gets a 10 from me and I am hard to please! Plays great right out of the case, beautiful sound, looks are very appealing, (I love the color blends) neck straight, action low which I like, makes this guitar easy to play. The strings could be better but they work, the Epi case fits perfect, the pickup not bad I may fool around with this later on and string bending is no issue with this guitar at all, covers acoustic and electric all in one nice package, I would buy another one without any hesitation.
I just received my Lennon Epiphone ej 160 e and a hardshell case, also Epiphone, and I have read all the previous comments. Here are mine; the guitar was shipped in the case not separate and right out of the case this guitar is beautiful. I tuned it in with no trouble, the action is great (any lower and it would buzz for sure) hard strumming, no problem. There was mention the width of the neck could be troublesome, no issues at all and I don't have large hands, don't be afraid to buy this guitar for that reason. The tuners did not buzz and I hit this thing hard unplugged and plugged in. It plays easily. I have been playing for 54 years (started when I was 5 years old) and have many guitars in my collection, I love this guitar. I have Taylor's, Breedlove's, music man, Gibson's, other Epiphones, Taks and fenders, this plays as good if not better then a few of the more very expensive guitars. I plugged in to a peavey TNT bass amp as I also play fretless base and you want that buzz like Lennon had, no problem! It sounds great. It doesn't sound like the original with the strings that it comes with but don't be discouraged, I put phosphor bronze coated lights on and it sounds wonderful, Better then my expensive Taylor unplugged, you will need electric/acoustics for the real sound for sure, but I don't really care about that it's that close! I was skeptical about this guitar and knew I could sell it for what I paid but this guitar will stay with me until my will comes into play! Buy this guitar, you will not be disappointed I can't wait to head out to the next gig with this, it's impressive and sounds great. There are no issues with this instrument , but again it's brand new and time will tell, but for now I got a sweetheart a beautiful one at that and at a very nice price! Enjoy, and if you buy one, you will not be dissapointed.

the more i play it the better i like it. i have been playing for 40 plus years and have owned everything under the sun- from handbuilt one off pieces, to guilds, gibsons you name it. of all them this is my favorite. its crazy, i paid like this price for it and would not, could not replace it with a martin, gibson or other- its just that good. i have modified it with the following upgrades- grover tuners (same style), bone nut and saddle, hardwood bridge pins and a k and k pickup. i tune it down a half step (bluegrass guage 80/20 bronze 56-12 strings) and the resonate, woody, rich sound gives me goosbumps everytime i pick it up. i run it thru a 80's peavy kb300 w a 15" speaker and a fishman pre-amp/eq. the solid top has opened up for sure as i play very hard and alot- especially live- i bang the you know what out of it and it holds up perfectly- ZERO issues- neck straight and true, the guitar looks like new. btw the stock pickup is very cool but very limited sound. more like a hollow body electric guitar- not very acoustic, but cool for some things.
i love the long (25.5 " scale) and the neck shape. the ONLY tning i would change is a 1.75" nut width instead of 1.11/16" width. i have huge hands and have had to work to develop a techinique that allows clear, ringing tones when finger picking. for that reason i give it a 9 instead of a 10.
i am a performing songwriter and play venues from 20-2000 and this guitar always delivers. people ask me where i get the amazing tone- very impressive rock and roll, blues and swing/bop guitar. not as delicate and refined and say a taylor- but....BEEFY...hearty, woody, strong...believable sound.

I'm always looking for something unique and a little different, and this one caught my eye a few years ago. The acoustic tone is agreeably warm. As to reproducing the original sound on Beatles recordings, I get the best result using my Fender Champion 600 amp. Recordings in the early 1960s were engineered to be broadcast mostly on small transistor radios, so a completely 'authentic' sound will be elusive, and a matter of opinion. It's about time to have my guitar technician adjust the action down a little, but other than that I have no complaints. The John Lennon signature is quite attractive. He played Epiphone guitars, and if they were good enough for him, they're good enough for me!

