap as possible. My first ZX (which I bought in 08) seemed like it was built much better than the one I just bought. The first had Grover tuners, a slimmer neck and just felt like a more solid guitar overall. This new one is not terrible but to say I wasn't a little disappointed with the quality would be a lie. I will still play it and make it my own but it is just sad to see quality taking a backseat to quantity.

DEANO

Comments about Dean Z-X Electric Guitar:

Deano. That's what I call my brazilian burst z. Bought this thing 3 years ago and has been my priamry axe every since. Like any guitar. You have a few bugs to work out when you first get it. Pick up height, play action, little things like that. This guitar has played countless shows and been played the hell out of. A little wear on it is startin to show on it. Think I am gonna put some Seymour Ducans in it maybe a new neck. I feel this guitar is well worth keeping going. This is a great deal for a good guitar. It will do all you want it to. From metal to blues. Highly reccommended.

Dean ZX

Comments about Dean Z-X Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar with the full intention of rebuilding it. It was super inexpensive and gave me a good base to work with. Right out of the box it was beautiful. I changed the strings to Nickel Rockers (10s), stretched them, and plugged it in. No problem at all with the electronics. The body is basswood (a softwood). It further proves what some Luthiers have been trying to tell us for years: hardwood is not needed for sustain in a solid body electric. I played notes and chords that seemed to sing forever until I muted them. The tone was great also. I reshaped the headstock to get rid of the excess wood that Dean uses on their V shaped headstocks way past the tuning machines. The neck is off of the guitar waiting for the backside to be painted black fading into red to match the body and then clear coated. If you buy this guitar keep in mind that it will sound great, it has a great neck, but it will need a complete setup before it is completely playable: action at the nut, truss rod adjustment and neck relief, action at the 17th fret (done at the bridge), and pickup height adjustment. None of this is uncommon. You can do it your self or have it done, and you will have a great guitar.

great guitar

Comments about Dean Z-X Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar back in 2005 and I gotta tell ya I was blown away. The pick ups in it are very nice for the price range. I also like the tonal quality of the wood. I use this guitar through a crate GT1200H 120 watt head and a fender bandmaster cabinet with EV speakers when I'm on stage and this guitar absolutely screams. I would recommend he dean zx to anyone.

The Low Down

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

Comments about Dean Z-X Electric Guitar:

I've plugged into a "Dean Z-X" for many years now.I've used it in the studio for plenty of years, and let me tell you this guitar can do anything. The Zebra pick-ups are made by dean and sound staggering with a sweet distortion. The grover tuners are incredible and are reliable for well over a week.Although the strap buttons tend to slip, it's nothing strap locks cant fix.The neck feels slim when it's sanded. This mighty axe can play anything from the sweet smooth funk of g.love all the way to the gut thrashing metal of slipknot. i would strongly recomend you purchase this guitar if your begining. trust me im a pro

Comments about Dean Z-X Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar back in 2000 I needed a new guitar fast and cheap. This fit what I needed and was very pleased with what I got It was a little more expensive back then and the pick up mounts are black and not cream. I played it for years till I sold it to buy a new amp head. It played great stayed in tune and never let me down. I am thinking of buying another one If your looking for a good guitar with a thick metal tone without spending a lot of money here is a good axe to look into

OH. EM. EFF. GEE. It's awesome

Comments about Dean Z-X Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar as my fourth (had a Peavy Predator, an Epi Les Paul and a 1958 Yamaha C-40) and I have to say it's on par with many Gibsons I've played, sustain may not be a day long but it's pretty long. Epic playability, but it could come with something more like an Ebony fretboard, but it's a bolt on so I can replace that eventually. Cost to value ratio: 7 of 5, better than a Gibson. Pickups rock, nice throaty roar on the Rhythm and a higher mid roar on the treble, with a mean pinch harm. This is one of the most comfortable guitars I've owned, and looks killer. although, check your intonation when you get it, mine came in a little off.
