Hard to bea. The tone is acually pretty good. Not muddy, as long as you adjust the pickups and compensate the individual screws for even volume. Finish looks good but frets need some leveling. All in all, it's a good buy. Very pretty finish and the sunburst goes well with the gold hardware.
All the features you'd expect. Normal Les Paul wiring and Grover tuners.
Surprizingly good, but not "Deluxe". Frets need a bit of leveling and intonation was off, but that's an easy fix. The frets, not so much. Like the Grover tuners.
Got it on sale. Pretty good for what I paid.

Overall this guitar is great! The touch, intonation, visual appeal, sound, etc... everything is all you could want from a guitar. Coming straight out of the box the first things you notice are the beautiful flame maple top (with vintage sunburst), the attractive looking gold machine heads, bridge, humbuckers, etc., and that iconic Epiphone "E" logo on the pickguard. This guitar has become my go to guitar now and is a main part of my setup...and I would incourage you to make it part of yours too.
This guitar is just beautiful... from the old school Epiphone logo on the headstock, to the beautiful flametop maple body, to that iconic Epiphone "E" logo. Everything on this guitar makes you question if this is really an Epiphone or a Gibson in disguise. The gold humbuckers on the flametop maple vintage sunburst body goes beautifully together.
Everything on the guitar works perfectly... and the overall appeal of the guitar is great, though you cant expect the "greatest guitar on earth" seein as tho it is an Epiphone (who's name get's a bad wrap, tho shouldn't)... this guitar's quality exceeded my expectations and it plays as smooth as butter ... only suggestion I would make is probably change out the nut it comes with to maybe a graphite, bone, or other better quality nuts, other than that I'm leaving everythin stock on it.
This guitar is worth every penny! I've played a Gibson ES-335 before and it's a great guitar... if you have a lot to spend, but for the price this guitar is not only great on the wallet, but also gives you a very close match to the Gibson.

Comments about Epiphone Dot Deluxe Flametop Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

Awesome guitar if you immediately put a lock washer on it.
I had severa problems withe output jack. It came very loose and when i plugged in would loosen even more and it came off three times. I had to send it back twice and get it repaired once. Eventually i just got a new guitar. So when u buy this put on a lock washer and tighten it with pliers. Otherwise a great guitar.

Epiphone Dot

By Harrison Sycks

from USA

Comments about Epiphone Dot Deluxe Flametop Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

I rate this guitar a 9. To be honest, i didnt expect much, but when i picked it up it just blew my mind. I actually prefer this guitar to a couple of Gibsons ive played. This guitar can do anything from funk to even metal. Its got a very nice deep, rich tone. The 57 classics really sing and because of this guitar they are my favorite pickups. Its one of those guitars that you dont have to modify at all in any way to get somthing good out of it. I had my eyes on a Gibson les Paul but when i stumbled across this i couldnt help myself. Plus, it was in my price range. This guitar is a great buy.
This guitar has everything you need. 2 tones, 2 volumes, and a pickup selecter. Nothing too tricky. When i picked up the guitar i was surprised at how beautiful the flame was. I almost forgot that it wasnt real wood for a second. I can definatley notice some wearing on the gold hardware though.
The quality of this guitar is very good for an Epiphone. She's survived a of couple drops in a gig bag and a drumstick thrown by an angry drummer.
You cannot beat the price of this guitar for what it is.

Well worth the $

Comments about Epiphone Dot Deluxe Flametop Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

I'm glad I bought the Dot!
Nice sunburst flametop, gold hardware and old style "Epiphone" inlay on headstock. Great tone.
Though made in China, I was quite satisfied with the overall quality. Flametop is gorgeous and finish is very nice. No issues with loose jack, pots or switch like I've read about in other reviews. Only complaint is intonnation on two strings cannot be set perfectly. I suspect it might be due to the plastic nut, but I'm not a luthier and the problem is hardly noticiable. QC setup needed strings lowered and pu's adjusted. Also needed to adjust neck pu because it was resting at an angle inside the mounting ring, in other words it was not seated parallel (level) to the strings. New frets were rough until after the first hour of play. I've never owned a brand new unplayed axe so I didn't know how new frets felt. They're fine now.
Extreme value for the amount I paid Muscians Friend.