Beautiful style, acoustic/electric without worrying about batteries, clean sound, lightweight... I love it! I highly recommend it for anyone who has been playing for a little while... not worth the money for a first guitar. But if you've been playing for some time I highly suggest this guitar.
A magnetic pick-up is built in stock, allowing the guitar to be played without worrying about a 9V battery. But that also means that there is no equalizer. 2 knobs (volume and tone).

There is only one thing I was worried about when I started playing it: The tuning machines rattled... LOUD. Now, like I said, I bought it used. So this could be a problem that only I personally have encountered, but maybe not. I took it into a shop and the guy said "with this style of machines, the rattling can't really be 'fixed' unless you replace them." Now tuning machines aren't THAT expensive so it wasn't a HUGE deal. I just figured I'd mention it in case someone else had the same problem. Hopefully it was just mine, because I don't want that to sway anyone away from the guitar... because it's gorgeous.

Now, if you get this guitar, make sure you buy the right type of strings. Since it's an acoustic/electric and it has a magnetic pickup, you need to put on 80/20 strings. Those types of strings are 20% nickel so that the pickup... well... can pick up the sound better. If you don't, you won't be able to tell when you're playing it unplugged. But as soon as you plug it in, any experienced guitarist will notice a difference. It's not like it won't work or anything. It'll just highly improve the quality if your sound.
Also, be careful with the knobs. If you turn them to hard/far, the wires inside may come off and you will not get ANY sound when you plug in... not even a hum or crack. So just be careful with the knobs.
The sound is crisp and clean. Holds tune VERY well. Beautiful looking guitar. Smooth frets.
I bought mine used. I had to fix a couple of little things. So for me, I'd say I got pretty lucky. I don't regret spending that much at all.

I just picked this guitar up, and it's a beauty. I went there to try the Ibanez AEL20 series and this instrument caught my eye immediately upon entering the room. I picked it up and didn't put it down for about an hour. I compared it to several other famous models in the store, and after much internal debate, selected this awesome guitar. Now that I have it, I am very happy with my selection. It just plays so beautifully, and it looks fantastic. I love the Beatles, and this guitar can be seen in half their performances, whether it be John or George playing it. If it needs new tuners or a bridge down the road, I will have no qualms about it, I will play this forever!

Modeled after the Gibson j160e, this model I must say plays a lot better and sounds a lot better than the Gibson. Unlike the Gibson it has a solid sitka spruce top, as opposed to a plywood top or laminate. I own both models and have done my research on the two,and the Only difference I found is that the Gibson is made in America and the Epiphone is made over seas. I am very happy with this guitar I play it all the time, and I am glad that Epiphone has made a more affordable version of the Gibson j160e. P.S. "It improves with time, like a fine wine really".

I asked for/got the guitar for Christmas. I immediately noticed a buzz at 12th fret and above. The guitar was unplayable where the neck met the body around the 12th fret (Dear Prudence?). I recently spent $100 (good deal) to have a new saddle put on and a set up. I like the thought of the guitar (John Lennon) enough to spend some money fixing it. Don't buy this guitar unless you are willing to spend some more money for a set up.

I just bought the Epi John Lennon EJ-160E and am very happy with this guitar. The size of the guitar is absolutely perfect for me. The feel of the neck, the placement of the control knobs, everything is just right. If I had one criticism it would be that the strings that come with it aren't terrific and give the guitar a bit of tinny sound. But as always, strings are the easiest thing to change on a guitar. I bought this guitar to play it, not to save as a collector's piece or to sit and admire it. However, that said, it's a beautiful guitar and I can't help but admire the gorgeous wood finish. And being a collector's piece doesn't hurt down the road either. I can't speak for everyone's playing style or taste, but for me this is almost a perfect guitar. All I'm saying, is just give this guitar a chance (sorry JL, I couldn't resist).
