OVERVIEW

Warm, woody tones for a tiny price.

The Epiphone AJ-100CE Acoustic-Electric Guitar brings the look and sound of the Advanced Jumbo to everyone. Guitar comes with standard AJ features such as a select spruce top, mahogany back and sides, and a rosewood fingerboard. The AJ-100CE includes a cutaway body style and the Nanoflex pickup for electric amplification.

NanoFlex pickup
The term "Nanoflex" refers to its ultra thin (nano-like) profile and its flexibility that allows it to conform to any surface shape. This assures complete guitar-to-pickup-to-saddle contact. Unlike other undersaddle pickups, the Nanoflex design utilizes 7 highly-sensitive and ultraresponsive layers of sensor material to not only sense the vibrations of the strings but the vibrations of the guitar body as well. The Nanoflex is the first pickup to incorporate active amplification directly at the pickup. As a result, the signal does not pass through even a single millimeter of the wire and therefore, the signal quality is uncompromised.

FEATURES
  • Mahogany body
  • Select spruce top
  • Set mahogany neck
  • Nanoflex pickup under the saddle and endpin jack
  • Rosewood fingerboard with dot inlay
  • Chrome hardware
  • 25.5" scale

Good guitar, cheap electronics.
I have several Epiphone and Gibson guitars, and I have played guitar and pedal steel for nearly 40 years. This one has a very good acoustic sound, however the electronics are a little on the cheap side. The sound is very tinny with very little bass quality and there is no way to adjust it except for the controls on the amp. Overall, it is a good instrument, I just wish Epiphone would put more into the electronics. I bought an EJ 200CE about 2 years ago and had the same problem until I replaced the control panel and one of the pickups. I will eventually upgrade the electronics on this guitar.
Overall quality of the guitar itself is very good. I will adjust the action to be more like a Gibson though by lowering the bridge about 1/64"
If you are using this guitar acoustically, it is a good value with very good acoustic sound.

I bought this guitar about a year ago, and straight out of the box, three of the tuning keys when played, rattle. The three highest strings to be exact. Whether I am playing on g b or e the tuners still rattle. I can play one stroke of the low e and the tuners will still rattle. I'm not very pleased with this guitar. For the money, I guess its not too horrible though. It has good sound and projection, but fyi, i did remove the tuner keys from the guitar to tighten them and they still rattle. If I were you I wouldn't risk it. I have played the straight unelectric acoustic epiphone aj and two of the highest tuner keys rattle on that as well. Go with the rogue, you'll be much more satisfied. Or if your looking for just a guitar to play around with, look up the goldfish guitars. They sell two with a speaker in them. Fun little guitars to play if I do say so myself, and they perform.

Comments about Epiphone AJ-100CE Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Needed an inexpensive guitar to learn on. After adjusting the truss rod to get rid of fret buzz, the guitar plays well and sounds very good for such an inexpensive guitar. Have not really used plugged in but will reserve judgement on their electronics-- nothing to adjust, just a plug in. I could not tell that this wasn't new, so mint condition was an apt description. Epiphone makes good inexpensive guitars.

Comments about Epiphone AJ-100CE Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

The specs never mentioned scaloped struts. Really opens it up. Neck is straight frets level. The only thing I did was shim the saddle 1/16 inch. Deep rich tone. Plugged in it's plenty strong and true although an eq helps. Fast delivery especially for the holidays.

Comments about Epiphone AJ-100CE Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Epiphone did a great job with this model. I wanted an affordable acoustic/electric I could possibly gig with and not have to worry about as much. This guitar fits the bill. As a musician who's dabbled in guitar, bass, keyboards, and played a number of high end guitars I can say this is a pro-quality instrument. I wouldn't hesitate to gig out with this tomorrow with the factory setup. My father who owns several expensive electric guitars including a PRS and Jeff Beck American Strat picked it up and was impressed with how well it played. Bottom line; if you can't make this sound good you can't make a Martin D-28 sound good, period. Lets say a Martin D-28 is the Cadillac of guitars, well this is the Toyota of guitars. If you can't drive worth anything, you don't deserve a Cadillac in the first place!

Comments about Epiphone AJ-100CE Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Great sounding guitar. Great for someone starting out and wands a big bright sound. As a player for many years I find the upper frets buzzing even after setting it up by myself and a tec afterwards to make sure. I find that the strings is on a very high tension which makes bending a killer. Besides these downsides its agree at guitar for the price.

Comments about Epiphone AJ-100CE Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I bought the AJ-100CE and the case (alson made by Epiphone) during the same purchase so my guitar came packed in the case. This guitar is big! Perfect for a big guy. After tuning the guitar everything played perfectly fine, right out of the box. I found no flaws in the finish or craftsmanship. I have two older acoustic OM style guitars and the sound from this one is a lot brighter and considerably louder. I will be changing out the strings for something a little less "jangly" sounding.
I'll be using it primarily for leading our youth group in praise in worship and figured since we plug into a mixer at church the lack of EQ on the guitar won't be a problem. It will also come in handy for those trips that have an "unplugged" atmosphere, like camping in the summer or the cabin for skiing this winter.

I was very pleasantly surprised with the quality of both the workmanship and the playability of this incredibly priced axe. The neck had a slight bow in it (but was easily adjusted with the included allen wrench). I've been through the gamut of "cheap" instruments, but this beauty stands alone as a ready to play topper! From the practice room to the stage the AJ100-ce fits perfectly. I would recommend this instrument to anybody from hobbyist to professional.

The guitar was in need of an adjustment to the neck and could not be fretted. I had to travel 35 miles and spend money to have it adjusted. I could have bought this item locally with no problems with the merchandise. The money and time I had to spend made this item overpriced.

Comments about Epiphone AJ-100CE Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Plays really well, and has a nice warm tone, and good volume and projection. Has binding around the edges and a Gibson style truss rod cover on the headstock. I don't like that stylized 'E' on the pickguard but I imagine the it will wear off over time. The neck feels really nice and plays well, has good action and smooth fret ends. The angled headstock keeps the guitar in tune well and looks nice too. The guitar sounds good plugged in, so if you're going to play gigs it works for that. I do wish that it had a built in EQ and volume, but it has none of that, just a peizo pickup and an output jack. I don't play plugged in very often so it's not a big factor for me. The output jack is built into the Strap pin, which I like, and there is a strap pin on the heel of the guitar neck. I definitely recommend this guitar, especially if you're on a budget, or want a guitar that you don't want to worry about getting beat up.

Comments about Epiphone AJ-100CE Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I received this guitar as a Christmas gift. As I opened the box, my son. an adult, remarked on how shiny it was. After almost a month of playing, I am pleased with the gift. After changing strings and adding brass saddle pins, the sound of this budget guitar came alive. The action was good out of the box, and so playability was not a problem. The quality of such a low-priced guitar is amazing, though I did find one tiny flaw that does not in any way affect playability. I especially love the cutaway on this model- I found my fingers going places in the upper frets that I have always dreamed of going but never could because of the rounded bouts on my other acoustics.

Like others who have reviewed this model, I found the lack of an on-board EQ a bit puzzling. I remedied this situation by purchasing a Behringer V-Tone Acoustic ADI 21 DI box, which acts as an tone/level controller. The V-Tone ADI 21 works well, and, like the guitar, didn't cost an arm and a leg. This combination affords me the flexibility I need for recording, which is my main application, aside from songwriting.

I have always been partial to the Epiphone brand (in all, I have previously owned over ten Epiphone guitars, and currently own six) and this inexpensive model packs a lot of value. Great for a beginner or the intermediate player looking for an extra strumming guitar. I am very happy with this guitar.
