Recieved this just the other day and, I was definately not dissappointed. This is a beautiful guitar with fine appointments especially for the price. I tweaked the truss rod just a bit and, I mean very little increasing the playability greatly. The strings that came on the instrument are OK but, I will definately put D'Addario EJ41's on it in the future. Other than that It's a GREAT guitar.

You can't beat this guitar for the price. The nut was a little sharp on one end, but an emery board took care of that problem. It has stayed in tune for a long time. When I needed to retune due to the cooler temperature, one of the strings broke.

Comments about Epiphone DR-212 12-String Acoustic Guitar:

Change strings immediately! While you have the bridge pins out remove the casting
flashing from them. A jewelers file and 600 grit sandpaper works great just be gentle
I also cleaned sides of the saddle up with 220 grit so it fit a little better in the bridge..

Worth the little time and effort this takes.
Every guitarist should have a 12 string and this one is a great value. You really
    can't go wrong.

Comments about Epiphone DR-212 12-String Acoustic Guitar:

Sounds like a 12 string 4 times it's price - really nice. It does need to have the bridge lowered and the neck adjusted to your type strings right out of the box, but after that this guitar really sings.... highly recommended!

Comments about Epiphone DR-212 12-String Acoustic Guitar:

This is a follow up to my Jan 2013 review. Its been over a year, new strings, lots of setup tweaks (truss rod, nut, bridge) but the initial problems this guitar had out of the box haven't improved with age. Absolutely will not stay in tune. Fret buzz on the low E string apparently cannot be corrected and still have any degree of playability at all. I probably should have returned it and chanced a different one. The positives are still there though -- huge rich sound and decent playability if you can work around the fret buzz and tuning issues. Like most Chinese axes, if you get a good one its great but it is likely you will need to go through a few before you get that great one. I've really noticed a huge variability in the density and integrity of the Asian woods, especially if they are quick grown and quick dried -- if you are lucky the aging process will work in your favor but it didn't happen with this one (unlike my three-year-old Chinese Epiphone Dove which has really become an awesome guitar with age). Having said all that, the 12 is still worth what I paid for it as a fun toy but it won't be doing any gigs or recording.

Comments about Epiphone DR-212 12-String Acoustic Guitar:

The sound is solid and feels really like of a 12 string guitar. But it is not easy to play especially because of big string-neck gap. It would loose tuning everyday. After a week or so of use, #4 string broke. I was using tuner to tune up. So, there is not any chance that I overstretched the string. I am returning it. Thank you MusiciansFriend for your cooperation with the return.

Comments about Epiphone DR-212 12-String Acoustic Guitar:

I just got this 12-String this morning. I started to repair it in 4 hours and WOw! I played it hours after hours. The tonality of double strings sounds so good to my ears, the woodwork of this Epiphone is great. its appearance is perfect compare to the price it worth. It seemed silly but I bought the Used one and tried to fix it myself. This one like many guitars I fixed. A success !
Thanks so much Musicians'Friend had given me a 2014 Guitar Calendar- Beautiful PRIVATE RESERVE guitars- I really enjoy both of them (the used 12-String and the Calendar). I wish you guys the Best !!- there're still a couple Used left there. Grab them now if you guys like and love guitars like I do. Have a great day and Salute. hadzimurad-USA

Comments about Epiphone DR-212 12-String Acoustic Guitar:

It's a great value for the money.

I got this about 2 weeks ago and it's been a real joy having a 12 string guitar to play. The action is acceptable (not high, but not too low). The spacing on the strings is a touch on the wide side, but I think it'll just take a little getting used to.

My only complaints are, firstly, about the strings. I've heard that these are shipped with D'addario standard PB light-gauge strings. Now, I've never been a huge fan of D'addario strings; their sound is average/acceptable, but every set I've ever had (and I've had quite a few sets over the last decade) turns my fingers and picks a nasty greenish-black color. My belief is that it has something to do with the composition and quality of the strings and the materials used to make them. I've used D'addario's on all of my electrics and acoustics with the same results; average sound and tone and green-black residue on my fingers. That can be fixed easily with a new set of different strings.

