Big-toned, super-playable, and remarkably priced.

The DR-212 is a true 12-string acoustic guitar with the big sound and fine engineering you expect from Epiphone. The DR-212 is not just a dreadnought with 6 extra strings. We designed the DR-212 to take the stress of extra strings and not just support the Spruce top but provide the proper bracing so what you hear is a balanced, cutting, and attention-getting tone. The 12-string dreadnought has often been thought of as the classic-go to guitar for blues, folk, rock, country, and everything in-between.

It's a great value for the money.

I got this about 2 weeks ago and it's been a real joy having a 12 string guitar to play. The action is acceptable (not high, but not too low). The spacing on the strings is a touch on the wide side, but I think it'll just take a little getting used to.

My only complaints are, firstly, about the strings. I've heard that these are shipped with D'addario standard PB light-gauge strings. Now, I've never been a huge fan of D'addario strings; their sound is average/acceptable, but every set I've ever had (and I've had quite a few sets over the last decade) turns my fingers and picks a nasty greenish-black color. My belief is that it has something to do with the composition and quality of the strings and the materials used to make them. I've used D'addario's on all of my electrics and acoustics with the same results; average sound and tone and green-black residue on my fingers. That can be fixed easily with a new set of different strings.

My second complaint is that after having the guitar for about a week it's developed what looks like and hopefully is ONLY a finish crack in the back near the bottom. I'm assuming it has something to do with the elevated, but proper humidity level I'm keeping it in. It's kept and played in a room that is constantly around 40-45% humidity, like all of the rest of my many stringed instruments.

I don't know whether it's even worth the hassle of shipping it back to Musician's friend to exchange it. I know that there is a 45 day return policy, but I've been playing it and it definitely looks like it's been played. If the crack gets worse my concern is that it's not just a finish crack and I'm curious about how good Gibson/Epiphone's lifetime warranty is.

With all that being said it's a pretty good guitar and has thoroughly scratched my 12 string itch.

You can't beat this guitar for the price. The nut was a little sharp on one end, but an emery board took care of that problem. It has stayed in tune for a long time. When I needed to retune due to the cooler temperature, one of the strings broke.

Comments about Epiphone DR-212 12-String Acoustic Guitar:

I love this guitar. The one I got was set up perfect right out of the box. The fit and finish is excellent, and the tone is very nice. I waited a few weeks to leave this review because some reviewers said the guitar did not stay in tune. I don't have this problem. The one I got stays in tune very well, especially for a 12-string. This guitar for the price Musician's Friend is offering it is a steal. It could easily be sold for hundreds more, and it would still be a great deal. You won't be sorry for purchasing this 12-string.

Comments about Epiphone DR-212 12-String Acoustic Guitar:

I thought I was going to get a budget guitar with budget craftsmanship, rough edges, etc. that I could sit around the house and jam on. This turned out to be a beautiful instrument. Once tuned up, it played beautifully. The set up & action were right on, no adjustments needed. Stays in tune for the most part. Strings are good but will enjoy an upgrade in the not too distant future. Maybe I just "lucked out", but the Gibson/Epiphone folks can be proud of this one...I was enthusiastically surprised!

I'd been scouring the websites looking for a used 12 string for a long time and got this one for really really cheap! Has a cut/gash in the side but not into the binding. I feel like I got away w/ murder! The quality out of the box and the sound is incredible. The strings are not great, but what would you expect. I'll be impressed even more once I restring it. Get this guitar if you don't want to spend alot on a 12 string! You will be blown away. I got lucky getting a used one, but it's worth a couple hundred, easy.

Comments about Epiphone DR-212 12-String Acoustic Guitar:

Hello or Mauri from Kiribati the heart of the Northen Pacific Islands.

I really love my first guitar here which I have just received from my brother in the USA. I have time to preprare it and play it with my singing group. I found that it sounds awesome and great. It is really does good and melodious sound to my hears. However, I also found that it really needs accompaniments during singing and or playing time. As a composer of songs and a medium artist, I may say that my new twelve string guitar here is so light in tune. It needs either another heavy string music instrument to pack up it melodious sound or has to be played with the male voices only.

I guess according to my studies on string music instruments, twelve string guitars are constructed lightly to suit the number of strings attached onto it and so as it size with weight.May be if this is the only reason, then the sutability may be grangy in here. Yet, the sounds has given me good feelings every day as it has to be played as such as I have mentioned above.

Till now, I do recommend it to whoever wants to play it but knowledge of music as it has to well packed.

            Thanks or Kam Rabwa.

Change strings immediately! While you have the bridge pins out remove the casting
flashing from them. A jewelers file and 600 grit sandpaper works great just be gentle
I also cleaned sides of the saddle up with 220 grit so it fit a little better in the bridge..

Worth the little time and effort this takes.
Every guitarist should have a 12 string and this one is a great value. You really
              can't go wrong.

Sounds like a 12 string 4 times it's price - really nice. It does need to have the bridge lowered and the neck adjusted to your type strings right out of the box, but after that this guitar really sings.... highly recommended!

Comments about Epiphone DR-212 12-String Acoustic Guitar:

This is a follow up to my Jan 2013 review. Its been over a year, new strings, lots of setup tweaks (truss rod, nut, bridge) but the initial problems this guitar had out of the box haven't improved with age. Absolutely will not stay in tune. Fret buzz on the low E string apparently cannot be corrected and still have any degree of playability at all. I probably should have returned it and chanced a different one. The positives are still there though -- huge rich sound and decent playability if you can work around the fret buzz and tuning issues. Like most Chinese axes, if you get a good one its great but it is likely you will need to go through a few before you get that great one. I've really noticed a huge variability in the density and integrity of the Asian woods, especially if they are quick grown and quick dried -- if you are lucky the aging process will work in your favor but it didn't happen with this one (unlike my three-year-old Chinese Epiphone Dove which has really become an awesome guitar with age). Having said all that, the 12 is still worth what I paid for it as a fun toy but it won't be doing any gigs or recording.

The sound is solid and feels really like of a 12 string guitar. But it is not easy to play especially because of big string-neck gap. It would loose tuning everyday. After a week or so of use, #4 string broke. I was using tuner to tune up. So, there is not any chance that I overstretched the string. I am returning it. Thank you MusiciansFriend for your cooperation with the return.