Comments about Epiphone Dot Deluxe Flametop Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

Neck was cracked on arrival! Please, MF, use better packaging. The neck wasn't yet actually broken off, so I was able to play it a bit before returning it. Tone was surprisingly good. The flame top was gorgeous, though the pieces weren't properly bookmatched. But there were many little finish details that were missed. Frets were extremely rough, though were smoothed by repeated bending. Yuck. The finish on the neck was so thick and dark, it was impossible to tell it was made of mahogany and not plastic.I expect to give every new guitar a complete setup, but this one was going to require a full fret dress, as there were multiple high frets.I know it's only a [$] guitar, but it costs just a little less than a MIM Fender, and they're finished much better.Which leads to my conclusion that these ES-335 style guitars are more difficult to build correctly, and the bottom end of the price range should be avoided.I would consider a Sheraton II. They appear to be built much better. It's not just more "bling". Same electronics and hardware. More attention to detail. Better wood.

    My Favorite Guitar

    By Chris Caccamise

    from Ventura, CA

Comments about Epiphone Dot Deluxe Flametop Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

I traded my previous bandmate my Boss GT 8 processer for this. So glad that I did. I don't know how long he had had it before it came into my posession, but it still plays great. The only thing is, because it is a used guitar, there is minor scratches here and there, some of the hardware is beginning to look a little shotty, and the previous owner took the pickguard off. No big deal though, and of course, that has nothing to do with Epiphone. Overall, I love this guitar. When distorted, the bridge pickup has a nice crunchy bite to it and the neck pickup is super warm and great for bluesy leads. When clean, the neck pickup sounds great for jazz. If you're thinking about it, I say go for it. But it's always safe to try one out first, and if you do get the occasional, over-looked guitar from the factory, keep the packaging and send it back for another. I'm pretty sure you will be pleased with this.
Everything works great and as it should. Stock pickups are sweet!
Out of all the guitars I own, this is by far my favorite. It's dream to play.
Amazing guitar for the price! I played one of the super expensive Gibson ES 335 at Guitar Center and I like this better. Granted, the strings on the Gibson were dead, but still, this things holds up real nice compared to Gibson.

Comments about Epiphone Dot Deluxe Flametop Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

A great looking, playing and sounding guitar at a rediculous low price. I always wanted a 335 but couldn't justify spending thousands of dollars since I don't play in a band, just play for a hobby. I have 2 strats and a vintage 64 Firebird reverse. Now I have a new addition to my guitar family for which I am very satisfied.
This Dot has the standard pickup and 3-way switch with gold plating on the pu's, tuners, bridge and tail piece. The flame top and sunburst is gorgious. The headstock with the classic Epihone inlay looks great.
I was a bit anxious about the quality because this guitar is made in China. I was very surprised to find very little to complain about. Stock setup was needing some minor changes to string height and intonnation settings. Still cannot get the G string perfect (is slightly sharp when fretted) but is not very noticeable.
    Couldn't pass this one up.

One Of The Best Bargains Out There

    By Dale Bryant

    from Hollywood Florida

    See all my reviews

Comments about Epiphone Dot Deluxe Flametop Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

Aside from the terrible setup, scratchy tone pot, and bleed of black f-hole paint past the edges, this is, in my opinion, one of the best bargains out there. A really fantastic sounding guitar from the factory with a gorgeous flametop finish, and with a little benchtime I'm sure it will be a nice playing guitar, too. The build and materials are not Gibson quality, but surely no one would expect them to be for the price. Nonetheless, I still can't get over the sound of this guitar for the price.
I gave "features" a 10 because I don't want a robot guitar. If I wanted one, you know, a guitar with midi out or a self-straightening neck system or digital intonation correction when it goes out of tune, I wouldn't be buying this one, would I? It has the features I wanted and expected.
There are two issues here: The quality of the guitar, and the out-of-the-box setup. And for me, a staticy tone knob, too.

The flametop finish is beautiful, except the black around the edges of the f-holes bleeds a little too far onto the top surface. Still, the flame finish is beautiful. The setup from the manufacturer SUCKS! It even has a little tag saying it was setup in the USA by #28. If that's the case, I'd just assume the Chinese set it up at their factories. I want to support U.S.A. labor force, but not if it is crap. Factory setup: The action is WAY high, and I even like my action a little on the high side. This high is just ridiculous, and there is no excuse for it. It makes the guitar really hard to play. Nonetheless, not a permanent flaw or anything.

I gave quality a 9 because the overall sound of this guitar is amazing for the price. My '98 LP Std. is my favorite guitar, and this one sounds really close to the things I love about the LP, and better (by design) in some ways. It has the same "woody" sound when playing clean, with a lot of mid chunk in the neck pickup, and warm-but-clear tones through the neck pu. The overall sound of the semi hollowbody is great, and it really is a great bargain for the price. The stock pickups are great on this and I don't feel the need to change them at all, so I don't plan to. Grover tuners are smooth and one of my favorites. One of the tone knobs scratches when turned, but is otherwise fine. Not thrilled about it, but meh.
In my opinion, one of the best bargains out there. I had all intentions of buying this as my "beater," but now I find myself looking for a hard case to protect it.