My second complaint is that after having the guitar for about a week it's developed what looks like and hopefully is ONLY a finish crack in the back near the bottom. I'm assuming it has something to do with the elevated, but proper humidity level I'm keeping it in. It's kept and played in a room that is constantly around 40-45% humidity, like all of the rest of my many stringed instruments.

I don't know whether it's even worth the hassle of shipping it back to Musician's friend to exchange it. I know that there is a 45 day return policy, but I've been playing it and it definitely looks like it's been played. If the crack gets worse my concern is that it's not just a finish crack and I'm curious about how good Gibson/Epiphone's lifetime warranty is.

With all that being said it's a pretty good guitar and has thoroughly scratched my 12 string itch.

Comments about Epiphone DR-212 12-String Acoustic Guitar:

I have been playing and teaching guitar for 35 years, and needed a new 12 string, so I gave the DR-212 a try. This is probably the best budget line 12 string you will find.

First, the brand. For those not aware, Epiphone is owned by Gibson. Most companies have a budget line (ie. Squire by Fender and Applause by Ovation). That said, as Gibson is tops in guitars, Epi's are tops in budget lines. I have owned several, and while they are no Gibson, in my opinion they are a whole class above other budget lines.

Next, the build. The guitar seems solidly built. Fit and finish are flawless on mine. On some budget lines, running a finger over seams you will feel the joint edges. Not on my Epi. Many 12's take constant tunning, but these tuners are solid and hold very well. Which is good as they are fairly close together, making tunning a bit tedious. Please note that "Select Spruce top" is their code word for Laminated. This is not a solid wood top guitar. Overall, it seems very strong, which is important for the extra stress 12's take. As for looks, you will not be disapointed.

Most important, sound. For a laminate topped budget 12 stinger, I feel the sound is really decent. Bear in mind that you will never get the depth as you will on a good quality solid top guitar. It is a bit thin compared to those. But overall, the sound is acceptable for most purposes. Intonation is spot on. I slapped a Seymore Ducan Woody HC on mine and play it through an acoustic amp. Doing this added lots of depth and volume. That and changing out the factory strings. If you are strumming, a thinner pick will generally get you a better sound on any 12 string.

Overall, a really good guitar for the price. There are times where you just need the sound of a 12, and this will get you there economically. While it will never compare with top end guitars, it is a 5 star guitar for budget lines.

Comments about Epiphone DR-212 12-String Acoustic Guitar:

This is my first 12 string and I LOVE it.

I was hesitant about buying it online, but when I opened up the box and checked it out and strummed some chords I was pleasantly surprised.

I originally was obsessed with wanting to get one of the Martin X-Series 12 strings, but when I went to my local music store, cash in hand, to buy the one I've been obsessing over for over a year and noticed that it was made out of laminate (like laminate counter tops) I moved on and just decided that I wanted to get a good value 12 string and use the rest of the money to buy other stuff (lots of other stuff).

This guitar is GREAT. Right out of the box. It has great tone and feel. It plays really easily and has pretty good action. I'm even surprised that the strings don't sound completely hideous, although they're in order to be replaced ASAP. The neck is straight, it was almost too straight, but when I tuned it up it got that perfect amount of bow.

The fit and finish are excellent. First and foremost I love that it's made out of real wood. I know it isn't made out of SOLID wood, but plywood looks exponentially better than the Formica they glue to the outside of Martins.

The natural finish is a touch more on the lighter side of natural.

And it sounds great, just like a 12 string should.

If you're doubting whether you should get this guitar the bottom line is: DON'T.
It's a great buy as most "value guitars" are, especially if you don't fear making minor adjustments or setup stuff like truss-rod, saddle, and nut adjustments yourself. It pays to know how to do that kind of stuff whether you're buying a cheap guitar or an expensive one.

Get this guitar if you're looking for a 12 string.

Wow! Can't believe the quality of this 12 string for such a low price! I usually wouldn't even consider buying such a cheap guitar, but after reading the positive reviews, I thought I'd give this Epiphone a try. I am so glad that I did! After sanding down the nut and saddle(and changing strings), the action and playability rivals my Martin! The finish and appointments do NOT look cheap. I can't believe that MF can afford to sell a guitar of this quality at this price! The sound is very rich and full.......for the price!
