Ehh looks great, sounds bad

Features:
Quality:

Built well, but really crappy components give it a thin, tinny sound.

Value:

It is cheap, but sounds cheaper.

Overall:

Ok here's the dish. The guitar looks good, and is very pretty. This is all gravy, except it sounds really bad.

I honestly wouldn't recommend this guitar. It has a very thin, cheap, metallic (undesirable metallic) sound that will discourage even beginners. For $330-400 you can definitely find a better beginner's guitar. If you're an intermediate or advanced - you will definitely want to stay away from this.

The Epiphone Dot Semihollow

| Review By: Roger Parker | 1 month, 3 weeks ago

Features:

Standard ES-335 set up.

Quality:

When this guitar arrived at my house, I opened the boxes and was totally blown away! The Cherry finish on this guitar is nothing short of breath taking. I couldn't find a mark on it.

Value:

For not that much money, you get a very well built, solid feeling, sweet sounding guitar.

Overall:

I wasn't sure how much I'd like a Gibson style semi without neck binding but I have to tell you, this guitar has grown on me a lot. When I first played the guitar, the action was pretty high but the nut and bridge radius were cut very well. I opened up the nut slots just a hair with my nut files because they were binding just a little on the bottom. I also adjusted the truss rod to straighten out the neck more. The truss rod in this particular guitar tightens up pretty quickly so the next time it needs an adjustment, I'll work it back and forth a few times to see if that helps. I'm not going to complain though because I got the action just where I want it. I also had to hit the sides of the finger board with a 3M 320 grit fine sanding block to get rid of some sharp fret edges. In Epiphones' defense I have to tell you that the guitar didn't arrive that way. What caused it was changing weather conditions and the heat kicking on drying the finger board out. I should have run a humidifier.

AMAZINGLY AMAZING!!!!!!!!!

Features:

I bought the Cherry one, and it is one of the best guitars i have ever played under $1000.   The stock humbuckers sound good, and the guitar can be rather loud acoustically too!

Quality:

This guitar is durable and definitely well built. I have never had any issues with it except for having to adjust the bridge and the intonation, which was easy due to the tune-o-matic bridge, which also allows  for quick and easy string changing as well.

Value:

This guitar is a gibson with an epiphone headstock. If i had to price it i would not sell it for under $1000 bucks.  It is that good!

Overall:

Buy it.  You will be more than satisfied. The versatility is incredible,  and the picture doesnt do it justice.  I have the cherry one, and the color is really like a dark red, not like the pinkish red on the picture.  If you want a semihollow body guitar and cant afford a gibson, buy this guitar!

Solid & a Steal!

Features:

Overall, in my opinion this is the best guitar out there for under $1k. Great body, very good electronics. Of course when you are not getting a custom shop guitar you should expect to restring it and set it up when you get it. But I've let plenty of American guitars sit under the couch while I play this one. I use Vox and Fender amps, and a pile of pedals.

Features are standard ES-335 offering.

Quality:

Couldn't expect more for the money. I have two -- on on of them the nut cracked -- but I know that's a rare fluke and I happilly uprgraded it anyway.

Value:

Wait for a sale and they're practicially giving them away! Why didn't I get a couple of these earlier?

Overall:

See above, then add to cart.