But WHY does Epiphone continue to instal super cheap 3 way switches? right out of the box the

MF CS was great in offering a possible solution, but it didn't work. Returns are such a hassle.

Comments about Epiphone Dot Deluxe Flametop Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

If you are considering a DOT at [$], you'd be nuts not to go ahead and get this obvious upgrade. Flametop maple, Groover tuners, all gold hardware w/'57 humbuckers is a pretty sweet combo. I really lucked out on my purchase with a $100 off coupon internet from [@] so a good deal was insane at only [$]. Only tinkering I did when first delivered was I lowered the action more to my liking and took off all the strings and polished the frets with 0000 steel wool to remove a few slight burrs. They are like glass now. It's got a comfortable neck and to be honest, it's not bad to play unplugged as well. Hardly anything to loose sleep over but don't count on the Epi logo staying on the pickguard. Mine lasted about a week and after falling off a few times, I just gave up. Be sure to buy the matching case which is really solid and fits perfectly.

Comments about Epiphone Dot Deluxe Flametop Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

I have had my Dot Deluxe for a couple of years now, purchased it to compliment my American made Strat. Turns out I like the sound of the Dot through my Fender Princeton Chorus amp after an Imminence Copperhead speaker upgrade far better than the Strat. Only problem I had initially was with tuning which was corrected after lubricating the nut slots. You will also need to tighten the nut holding the amp cable plug in. Would like to have the real Gibson version, but for the money invested this is a decent quality guitar at more than a fair price for what you get. Since the Dot Deluxe costs the same as the standard Dot I recommend the Deluxe for the fine maple finish on the front.

Comments about Epiphone Dot Deluxe Flametop Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

I've owned over 30 guitars, some very expensive Les Pauls, some inexpensive Squiers and Epiphones. You generally get what you pay for, but I'll make an exception in this case. The flame maple top is stunning and the tone is rich. I expected to have to swap out pickups as I own guitars with USA '57 Classics, but there is no need. These may be made in Asia, but they are the real deal. Very warm & articulate. Sound like an acoustic clean and really get nasty with high gain - Ted Nugent nasty. Some lower to mid-priced models are high quality (Schecters come to mind), but I have yet to find this quality in a guitar at this price. My Gibson ES-339 is a better guitar, but it cost 5 times as much. You can't go wrong buying this until you become rich and famous. Then you can go get the ES-335 for 3 grand.

    Almost But Not Quite Right...

    By Ted Walkenhorst

    from Missouri

Comments about Epiphone Dot Deluxe Flametop Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

If not for the loose hardware this would be a solid 10 and one of my favorite guitars...
This is a beautiful instrument but the I would really have liked to see a more intense flametop (like in all of the pictures) Mine has about 20-30% of the figuring shown it but is still very beautiful.
The quality of the instrument is exceptional "but" all the the volume and tone pots and the input jack are extremely loose. I fixed all of the pots but it is very annoying and difficult trying to fix the input jack since there's no easy way to keep it securely in place while tightening the paper thin nut that is supposed to secure it... Maybe "securing hardware" should be added to your quality checklist...
From what I hear this is a VERY common Epiphone problem.
Other than the defects mentioned above you can't touch the value.

Comments about Epiphone Dot Deluxe Flametop Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

I just added the Epiphone Dot Deluxe to my collection and it has turned out to be a great blues axe. It is really diverse as far as tone goes--you can go from mellow and smooth to lively twang and all points in between. My one complaint is that the little "E" logo on the pick-guard fell off almost immediately when I started to play the guitar--but it probably looks better without it anyway.

This is a great guitar.Ive wanted a gibson 335 ever since I seen alex lifeson play one.He used them exclusively up until the permanent waves album. But as the years went by I knew I would never be able to afford one...then acouple of years ago I heard about this guitar. The timing was right so I bought one. This axe exceeded all my expectations.Fantastic blues guitar and I was also amazed at how fat sounding it was. Also no feedback problems when using gain and distortion.you can even shred with it.the action is low, fast, and clean.I have a 1986 charvel model 4 which is a beast, but my Edot has more crunch for playing black sabbath and other classic metal. And of course playing old RUSH on it is a blast.
