Epiphone DR-100 acoustic guitar

| Review By: Nancy Reisert | 1 month, 4 days ago

Features:

The guitar is well worth the money spent for beginner guitar lessons.  My only complaint is that I noticed the guitar strings looked a bit worn.  I will most likely upgrade the strings in the near future.

Quality:

I like the sound of this guitar as for beginning lessons.  I haven't really played the most expensive guitars to be a critic.  This guitar has a very decent sound quality.

Value:

No complaints

Overall:

The guitar is well made and sounds better then most beginner guitars

The one I can take anywhere

| Review By: Austin Mann | 1 month, 2 weeks ago

2 people out of 2 found this review helpful

Features:

It has six strings and stays in tune. Simple as that.

Quality:

Minor cosmetic issues, but for $100 it's still a steal.

Value:

Easliy worth more than the price. I'm sure it would make a great beginner guitar, or a companion that you can take anywhere without worrying about the occasional nick or scratch.

Overall:

I bought this because I needed a cheap guitar that I could take anywhere without worrying about it, and this guitar fits the bill perfectly. Replaced the original strings with Elixir Nanowebs and it sounds fantastic. Even though there are minor cosmetic issues it's easliy worth twice the price you pay.

Bang for your buck in a beater guitar

| Review By: kevin fletcher | 1 month, 4 weeks ago

Features:

Tuners feel a bit cheap, but it stays in tune, so I have no complaints there. Replaced original strings with Elixir nano-web phospor bronze custom lights and couldn't be happier.

Quality:

Overall this is a nice little cheap guitar. There are a few minor craftsmanship issues when you look close, but from 10 feet away, nobody will ever catch them. A few small spots of glue on the fret board (came off with 0000 steel wool and a nice oiling during string change). Body binding has a small spot that wasn't sanded even with the rest. Pickguard isn't stuck down very well, will probably have to re-glue in the future. Minor stuff. Guitar is beautiful from 10 feet...

Value:

Been playing this thing for two weeks solid now, and everybody that hears it can't believe it's price. Sounds fantastic and the Vintage Sunburst is gorgeous. Played it at a big cookout this weekend, and think I've sold at least three of them for you...

Overall:

I bought this guitar to have a beater that I can take on camping trips and the beach. I've got some real nice (expensive) solid wood acoustics that I just can't stand the thought of taking out in the weather like that, so I started looking on craigslist for a cheap acoustic. Majority were around a this price, and so I saw this on Musician's Friend, read all the reviews, and figured, "What the heck..."
I honestly could not be happier. Was originally intending to change the strings right out of the box, but it sounded pretty good , so I left them for a week of solid playing, then changed to the Elixir Custom Lights. Now this cheap little baby just sings. Great tone, great harmonics, great sound. I haven't pulled any of my other guitars out of their cases for two weeks now. Admittedly, the solid woods sound a little better, but you're going to spend a lot more to get it.

If you want a great sounding, good looking guitar for next to nothing, go ahead and order this one now. You won't be disappointed.

Sounds good, looks good

| Review By: Roy Handy | 2 months, 3 weeks ago

Features:

Look.  I know next to nothing about guitars.  I bought this for my 14 year old child who is learning to play.  This guitar has six strings, a neck, a body, and some tuning knobs.  They all appear to work just fine.  When my child strums the strings while changing finger positions on the neck this guitar makes pleasant sounds.  (Sometimes the sounds are not so pleasant but I imagine this has more to do with my child than the guitar.)

Quality:

I know there are car reviewers who check the entire paint job on the vehicles they review to ensure that there are no runs in the paint.  Well, I have given this instrument a really good inspection and I can't see any obvious defects.  The wood is beautifully finished.  All the places where two things are joined together appear to be nice and tight.

Value:

$99.  Can't beat that for something that hopefully will give my child years and years of enjoyment, discovery, and a good dose of self-esteem to boot.

Overall:

I am happy that my child wants to learn to play an instrument.  I am happy and surprised that I was able to get a quality instrument for less than $100.  I'm sure I'll be paying much more for future upgrades, but I'm okay with that.  This Epiphone is the right instrument at the right price and at the right time.  I also bought my child a Snark SN-2 tuner to go with this.  It is a good tuner.
